Why No Chatter on These 2 WR's??

texasam82

Practice Squad
Tommy Streeter and Greg Childs.

Both of these guys are big, fast and can be had in the middle rounds of the draft. Wouldn't we say that these guys have upside that is at least close to Hill? I realize Childs was hurt, but he did great at his pro day. Streeter is very raw, but he can learn from fellow Cane AJ. We could still use our first 3-4 picks on DL/OLB/OL and then stack up some offensive weapons later.

Thoughts??

I've mocked Streeter to us a bunch of times. I think there has been plenty of talk on both those guys around here...

Now a guy that I think maybe doesn't get enough talk in regards to us drafting him is Alshon Jeffrey. That guy is a beast and if he goes in the second round it will be a huge steal for whoever drafts him IMO.

Everybody and their grandmother has Childs mocked on their boards. I'd rather have Broyles personally.

All these guys have been talked about.
Streeter has potential.
Childs was overlooked by some after his injury (but now seems to be finally healthy).
Jeffrey, I've said since his Fr year that it looks like he will play in the NFL.
Broyles is not back at full speed yet, I don't think.

The list of draftable receivers is very long this year.
There's a case to be made for many of them as to whether they have potential to be a decent-good #1 or a solid #2 receiver (that will replace Walter and Jacoby Jones).

McNutt from Iowa is another good one, but he's not very fast.
I've seen him reel in several difficult pass; he has great hands, adjust and fight for the bal very well.

So on and so on.
I have a good feeling that whoever the Texans draft will eventually become a good conitributor on offense.

I guess I had not noticed either Streeter or Childs mentioned with anywhere near the frequency of Sanu/Hill/Randle/Quick/etc. I feel like they have just as much talent as this group but could be had 2-3 rounds later in the draft. Allowing us to focus on building the trenches for the first few rounds.

Usually, skill positions are drafted higher unless someone like DeCastro was to fall. I'd take Kendall Wright over Broyles coming off injury even though a pre-injury Broyles was getting more public acclaim at that time. Now personally, I'd take Streeter in 4th over Hill #26 so it just depends on players. Thinking of another comparison would be Phillip Blake @4a rather than Konz first round.

What is your evaluation of our OLB need? I see you drafted one 2nd round.

I think that we certainly "need" one more high quality starting caliber player at OLB, especially in this defense. I love Barwin and Reed, and if last year taught us anything it's how much better this D can perform (ie. secondary) when there is constant pressure on the QB. I think Bruce Irvin is quite possibly the most talented pass rusher of this entire draft and even though he has "some" character issues in the past he seems to be moving himself in the right direction. And don't get me wrong, I love Braman as much as the next guy, but I'm not 100% sold on him yet.

Imagine having a fresh rotation of Barwin/Reed/Irvin getting after the QB on every single play from the OLB spot. Add D.Wolfe into the mix with JJ and Smith at DE with our 3rd round pick and I think it'd be sick...

And of course this also gives us some depth in the event of an injury and would also be beneficial if somehow we lose Barwin to free agency.

Streeter un-impressed me at the combine. Not on my wish list.

I wish. DeCastro might be my first OL off the board.
This was worst combine I ever watched. Players looked unorganized and often played out of position & when I say that I mean not in an effort to exhibit a OT to play OG or OG to play center but more as if, "oh we need a center, Zeitler want to play there?"

While combine does play a part in my evals only to confirm what I've seen or read about a guy. Same with senior bowl.

Agreed but I could say same about AJ/Fleener/Quick/Broyles/Walter/OD

Oh don't get me wrong... Fleener is the one "receiving threat" that I wouldn't be upset taking in the 1st. I am an offensive guy by nature, and was on the WR in the 1st bandwagon until I could convince myself otherwise.

Fleener
Irvin
Wolfe
Broyles
Childs
OG

I wouldn't be upset if the first 5 rounds went that way either if you wanted 3 new receiving toys. I'm not sure what it is about Quick that I'm just not sold on...

AJ/Fleener/Childs/Broyles/OD/Walter (with some Jean/Maehl sprinkled in??)

On the other side:

Wolfe/Watt/Smith/Cody/Mitchell

Irvin/Reed/Barwin/Braman/Cush/Sharpton/James/Dobbins

Secondary - I don't think it needs any new blood this year, we should be pretty damn good with what we have as long as the front 7 do their job.

That would be bad ass

I agree with your eval. Broyles in our slot would be great!

If he wasnt injured , he would probably have gone in the first round ....

I'd like to take a shot at him with the later 4th rounder if he is still there and get one of the bigger guy's somewhere between now and the early #4.

Health is the only question with Broyles , he just produces.

As per Brandon Harris' twitter:
@HarrisNOFLYZONE: I can c us drafting a cane WR today #texans

Tommy streeter in the 2nd or 3rd...
Nfl.com has us taking him with our 2nd round pick
