This guy is getting blasted in the twitterverse for some tweets regarding Osama's capture, and deservedly so, I would say. He is on Rosie O'Donnells level of ignorance.

Apparently, Mendenhall does not watch the news much. Bin Laden has several videos out there that have been shown multiple times.
 
Keep in mind this is the same dumbass who recently was with Adrian Peterson calling himself and the rest of the NFL players a bunch of modern day slaves.

Anyone who has seen the footage and still finds it hard to believe that a 767 carrying tens of thousands of gallons of jet fuel is incapable of causing a large skyscraper to collapse, is a moron.

First, the person you are defending - reveled in death!! See 3,000 people on 9/11 not counting the two American embassies in Africa getting bombed, the USS Cole and the first WTC bombing.

We have heard him talk (albeit translated), and we've heard him express views such as death to infedels. Death to Isreal, etc...

Rashard, it's better that you remain within a domain that you can speak to. At this point, it's pretty obvious that you are ignorant and should ONLY talk about running the football.

And by the way, the right to free speech protects an individual or group from being arrested for something he might say (or express). It does not prohibit ALL OTHER KINDS OF LEGAL RETRIBUTION and RIDICULE that might be heeped upon the expressor of a moronic opinion like this.

Rashard Mendenhall on Wednesday posted a blog entry apologizing for and trying to clarify his controversial tweets regarding Osama bin Laden's death.

The Pittsburgh Steelers running back created a stir with comments made on his official Twitter page Monday after news of bin Laden's death broke.

"What kind of person celebrates death?" he wrote. "It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side..."

He tried to clarify those comments Wednesday.

"This controversial statement was something I said in response to the amount of joy I saw in the event of a murder. I don't believe that this is an issue of politics or American pride; but one of religion, morality, and human ethics," he wrote.

After quoting a bible verse, he wrote: "I wasn't questioning Bin Laden's evil acts. I believe that he will have to face God for what he has done. I was reflecting on our own hypocrisy. During 9/11 we watched in horror as parts of the world celebrated death on our soil. Earlier this week, parts of the world watched us in horror celebrating a man's death."

He apologized later in the posting and said he was just trying to "generate conversation."

"I apologize for the timing as such a sensitive matter, but it was not meant to do harm," he wrote. "I apologize to anyone I unintentionally harmed with anything that I said, or any hurtful interpretation that was made and put in my name.

"It was only meant to encourage anyone reading it to think."

Rob Lefko of Priority Sports, which represents Mendenhall, confirmed that the running back wrote Wednesday's blog post.

"This was truly, word for word, Rashard's thoughts," Lefko told ESPN.com's James Walker. "It was not written by anyone else and not crafted by anyone else."

Mendenhall on Monday also posted a tweet making a reference to the Sept. 11 attacks.

"We'll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style," he tweeted.

Mendenhall has since deleted his 9/11-related tweet. He didn't address the tweet or its deletion in his blog posting Wednesday.

His comments about doubting the authenticity of the attacks and giving people grief for hating OBL (one side of the story, really?) are beyond stupid.

But he does make a salient point about celebrating too much. A lot of what we saw going on immediately after the raid was a case of patriotism run amok. I hope most people were celebrating the possible end of a long, turbulent era in American (and World) history, and also cheering for the closure, justice, and peace brought to the victims of 9/11. But I can't help but get the feeling that many people were cheering out of sheer bloodlust (and the aforementioned misguided patriotism).

All that being said, dude should probably STFU and delete his twitter account before he makes himself the loneliest man in the NFL.
 
The part about celebrating death was a thing that bothered me, but the rest of his comments just make him sound stupid and ignorant. I refuse to dance and parade around cause we killed a guy who deserved to die. I just nod my head and moved on.
 
I agree with him on the celebrating part. I couldn't help but think that Sunday night when the TV was showing Americans dancing and celebrating how eerily similar that was on the other side of the world 10 years ago.

I didn't go out in the street to yell and scream... but I did definitely do a couple Phil Mickelson fist pumps.
 
If I'm being honest, I have no problem with the celebrations. Had I known, I would have had a few beers in celebration but I didn't find out until Monday morning. Would I have gone out in the streets, no, but I have no problem with the celebrations at all.

I personally had my family (parents and sisters) living 10 miles outside NYC and working downtown near the Towers when it happened. I was living in Clear Lake at the time in a near frenzy as I couln't reach them for a couple days and I had no idea what happened to them.

Does this give me the right to feel that my feelings are superior to others or something, no it doesn't. But I do have a different side or POV in my emotions about it due to family.

I don't have a problem celebrating death depending on the situation. There are certain people in my life that if they passed away, I would have no problem rejoicing at the news. They would probably do the same about me.

It's just called hate. Pure and unadulterated. Healthy - no. Human - yes.

No regrets for that emotion.

It's quite easy to understand the lack of balance on a topic like this
in a forum like this (last year's megathread involving me notwithstanding.)

I'd advise those who're seething at his remarks to let it go, and wait
for Mattress Mack to have a "Bin Laden Execution Commemorative
Sale (much like he did almost immediately post-911.)"

In other words...

Ease up on Rashard.

The day Americans start dancing in the streets celebrating the death of thousands of civilians, then we can talk. Otherwise, there is absolutely no comparison between the two.

I don't share your feelings, Dexman, but I do like your sentiment. I hope Mendenhall doesn't get any serious (potentially dangerous) threats from his words. We may not agree with his opinion, but he can still have it and should have it without fear of retribution from anyone. We all know there are people out there......

If you are implying what I think you are, I'm well aware of the civilian casualties caused by our military operations. As much as I don't like the fact that it happens, there will never be a celebration of sorts in America due to the death of civilians.

Athletic apparel manufacturer Champion announced Thursday that it had dropped the Pittsburgh Steelers running back after he questioned the celebrations of bid Laden's death and expressed his uncertainty over official accounts of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in New York, suburban Washington and Pennsylvania.

Spokesman Matt Hall told USA Today that the company was "ending our business relationship" with Mendenhall because it didn't believe he "can appropriately represent Champion."

Hell I SAID "I refuse to celebrate someone's death" and that doing so was "bad juju". I'm surprised no one is calling ME a terrorist sympathizer. The man was evil and deserved what he got. Let's not attack each other because of THIS jerk (Bin Ladin) He's caused enough division among Americans.

That part of the tweet didn't bother people.

Its the fact that he said "We've only heard one side" meaning we didn't hear Osamas side

and that he said "I have a hard time believeing that one plane could take down a building" or something like that

9/11 conspiracy theory + wanting to hear OBLs side of the story = no endorsement for you!

Agreed. Which is why i said he was on Rosie O's level of ignorance. That was about as stupid as her saying never in the history of the world has fire melted steel. Some people need to sit down and have a physics course, and see just how a 767 going full speed can cripple a giant skyscraper to the point of collapsing.

Not trying to defend the guy, but maybe he was trying to say one thing and wrote something else? I know that happens to me a lot on TTalk as I'm thinking one thing and I write down something different.
