First Round: Kenny Vaccaro, SS, Texas 6010 215
A first in a 1st rd. safety, like Elam too but expect him going early 20's. Vaccaro looks natural for position & feel he transitions well to next level. Also gives Texans some flexablity to resign McCain or Quin maybe losing both?
Second Round: Tajh Boyd, Jr., QB, Clemson, 6010 225
In the mold of Russel Wilson. Has competitive fire, good feet in the pocket always looking down field as he avoids pressure. Strong, accurate arm. This is for all you Schaub haters who is 31 & I agree to the point we cannot rest easy without a more viable backup plan in place. You guys asked for it so here he is my top QB target for the Texans.
Third Round: DeAndre Hopkins, WR Clemson, 6010 200
If Texans land Boyd, look for them to move up to get his #1 targert Hopkins. I will try to appease my fellow draft cronies & subscribe to the kool aid, pray they can use Tate to improve position to address this all important receiver need. Could be just my impression but kid seems to have a little Julio Jones to him?
Third Round: Tank Carradine, DE/OLB, Florida State, 6040 265
Terrific value to shore up pass rushing. Tank was very productive his senior season until tearing his acl in his right knee. Can't have enough pass rushers especially if Barwin goes elsewhere via free agency. This Florida State team is loaded with NFL talent both lines.
Fourth Round: Daniel McCullers, NT, Tennessee, 6060 360
Sorry to once again dissapoint you guys with smaller one gap nose prospect but there can just be no substitute for size if you want your nose over the Center nose in the ) gap so he can control both A gaps not just one. I'm not worried about this whole penetration thing either, his job would be to tie up two blockers, compress the pocket, control the middle & take away passing lanes over the top. Raw, will need seasoning but what better situation than working with Wade Phillips.
Fifth Round: Reid Fragel, OT, Ohio State, 6080 300
Converted TE need I say anymore? Multiplicity is key word to describe this talent who could start by becoming that blocking TE Texans lack. As he develops he could also spell Newton plus there for depth purposes. Outside the box, upside fits system, not just some big lumbering body to stick out on the edge & struggle in pass pro.
Fifth Round: Cierre Wood, RB/Ret, Notre Dame, 6000 215
Has good frame to add weight, explosive with cut-back ability can also back-up Martin in kick return duties. Has good hands & willing blocker. I don't expect him or Riddick to have breakout performances against Alabama next Monday night so draft stock should still offer excellent mid round value. Since using Tate to trade up in 2nd rd. to add Clemson player(s) Cierre Wood or Theo would nice roster additions to bring into camp to complement Foster.
Sixth Round: Ivory Wade, C/OG, Baylor, 6030 305
Following in the footsteps of Blake & JD Walton Ivory switched to Center position & improved each week along with Bears who became a formidable opponent capable of beating anyone in the nation by seasons end. Most of his experience was starting @ RT but as a true freshman started LG. He is a perfect fit for ZBS. Combination of aggressive nature & physical ability most likely best fit would be to eventually replace another Wade, in Smith.
Seventh Round: Ryan Allen, P, Louisiana Tech, 6020 215
Pair him with Bullock & kicking game could be set for Texan franchise next ten + years. Next best punter will go probably fifth round because he can pull double duty as place kicker, Quinn Sharpe, Oklahoma State. Just can't see Texans going this route after taking Randy last year in the 5th rd. a 7th on a punter to compete with aging Jones I can see.
Seventh Round: Nigel Malone, CB, Kansas State, 5-10 180
Plays tomorrow against Oregon, so here is your heads up to check him out. Late round secondary prospect with no back-down against big receivers similar to Roc Carmichael who should move up the depth chart to replace McCain or Ball. Pretty deep CB class this year otherwise would be drafted much earlier than this.
