Sign him!

I'll take a washed up McNabb as insurance any day.

He's old, washed up, and no where as good as he once was... But I'd feel alot more comfortable with him on our roster than Clemens or Delhomme.

Both Chicago and Dallas put claims in on Kyle Orton. I'm guessing he goes to one of those teams, although since their both 7-4, I'm not sure who's first in line when it comes to a claim. Also (although my guess is that it doesn't matter), both are ahead of the Texans.

Well I'd take Mcnabb for the rest of the season and that's an easy no brainer for me. Get him over here now!! I don't care what the hell he looked like in Minnesota or Washington. He can play a lot better than anything we've got now and he'd have the same responsibility as Leinart had where he wouldn't have to win games for us.

I doubt Kubiak would bring him in here though since his mentor Shanahan didn't like Mcnabb.

Here is where the Colts convince the world they want Luck. There is no excuse for them not to claim his cheap contract.

He will never make it down to the Texans position even if we had any interest.

McNabb Released by Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to release quarterback Donovan McNabb, team sources said Thursday.

McNabb, who was traded to the Vikings in the offseason to be their starter, recently had been taking reps with the third string and went to the team requesting his release, sources said. After a conversation with coach Leslie Frazier the Vikings have granted his request.

Several potential playoff teams have lost quarterbacks recently, including the Chicago Bears (McNabb's hometown team, and a place he would obviously love to play) and the Houston Texans, who run a system very much like what McNabb ran during his 2010 season with the Washington Redskins.

At this point, all players must clear waivers, a 24-hour process whereby other clubs could make claims. Last week, the Cowboys and Bears made claims on former Kyle Orton, as did the Chiefs, who were awarded the former Broncos quarterback because of their worse record, and thus waiver priority.

Several teams could use insurance at quarterback, and McNabb, despite his struggles in recent years, played in five NFC Championship Games and started a Super Bowl for the Philadelphia Eagles.

McNabb has a $5.05 million contract for 2011 and would cost a team about $1.5 million for the remainder of the season.

What are your thoughts? I say bring him in and work him out, at the least.

have any of you guys seen McNabb play lately? Hes been awful, has been reported to have poor work habits and is a crappy leader. He's been on 3 teams in 3 years. He's taking the Randy 'I'm past my prime Moss world tour. I'll pass.

Requested to be released by the Vikings and they did just that.

He doesn't throw INTs (third lowest % in NFL history) and can still be mobile and score. Would this be a good fit for the Texans? Better than Yates in my opinion

In all seriousness, though, I'd trade Delhomme & Clemens straight up for Donovan.
Agree, seems like a nobrainer. And McNabb can sling it long, OK maybe not
his past accuracy, but he's got a big arm and people would pay attention to the threat of AJ deep.
Look this ATL game is irrelavant, we are going to lose this game. We've got to concentrate on the winnable games and McNabb would still have time to get settled in here.

He may not be as good as he once was, but he gives the Texans a much stronger chance than Yates does. It's hard to say that even Leinart gave the Texans a better chance than Mcnabb would.

I also think that Moss could still play as well. He just doesn't have the yearning to continue to work harder to play at a pretty good level as he is a little older now. If Moss had the drive of a guy like TO who works his ass off to still be able to play at a decent level, I think Moss would still be a productive WR somewhere.

Yeah, I'll pass too..and I like McNabb. Either way, if TJ goes down we're screwed anyway. And that's giving a lot of unwarranted credit to TJ considering I haven't a clue how he's going to do.

Yeah...

And I'd still rather him over Delhomme...

Yes.... Absolute garbage. Not that we dont already have garbage, it's just that he's a bit smellier.

Just seen this on ESPN ticker and Wingo just tweeted about it.........soooooooooo do we take a sniff or no???

Dont know if this is good or bad....considering hes been traded or released multiple times in 2 years......plus Shanahan prob doenst have many good things to tell Kubes about Mcnabb

but on the other hand he has to be light years better than Clemens and Delhomme....who knows

I always thought McNabb was better than critics gave him credit for. But he seems to have fallen off the map in terms of talent. I would only take a chance on him at this point if I felt that the Vikings were just too spooked with the Favre situation to give McNabb a better chance when things fell apart. It does seem to me like Frazier is trying everything to keep his job with that team playing so poorly, so it might be possible.

The only real argument to that is that much of what you said there could apply to almost anyone presently available (and the guys with already chose) but of course you know that. Nobody left to choose from but guys with issues.

I think the Texans will go with what they've got but at the same time I wouldn't object to them putting a claim in for him if they had the room to do it. McNabb is broken at this point but that's not to say he couldn't turn it around or that the guys we already signed aren't also broken.

If he somehow doesn't get claimed, I would rather have him on the depth chart over Delhomme or Clemmons. But realistically, I don't think he makes it to us.

I'm trying to remain optimistic, but damn. Debating between Delhomme and McNabb certainly frames the predicament that we find ourselves in right now. It's like trying to figure out if dog poo taste better/worse than cat poo without having to eat either one.

Donovan McNabb is perfectly capable of being a Trent Dilfer. That's all we need, a guy who can be a passing threat but won't turn the ball over. Given the situation in Minny, I would expect him to do much better here than he did up there. He still managed to get a decent passer rating despite only having Harvin to throw to.
