Shelley Smith waived?
 
If the Texans cut Shelly Smith, then they currently have 52 players on the roster and have room to pick up one more. Probably an Offensive Tackle to replace Butler.

Ya I think we bring up a OT off waivers. Maybe leave the spot open or call up Pleasant.
 
Keenum and Grimes were the two most important to me. I'm glad we are still holding on to them. Grimes looked pretty damn good against the other guys 2s and 3s. Good enough to make me think he had a MUCH better chance of getting snatched away from us before Keenum.

Now I guess we wait and see where they pick up an OL person for that 53rd roster spot.

Yep, typical hotheaded response from an immature guy who doesn't know his place. Not only should the Texans be concerned about that sort of attitude, but so should other teams that are interested.
 
I wonder who is going to get the last spot. We should be finding out soon, yeah?

Regardless, Hunter is a bit of a surprise. I never really noticed the guy during the games.

How was that hotheaded? Sounds like a guy who believes in himself and will not quit. Bryant would've made the team in most years. The Texans are just too deep at the position, right now.

And a player can end up on a team's practice squad a third time, but only as long as that team maintains 53-players on their active/inactive roster. If the team drops below 53-players, that player must automatically be placed onto the main roster.
 
Anyone else think that DJ Bryant didn't make the practice squad due to his attitude. Sounds like some sour grapes were on the menu for Mr. Bryant.

I have a sneaky feeling that with a better tude, the dude is on the PS. :kitten:

Been seeing that salary reported as absolute. It's not. Teams often pay more to entice a player to play for them. But it counts on cap.

$5,700/wk or $96,900/yr salary for practice squad players (if on PS for 17 wks) is the "minimum" salary for ps players. Teams can pay more

I think people are misjudging him. He just believes in himself and what he said was not tacky.

Thanks, I had no clue either, LOL. It may not be attitude, it could be that he was not supposed to be rushing the qb on some of his sacks, or like someone said just numbers. That's something we will never know but he did look good to me.

Kubiak feels that his mission in life is tutoring young quarterbacks.

Keenum will get this year and next training camp to show something.

If not, next project up.

I wouldn't call Keenum a bum. Bums don't try, see: Ryan Leaf. But I do not think Kubiak will be successful with this particular project. The UH system just doesn't produce good NFL quarterbacks.

I think the Cardinals just discovered this.

I'm surprised Nick Mondek wasn't wasn't signed to the PS, especially considering what happened to Butler. Anyone know if he was snatched up by another team? Or did he plain out suck in preseason?

Apparently the Texans missfired so badly with this 6th round Draft pick that he wasn't even good enough to hang around for the final preseason game to get on the field with the reserves to the reserves ?

Source says Jets put in conditional claims on T Steven Baker, LB DJ Bryant, RB Jonathan grimes, OL Hayworth Hicks + WR Jermaine Kearse … That means Jets had some interest in those guys but they were crossed off their list when higher priority claims filled.

Ouch. Losing both Grimes and Bryant... damn.

EDIT- Wait a second, how? We already announced Grimes to our PS. Doesnt that mean he already cleared waivers?

EDIT 2- Read the article. It sounds like the Jets put in for the 2, but did not get them because they claimed some other players. Grimes remains on our PS, if I understand correctly.
