Seven sacks! SEVEN SACKS!!!

At this rate we will have 112 sacks this year! Adibi and Braman will set the single season record at 32 each! What an awesome year that will be!!!

Just feed him BBQ, some puddin', screw a too-small ballcap down on his head, and let that man coach defense. Period.

The only thing that bothers me is our front 7 first team guys.

I know we didn't have J Joseph. But we had Manning. Outside of Watt, I didn't see the other guys doing much (IMO). We gave up a ton of slants to Jets 1st teamers. Sanchez and Holmes seemed like they could have had their way with us if they wanted to.

The 2nd teamers on defense, to me, looked really good. A lot of passion and what seemed to be overall smarts out there. They were running the 3-4 system. Stunting on the d-line and with LB support, DBs getting on their man and getting physical. Batting down passes. Sacks. Just very active compared to years' past.

And Braman, well...you know I have a soft spot in my heart for #50 because he's from WTAMU. This Buffalo (class of 1998) wants #50 to make the team as depth.

Have the Texans ever had 7 sacks in any game?

I'm clearly entering the great state of Insomnia so I had to check. :D

Game by game and sorry for the crudeness. Houston's opponent followed by the number of sack Houston got that game.

So, it has been done once and it was the most Houston has had in a regualr season game, but it was during the most dreadful season in Texans history with a bad (and painful) result. :truck:

(If a mistake is found my apologies)

No mistake. It was corroborated in an article on Chron.com

Hate to be a party-pooper, but every training camp O-Linemen (& RBs) everywhere are befuddled by opposing D's going for the QB--especially blitz packages--and this year they had less training camp to get it together. Wade's D did make the most of it though.

I don't discount this. It is also the preseason.

But we've never had so many sacks in one game..... period, regardless the reason. What impressed me the most, was that most of them were coverage sacks.

Again, against a second team that had little time to prepare & a 7th round rookie QB..... who looked good I thought other than the constant turf he kept eating, but that wasn't his fault.

Would have been 8 if Jeo could tackle, and to think 1 of the 7 was a legit coverage sack. Who'd of thunk it?

Would have been 9 if Braman had slowed down and wrapped up McIlroy, but the QB spun away at just right the time.

9 sacks, potentially. Wow!

Seven! Seven sacks! Ah ah ah!

I think the difference between the 1st and 2nd teamers is that most (except for Watt) of the guys were 4-3 players just last year and they will have the longest transition. The majority of the 2nd teamers were brought in for the 3-4 and either have previously played their positions or are rooks who don't know any better.

Overall the D looked really good and with a good wrap up by Keo and once by Braman-we would have had 9 sacks. I'll take that any day of the week and twice on Sunday (for 18 sacks during a game of course!).

I understand it's the 1st preseason game, but our run defense wasn't very good. I haven't even looked at stats but it seemed like Green and McNight were running through us darn near every play. I'm sure it'll get better.

Tack on another 4 sacks. Two from the holy terror, Brooks Reed.

I admit I thought the addition of Wade was a silly gimmick to avoid firing Kubiak.

Looks like I was wrong. I [heart] Wade.

I just wonder though. If Wade does fix this defense completely, and another team offers him the HC job does he take it? Or maybe he can just become a great coordination like Dick LeBeau...

Wade's head coaching days are over. (Assuming Big Bob doesn't make him the interim coach after another disappointment.) You can relax.

I shouldn't speak in absolutes because it comes off as arrogant, but I just don't see it. That ship has sailed.

I hope so too, I hope Wade has realized that his days as a Head coach are done with. If he wants to have special recognition after he retires he needs to go the LeBeau route and just stick in one place and just have a great defense year after year. A lot of great coaches made their names from just being coordinators any ways.

I guess it all depends. Hopefully Wade does good enough to get HC consideration again and turn them down. But so far this defense looks nothing like the one of last year. I am pretty much convinced that he's going to turn this ship around.

Wade is highest paid DC and is a millionaire. He can continue his father's legacy and like him become an icon in Texas. He saw Luv Ya Blue up close and could be catalyst to a similar type phenomena.

pre-season or not, starters doing it or not, it is obvious the defense does have a better spark to them this year. We'll find out all about this in 3 weeks when Indy comes to town.

Definitely a better feel to the defense than last year. It's not just the sacks but all the hurries and pressures as well. Brees missed several short passes due to his timing being disrupted. If we can keep the pressure dialed up, I think our secondary starts looking better.

Tack on another three sacks for Uncle Wade's boys. Two of them from the starters (Antonio Smith and Connor Barwin).

And the defense pitched a shutout.

Hard not to be optimistic about this season.

I know. I am expecting my alarm clock to go off any second and wake me up. This must be a dream.

Seriously. It's worth repeating: not since watching Buddy Ryan's defense back in the early nineties have I seen a defense this exciting in Houston. I found myself eager to get the offense off the field so I could watch the opposing quarterback struggle.

Without a doubt the defense is going to be better this season. But how much we really won't know until they start playing for real.
