Game plan to put a spy on Newton?

Do yall think with Newton's abitlity to run their will be a spy assigned to him? If so do you think it will be cush or demeco?

id let Demeco be the spy..Cushings been playing hurt for the past couple of weeks and it has showed in his tackling ability..and Newton has shown to be very hard to tackle..

Not a bad idea. Personally, I'd prefer Demeco spying on him and letting Cush continue to attack the LOS.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had some 3 safety sets with Quin, Nolan and Manning allowing for one of them to spy as well.

I think if they spy they'll mix it up. I could see any of the lb's spying as well as Quinn or manning depending on the situation.

If we play zone you don't really need a spy though because everyone is looking at the qb.

I'm not a coach, but I wouldn't.

Instead I'd make sure my front 5 mind their gaps & seperation. Try not to open running lanes for him & try not to rush deeper than the QB. You don't want him to step up into the pocket, you want the pocket to shrink around him.

That's easier said than done.

Hard to put pressure on a guy AND play contain with your d line.

All year we've been relentless to the qb. When you start asking guys to control gaps it takes away from the attacking style.

i'm betting we see cushing in a lot of contain-blitz settings much like the way chicago used urlacher against michael vick last season. let everyone else play their game normally, and have cushing play aggressive in a way that takes away both run and pass lanes for cam.
