Tim Tebow Jesus Jerseys Created By Denver Broncos Fans Causes Controversy

axman40

Hall of Fame
Fans of Denver Broncos' quarterback Tim Tebow have created custom jerseys that feature the name "Jesus" displayed above Tebow's number, according to KTVQ.
While some say the shirts are simply a way to honor the proudly Christian player, others are speaking out against the divine comparison.
"It's making Tebow out to be a god instead of an athlete," one person told the Christian Post. "I'm happy he's a Christian and isn't afraid to demonstrate that, but for fans to hold him up in such high regard, perhaps comparing him to Jesus, is going too far."
But in a recent post on Cafe Mom's "The Stir," blogger Jacqueline Burtargues that the shirts are harmless:

Dear saint tebow fans,
why can't your lord and savior complete more than 10 passes per game or read a defense? Unless your my cousin chewy it's looks really stoopid to put jesus on the back of a jersey. And people wonder how suckers are suckered into giving charlertain preachers tons of cash.

Maybe the Broncos just have a huge hispanic following and a lot of their fan's names are Jesus....? I'm just sayin'.

IMO, this dude has far surpassed Reggie Bush as the most over-hyped player. Fox can't even run a regular offense because of this dude.

O-ver-ra-ted *clap clap...clap clap clap*

I agree......but he just wins! :sarcasm:

A starting QB who only completes 2 passes in an NFL game is a disgrace to the position. They won't be able to continue to win with him. I never followed him in college, so I don't really know all of the hype, but the guy sure has a huge following.....despite his questionable NFL caliber skills. From what I've seen of highlight clips, he may be better suited for a FB or some kind of tweener. He has football skills, just not QB skills. Maybe they could use him the same way we use Casey.

It's starting to get embarrassing. He is far from special. At least Reggie Bush doesn't change an ENTIRE offense due to his unconventional abilities. He is the most hyped player in the HISTORY of sports. I can't think of anyone as hyped? Anyone got any ideas?

How many games in the NFL has Jesus won?

That's what I thought you'd say. /thread

I'm thinking the lord would PROBABLY be a pretty decent pocket passer and being omnicient would mean that no defensive scheme would be able to fool him. While he wouldn't demand a huge salary we all know that he wouldn't play on Sundays.

He would definitely be a great pocket passer. He would always have a clear passing lane because he would just part the defensive line like the Red Sea. It would be a sight to watch.

So you're saying that his game wouldn't translate to the NFL level then right?

Didn't they say that about Tebow too? Hmmmmm

I bet ratings are big for tonight's Tebow/Jets game...

And I don't see it happening...

But if Tebow beats the New York Jets tonight,

It would be huuuuuge!

I'll be watching Von Miller & Dumervil speed rush Sanchise, personally.

Actually, Saturday is the Sabbath Day, not Sunday.

No no. Iesvs' game would TRANSCEND the NFL. Defenses wouldn't know WHAT to do. If you're a defensive end would YOU want to level a guy who could retalliate with eternal damnation? I know I wouldn't.

I'll be watching tonight's game. I don't care if the Broncos win or lose. I just want to watch 15 play.

I liked watching Vick play in Atlanta as well.... it's a sickness.

However, if the Broncos decided to play the kid (not his fault) then they need to find a way to make him successful. PERIOD.

If that means running the wildcat, then that's what it means. Short term.

Long term, they need to be working on teaching him what he needs to know..... I refer to Michael Vick again, so that he becomes an NFL QB.

I'm sure Tim Tebow is a great human being.. I have no doubts about that, but what happens ("and what I said was"), my peepee gets a little uncomfortable with the thought of circumcision............ Just sayin'!!

I think what is sad is the media and fans... I am not a fan of Tebow but people ahve turned this into a circus.. I admit that I don't follow Tebow, but I don't see him trying to be all "high and mighty" but for some reason people are taking this to the extreme

I mean Reggie White was a minister and did his own thing but didn't have the fanatics coming out and turning his belief into a circus. Sure there was the "Minister of Defense" but no people making it into a circus

Even players are making fun because of the media ..doing the "Tebow" and he didn't ask for this and was just being himself.

For me, I couldn't care less if he praised Satan or L. Ron Hubbard at every moment. It's not Christianity that bothers me. It's that he insists on directing everything about himself (a highly recognizable athlete and nothing less) towards his faith. It's polarizing to say the very least and as long as he insists on "playing the part" he can expect as many people to view him negatively as applaud him. To me, it comes off very insincere. Like the way Joel Osteen is viewed by some, just a guy pandering christianity for the recognition and money. Maybe he doesn't care, maybe his goal is just to get people talking about it...idk but to me, if he picked his spots it would be less of a deal.

And if you don't think he's playing it up, if you don't think it's insincere....take the "Tebowing" incident as proof. You really, honestly believe he's the only christian on the field? It's just kinda weird that he can't high five people without a prayer. He took the chance knowing that all cameras are aimed at him to set himself apart. Some people will like it. Some people won't. Either way, if he doesn't want the attention, he shouldn't slop it on so thick.

At the end of the day its just gossip. The ongoing feminization of America has turned Men into gossip hounds. That's what drives this "story"...just plain ol' feminine gossip.

Then tell me how what Tebow does is any different than a running back or a WR that scores a TD, kneeling in the endzone to say a prayer. All cameras are on that player at that particular moment. Why can they not just flip the ball back to the ref and , as you say, high five people? I have seen numerous players start an interview by praising their savior, yet no back lash from media. So how is that ok but what Tebow does considered "weird?" It's not like he ran to the middle of the field and did his prayer for all to see. He was on the sideline with his teammates. Should he have ran back into the tunnel where nobody could see him in fear of "offending" anybody? It's ludicrous...

It's hypocrisy at it's finest. This kid has been the same kid through high school and college and now int he NFL and people think it's fake? I believe that we now live in a world where it is hard to believe anything an athlete does or says to be true because we as fans have been burned so many times before by our "heroes" turning out to by liars and cheats.

I think Tebow is a "victim of circumstance" in the fact that he is now playing in an era where everybody is being speculated of being phony, or a cheat so anything he does that would have been considered as genuine say 5-10 yrs ago, now looks hokey and insincere, even if he is absolutely, 100% sincere in everything that he does.

sad really, if you think about it...

You're right. It's not that different, except that it's Tebow and all the shenanigans that goes with anything he does.

If it's not weird to you, take your own rant as proof. Other people kneel, other people glorify god in interviews, other people wear their beliefs on their sleeves....

.....but for some reason people think it's insincere when Tebow does it. Why is that? It's weird, right?

Look, you believe what you want to believe but perception is almost always reality. Reality is that lots of people don't buy the sauce he's mixing. I get that it hits a nerve with some christians...but you have to realize why it gets on other people's nerves and accept their opinion is just as good as yours. I get your side, I really do. He's just doing what he believes is right. Well, people are either going to dig it or call him a clown. Personally, I think he plays a role set up for him by the media and it all gets pushed too far. By him and the media after him. I also think that's exactly what he wants, people's eyes and ears on christianity, which is why he does it, why he's willing to accept criticism for it.

lol! Metrosexuality is a freakin' disease. :howdy:

Who gives a rat's ass about what he does off the field and on the sideline???

Seriously, IT'S JUST ENTERTAINMENT, PEOPLE!!!! :cow:

so that picture of Tebow was just outrageous to some but this picture most people got behind... Well here in Houston anyway...

duantarobinsonshoes.jpg

hmmmm.....

I'm not so sure what the correlation to Tim Tebow quoting scripture on his face during the national championship game and Dunta's temper tantrum. The shoe incident enraged many folks in Houston but to run with your premise... plenty of people love Tebow for his christian devotion... like my wife for example. Most was a reach anyway.

Agreed. it would be much better if he threw his hands around his waist in the "shape" of a belt, so everyone would know & appreciate his adoration of the WWE.

We know it's fake, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. Those guys are some extreme athletes.

There are some Christians that are Christians & everybody is fine with that. Then there are those Christians that unintentionally cram their Christianity down your throat... they give off an, "I'm better than you." vibe.

I don't know Tebow one way or the other & I don't feel like he's one of those, "I'm better than you." types. But he's getting treated as if he is.

I don't necessarily consider that hypocrisy. It simply appears to me that many people feel he is one of those "Christians" that aren't very "Christian" in that they feel they are superior to everyone else.

If that makes sense. If not, it's JMO.

ok but what has this kid ever done to not be "very Christian"? I have read about him in SI when he was in high school, read about him in college and never once did the articles ever differ from who this kid is. He has been the same kid from high school, college and now the pros but is considered a phony and a "Holier than Thou" type?

The hypocrisy stems from other athletes doing the same thing Tebow does and not getting called out on it. Tebow makes a TD, celebrates with his teammates, runs to the sideline and says a prayer, giving thanks and he is , pun intended, crucified for it? Why? Like I stated earlier, how is what Tebow does any different than someone scoring a TD and taking a knee, praying and giving thanks, in the endzone? Everybody screams, he should just high 5 people after a TD, yet you have others who do exactly what "they" don't want Tebow to do and are praised for it? Where is the logic in that?

Sorry, I don't see the fuss and most of the, scratch that, ALL of the hype is from ESPN and the NFL Network, not Tebow. I don't see Tebow out promoting himself like say TO did while doing sit ups in his drive way, do you?

Basically it boils down to the 1 human nature that so many are guilty of and have been for centuries and centuries....People are scared of that which is different....

So you spend 500 words telling us he's not any different & there's a bit of hypocrisy floating in the air. Then you tell me he's hated because he's different.

This is obviusly too personal for you. I don't know perhaps you're still attached to his genitals. Some advice, let them go. Let them go.

You've been given several examples of Christian players who weren't ashamed of their faith, who weren't persecuted the way Tebow is. Reggie White, Kurt Warner, \teve Young. For whatever reaspne, people don't feel that Tebow is as sincere as those guys were.

Get over it.

Look at your bold statement and then what you wrote above. Tebow is different in that he puts it out there more.

And again, bottom line just like Vince Young, I don't care if you're TEAM wins football games while you happen to be QB, I still get to have an opinion on your performance at QB. Really this is almost a silly debate. We had a QB who prior to injury was about to go for 4000 yards for the third straight year and people are saying, he didn't really mean anything to the offense, he was mediocre, he was off this year, yada yada, and you are trying to praise a guy who can barely complete a pass. We get it. You love he is Christian.

I don't love him becasue he is a Christan, hell I don't love the kid at all, yet my question still goes unanswered, and "just becasue" is not an answer, why is he bashed for what he does when SO many other do the exact same thing. Because he cannot complete a pass, he is hated, that has to be the dumbest reason in the history of stupid reasons. He wins, or should say, has won. So called experts say he won't last, those same experts are the ones that said he would never be drafted in the first round, same experts said he will never start as a NFL QB, same experts that said he will never win if he starts..yada, yada, yada....

When are people gonna stop listening to these so called "experts?"

And what I meant by the comment was he plays the position differently, he is not the "stereotypical QB" but yet finds a way to get it done and he is bashed and ridiculed for it. Ergo, folks don't like what is not normal...

Get over it.

What is it with you and a man's genitalia. There something you need to deal with in your own closet? Always with the "hanging from a man's genitals" reference with you... Is there something you need to deal with in your own closet cause it seems like it wants out so it can play.

Second, the comment about being different was in reference that Tebow does not play nor fit the "stereotypical" NFL QB, so therefore is bashed for not being "the same" He is different in that aspect, and people do not deal well when something "different" comes along. Just like when the Wildcat came into the league, it was different and successful, yet criticized and bashed. He is the same in the fact he has been the same kid from high school, through college and now the NFL...

It has nothing to do with being personal, I don't know this kid any better than I know you. I am after answers to questions nobody can seem to find. As far as Tebow religion, he puts it out there more because the camera's are in his face more. Realistically, I have seen other athletes, Reggie White comes first to mind, put it out there even further. Being called the "Minister of Defense{ and him yelling at the O-line that " The Warrior of God is coming" I think would classify it being taken to another level. Yes I know, "Uh Uh Reggie White was a Hall of Famer!" So if that is the case, so if/when Tebow leads the Broncos to the Playoffs and possibly win a game, then everybody is going to back off? Highly doubt that...

Bottom line, people are hypocrites in responding one way to someone and not keeping it the same across the board. It's ok to forgive and forget a man who killed animals becasue he can throw a football for 300+ yards, but not ok for a kid in his 3rd year, 1st as the true starter, to wear his emotions on his sleeve and have the MEDIA put him out there becasue he cannot complete a pass?

Let me ask you a question, who would you rather have be a role model for your son, if you have one and other than you, Mike Vick or Tim Tebow?

I think I already know your answer....

I don't love him becasue he is a Christan, hell I don't love the kid at all, yet my question still goes unanswered, and "just becasue" is not an answer, why is he bashed for what he does when SO many other do the exact same thing.
I really don't think it's because of what he does, but how he does it. He doesn't come across as genuine to most people & the media has nothing to do with that.
When you look at, I can see this adding to the Tebow hate. He has not shown to be a QB in any of the ways everyone before him has had to. Yet he refuses to play anything but QB & some how, he gets the chance to play QB when other guys (Kyle Orton & Brady Quin) have shown to be much better prepared to play the position.

Why?

Why is Tebow playing QB & Orton isn't? Why is Tebow playing QB & Quin isn't?

He can't have shown in practice that he is better prepared or that he gives the team the best chance of winning.... not possible, not with what we've seen on Sunday's (& most recently Thursday).
When are people gonna stop listening to these so called "experts?"

And what I meant by the comment was he plays the position differently, he is not the "stereotypical QB" but yet finds a way to get it done and he is bashed and ridiculed for it. Ergo, folks don't like what is not normal...

I like the guy. So I know for a fact not everyone listens to the "experts"

But I'm not seeing Tebow "getting it done." I'm seeing a team that has bought into Tim Tebow & that's cool. I'd have much rather watched their last two games (KC & Oak) where they actually moved the ball.

But, I think it says something when Sanchez was a big reason the Jets didn't win that game.

However, as far as "doing it" & "getting it done" he's showing us that he is not an NFL QB & the chances of him actually becoming one is looking less & less likely.

As far as the option in the NFL... why not? There are a bunch of QBs who have experience doing it that don't make it to the NFL.... you could probably pick the three best college QBs every year undrafted... as soon as one goes down, throw another one in there.

I agree with you though, it's about wins. Not how you win. & you should stop making it about Tebow.

& you should stop making it about Tebow.

and there is my answer.... Thanks!

As far as Orton and Quinn not getting the chance, remember they didn't even want Orton, they tried to dump him off on the Dolphins so I think what little leash they gave Orton, he hung himself with and as far as Quinn, well if Tebow isn't showing anything, that we think, in practice to warrant a starting job, then just how bad is Quinn?

Now time to go shoot some people on MW3...
