Colt McCoy back as Browns' starting quarterback

So, two seasons of McCoy, what do you think?

He has starter intangibles in this league (heart, drive, and leadership) and is a gamer...
Sadly though, he wasn't blessed by the lord above with starter talent (arm strength mainly and size) He plays in possibly the worst region of the country to succeed with a weak arm..
I'll always have respect for him though, because he's already been a success. All he was supposed to do was be Jevon Snead's cup holder. Instead he came out of nowhere and was one of the most successful D1 signal callers in NCAA history. Who knows, maybe things will click and they'll find a way for him to succeed in that system and he'll overcome his shortcomings. I don't bank on it, but would like to see it.. It's a shame when there's people like McCoy who put everything into their game, but just lack the necessary skill set... and then you see people like Carr and Russell who have physical talent oozing out their eyeballs, yet they just don't care enough to capitalize on it. It's a damn shame.

He just doesnt havet he tools around him. Give the guy a couple quality recievers and better protection , then we can re-visit the original question.
Funny fact , my grandmother was born in Tuscola Tx where Colt is from.

I think Jamarcus Russell probably played the biggest role of anyone in the new rookie wage scale. Hopefully that will put an end to wasters who get rich without ever working for it.
The Browns have managed to ruin far more naturally talented QB's than Colt McCoy so he's doing well so far.
I agree with both of you. I think it's clear as day. Why then, do so many people want to force a new QB in Cleveland?
We can blame Jamarcus.... or we can blame his agent & the Raiders.
Imagine if they put together a contract like the one Mario signed. No bonus & he had to work to get paid. 3 years later, Jamarcus would have been motivated to reach for his potential, or out of the league at low cost to the Raiders.
If he didn't want to play, didn't want to sign that kind of contract, he sits out for year. I understand the Raiders were desperate, but looking better, they wouldn't have been any worse off.

I have been drafting for the Browns in our TT mock with the idea that he would be the starter. Once RG3 was off the board their options dwindle. I certainly expect the browns to take a guy like Tannehill, Foles, Weedon or Osweiler in the draft to compete for the number one QB spot. I think Colt can beat out those guys this year though. In any case, getting a WR like Blackmon, a RT and a RB or two will help him immensely. Luckily they have the picks to do it this year. I'll be watching their draft closely.
None of those guy's are "franchise QB's and honestly I wouldnt take a single one of them based upon value until the 3rd round or later .... after those guys are off the board , there isnt a real drop off in talent to the guy's who would be drafted in that next group in the 3rd and beyond.
I really want to see McCoy get some pieces to work with on offense .... a solid reciever , a tackle and a stud RB around him and you can guage him better .... as it is , he's running for his life or forcing balls to recievers who cant get open. With options like that , he may as well throw it and duck.

I don't see any of them as having less franchise QB potential than McCoy, in face I think they all have more potential than Colt. Colt is simply limited by his tangibles, and he doesn't have the accuracy and arm strength to overcome those limitations like Drew Brees does. I would prefer to have a guy like Tannehill, Weedon or Cousins behind him competing for the job. Since they need a starter this year, I'd go with Weeden in the 3rd as I did in the TT mock. Great value, good player, and mature enough to step in sooner. He doesn't have to start, but I wouldn't just hand the reins to McCoy by default. Gotta get some more QB talent in Cleveland. There are plenty of other picks to address needs elsewhere. I expect the Browns to take Blackmon at #4 and an OT at #22 (preferably Martin, but probably Adams).
After Luck and RG3, I just do not see that QB worthy of #4. Tannehill, Weedon, Cousins, Foles, and Osweiler may all someday evolve into starters but do not seem to be as of yet ready to be the starter nor do any of these guys seem to have that can't miss feel to them.
If I had to choose one to groom, I think I'd take Osweiler. He has the size and thickness and should be there at the top of the 2nd round. Given a year or so behind Colt, he may work into a starting role and be a better value than the others.
A draft with Osweiler could be Blackmon #4, David Wilson RB Virginia Tech #22, Osweiler #37. Sprinkle in some O-line help in later rounds and at least the Browns may have a fighting chance to pull out a few games.
Another idea I like is for the Browns to somehow pry Ryan Mallett from the Pats. I know its not very likely, but maybe the Pats would want to trade up from one of their first round picks to #22 and use Mallett as bait. Mallett seems to be buried as 3rd string on the Pats and could probably beat out Colt. How sad is that?

I completely agree, and I didn't actually say I blamed Jamarcus personally, but that I think it was probably that whole situation that acted as the big wake-up call to the NFL that the freedom they were giving rookies to dictate their terms to teams without ever having made any effort in the league was a huge problem.
At that time, even the guys who came in and did work hard for it were getting far too much from the get-go.
Of course you are still left with the problem of the FA vet who gets in a similar situation where they've made their money and don't need to work for it anymore, but at least you aren't handing that contract out to someone who's never done anything.
I'd like to see the Browns give McCoy a bit of slack as the starter for a couple of years now, rather than drafting someone to breath down his neck. They've had enough QB controversy over the years and they'd be better concentrating on giving him the tools and letting him prove himself.
Its not as if they're going to be great overnight anyway, and McCoy has a chance of developing into a solid top 16 type QB over time.

By "so many people" are you referring to the President of the Cleveland Browns, Mike Holmgren? Holmgren is the one on record saying that he tried to trade up for Robert Griffin. Holmgren is the guy who drafted McCoy and watched him struggle for the past 2 seasons. It's "clear as day" Holmgren doesn't believe McCoy can get it done at the professional level.
I don't think it's even a question of whether Cleveland will go for a QB in this draft. When is what's up for debate. Tannehill @ #4 or maybe Weeden @# 22? I would go with Tannehill, who is as talented as any QB taken in the 2011 1st round that didn't go by the name of Cam. Tannehill would be an excellent prospect for the Texans offense. Hearing that the Vikings aren't sold on Kalil and are looking to trade down, it's not out of the question that the Dolphins move up to #3 to take Tannehill.
I dont disagree that having a guy behind him to push him or flat out take the job is ideal .... I jsut dont see any of them having value prior to round 3.
I'd do the same thing , take Weeden should he still be around when they pick in the 3rd. Those others will cost a 1st or 2nd .... no value in taking a QB who's going to be no more than a career backup that high .... and thats what I think of the entire QB class after the first two.
