Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts. Noon. 12/30. **Official GameDay Thread**

I like how it's wrong for the defense to have given up when all they have ever done is cover for Gary's inabilities for the past two years.

When Wade was hired, I said two things: (1) The only thing that can go wrong is if Wade' defense is so dominant that it permits Kubiak to rely on it too much, and (2) If that happens, it will cause a meltdown across the whole team.

You guys can challenge me if you want. I said that in the threads back in early 2011 when the defense was shaping up and looking dominant.

This is now a team divided. One group, and I believe rightfully so, feels it's being screwed over by an inferiorly coached offense. Despite that, the defense continued to try.

But when your HC decides to try a 53-yd. FG rather than punt and pin the Colts deep...you have to go "OK, WTH? Seriously? LOL. OMG. OK, ok, ok....fine."

The only worse thing that could happen is for Wade to become HC. He's softer as a HC than Gary is.

Defense was playing really well up until that long ridiculous TD. But then just laid down and I think they realized there's no way that this offense was going to lead a comeback 2 scores down. This offense is just not built that way to play from behind a lot. Bottom line is and this is something I've said many times before that unless Kubiak is fired this is what this is all that the Texans are capable of doing. I appreciate for turning us around after the Capers era and making us a good team, but he's not the guy to lead us to the Super Bowl.

Exactly. It's not all on Kubiak.

3rd and 23 and you give that up? Really? A TD? How does that happen? That's on players and coaches and the defense played undisciplined today jumping offsides as much as they could.

Well to be fair, they probably never practice against anything but a draw play or short pass in that situation. :D

Seems we need to use the pass to set up Foster. When we get into more of an attack mode with he passing game, then it opens up he running game

The Cardinals backed into the playoffs at 9-7 and were thought to be at the time the worst playoff team ever. They were a play short of a Super Bowl.

They did have a great QB though....

And you keep thinking that this teams issues are limited to the qb...

whatever dude, keep avoiding the real issue.. every team has liabilities somewhere. weve seen good/great quarterbacks make average teams better. the texans arent going anywhere until schaub is gone and the texans have a game changing qb.. schaub is mediocrity, therefore the texans will be stiuck in mediocrity.. im tired of "he knows the system" being the only redeeming quality about schaub..

I have never been discouraged by this team before now. Any one think they have a shot at beating the Bengals next week?

Just nothing but disgust and loathing in my heart for this heartless bunch of bums. Sorry is the only word I can think of that accurately describes them and their lousy head coach. Anyone who thinks Gary Kubiak is a good HC at this point or thinks that his players always having his back means anything is deluded. Sure they love him, he's their buddy. Clearly though none of them feel the need to hold themselves accountable to him or each other. I've been watching this pretend HC build his team for 7 seasons and from nearly the very start I knew deep down that all this construction was taking place on a bad foundation. Bad play calling, bad clock management, an inability to get the team up for important games, an irrational loyalty to underperforming players and coaches, and his constant refusal to go out and hire a DC that knew what he was doing told me that this guy wasnt HC material and nothing has changed. Proud of 12-4? Understand that it would be just another 8-8 or 9-7 if McNair hadn't forced Wade on Kubiak last year. They're as messed up as they ever were and won't get any better without a coaching change (Which naturally will lead to a QB change). We spend 6 years rebuilding from 2-14, the Colts do it in 1. Do the math and draw your own conclusions about the quality of our coaching staff and players.

If someone can help me understand the cap rules correctly, cutting Matt would be a 14 million cap hit for next year? 17.5M bonus, minus this year's 3.5? Or does this contract kick in next year? Just trying to gauge the difficult in making a QB change.

Edit: should add that I'm not quite ready to really kick and scream for that kind of move, just curious more than anything.

only one explanation why a team with this much suck can have a 12-win season.

this game is rigged!

But they're not mediocore, they're 12-4...:kitten:

& when we get that talent capable of becoming great but we can't protect him what will u say then? I dont deny that schaub is an issue back there at times, but to ignore this teams o-line & playcalling issues is just flat out irresponsible analysis...

Yes every team has holes, but no team that has serious superbowl aspirations has o-line issues this bad...besides we've got more than an issue....we have ISSUES all over this team

Kubiak needs more competent counsel on the sidelines as well. He is overwhelmed at times. Norv Turner if not picked up as a HC somewhere would be a nice fit. Add more wrinkles to a stale offensive gameplan.

No matter what the majority feel should happen with the firings of the coach and QB, it wll not happen. this city is stuck with this team as assembled for the foreseeable future.

I'm telling you guys they mishandled the cap.

They had to. No way the Eagles can fit all of those big names on their team and EVEN the Jets were ready to pick up Aso and try to maneuver around the cap to do so....

Yet the Texans are the team cutting pro-bowl players like Winston and his false starts and Demeco. Say what you will about those guys but they were leaders. Winston was a great run blocker and it showed and 'Meco showed up big time in the playoffs last year and in big games.

Now we will be looking to replace guys we already had.

Well, at least you were around the past few years to berate anybody and bad mouth them for trying to show you what you just now found out (on your own) today.

I mean, hey...that makes it ALL GOOD, JB.

We're going the beat the Bengals, but then we have to play N.E. on the road and then play Denver in Denver IF we were to somehow lock the Patriots into a deep freezer on the day we play them.

You get one more game to feel like your old self again, JB. Then you'll be treated to a colossal ass-kicking at the hands of Brady & Co. to jog your memory of this conversation.

By the way; Happy New Year.

We're screwed because we gave Schaub a new deal after GAME ONE of this season.

That was a huge, huge, HUGE mistake. They should have made him play out the whole year. THAT was the tightening of the noose. Before that, we had a shot at slipping out of the noose. NOW? No way.

We have officially saddled ourselves with Schaub and Kubiak for at least the next two seasons...maybe even a 3rd year too. If not 4!

And it's not even the quality of all of our players. If we seriously had a better coach (Cowher) and a better QB (Manning, Wilson, whoever), the Texans would be in much better shape. The defense has players. The offense has players. The team just doesn't have a competent QB or HC. That's what is holding them back. Some right side OL help wouldn't hurt either, but the biggest issues are the two "leaders" of the team.

No amount of questioning each other's manhood will help this team now. That crowd at Reliant is going to boo and boo if they play like they have the past five weeks again next week.

2 of the sacks on Schaub happened before he even got to to the top of his 5 step drop....let me say it again a different way....Schaub can't even finish dropping back before someone has their hands on him....and you say that all we need is " some" o-line help? That right side is atrocious in every aspect of our offense.

This is about sucking in just the right draft. Colts tanked the year Luck and RGIII were in the draft. Texans sucked the most when there was no Cam Newton, Luck, or RGIII. Didn't require genius to rebuild with last years #1 pick.

I think if either the HC or QB were better the team would be in better shape. Doesn't have to be both.

This team might, MIGHT, win their wild card game with the Bengals, but this team is not getting past Denver or New England on the road.

I'm already expecting the worse. And another off season of wondering why. Oh well. I'm happy some of the individual players will get recognition. We can watch them in the Pro Bowl this year since they'll be avaliable.

Matt schaub leading this team in the playoffs will go down faster than a chubby intern in the White House. There is no fight in this offense and the D is playing average at best. I think we'll win the first playoff game then it'll be lights out.

You've got more confidence than most, more than I have, certainly. We're not beating the Bengals.

Gonna be disgusting if we beat Cincinnati and if/when we lose to New England. As if Boston sports fans werent insufferable enough.

I used to have some pity on the long-suffering Boston fan before the turn of the millennium.

Then they suddenly started winning championships -- in all major team sports -- and now, I even want New York teams to beat them.

Colts had first pick in years for Elway, P Manning, and now Luck. This is a franchise that knows when to tank! Spurs are jealous!

I hated Boston sports even before they were successful. Having a brother who's a Yankees fan and another who's a Dolphins fan help in that regard.

Woke up oddly optimistic this morning after a week of deep rooted pessimism.

Going to be watching the game at home with my stepson who is in with the family for the holidays...... from Indianapolis. My wife and his are going to take the grand kids to the mall and out running errands while we watch the game.

I think the Texans are going to take care of us all today.

Woke up with this post and then got my weekly dose of Texans football.

Should have known better.

well one of those sacks where schaub couldnt finish his drop came from the left side.. tbh, the o-line will be fine, ben jones has hit a wall, he will improve, he has the biggest upside of the rookie linemen.. they might have to address LG and RT eventually. we still have brooks laying in the weeds who might be able to play next to duane once wade expires... we dont need 5 all-pros on the o-line.. let them continue to fill holes on the line with mid-rounders.

Actually, it was Brooks who gave up the sack up the middle. Looked like he was expecting some help on his left. Myers was helping Wade. I wouldn't say that Wade needed help, or that Myers screwed the pooch, but since Myers usually makes those calls, I'm blaming the rookie. It's not that he got over powered or "beat" he wasn't even looking at the guy. He expected someone else to be there & no one was.

Arian came running straight up the middle, like a check down, but he didn't even get in the dude's way.

Brown got beat by Freeney on the left side. Again, I don't think it was a talent issue, but he was expecting Freeney to do one thing & he did another.

I don't remember the other sack.

are you talking about the geathers sack..? brooks wasnt even on the field.. geathers shot the gap between smith and myers... both brown and smith shifted to the left of who they were lined up on, leaving brown not really blocking anybody and a free gap between smith and myers. geathers was untouched and arian ran right by him. whose at fault here? should schaub have known that brown and smith would block this way and recognize that geathers would be free to shoot the gap. should he have changed the protection to get arian to pick up that gap..?
