Felony Warrant Issued for Bucs CB Aqib Talib

Police in a Dallas suburb have issued an arrest warrant for Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib accusing him of firing a gun at his sister's boyfriend.

Garland police said Tuesday they believe Talib and his mother, Okolo Talib, shot at the man March 21. The man wasn't injured. Earlier that day, the man had been listed as a suspect in a disturbance and was charged with assault and interference with an emergency phone call from that incident.

Authorities issued arrest warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for Talib and his mother. She turned herself in Tuesday.

Police say Aqib Talib is set to turn himself in later this week. His agent, Todd France, did not immediately return a call.

Aqib Talib's bail will be set at $25,000, according to the Garland Police Department.

Sounds like the man whooped Aquib's sister and Aquib and his mother then went looking for some payback instead of letting law enforcement handle the situation. CB might now be Tampa's biggest need in the draft.

Pretty sure they lost Tanard Jackson last year to an ugly knee injury too. Good thing for them Brent Grimes was pretty awesome for a rook cb (Damn you Kareem Jackson!).

But like...if I was pissed and swung a bat all around but never hit anyone...

I realize there is some punishment for firing a gun at somebody, I'm not trying to argue that...but isn't there something other than assault that applies? Terrorism maybe? Just scaring people to scare people. Idk....seems really dumb to call it assault if no one is even slightly bruised. Almost as dumb as it is to be making millions playing a game and blow it by popping a gun off....

Assault is just the act of making someone feel that they're in danger, battery is if you actually cause harm. So if you were swinging a bat at a person and they felt like you were going to hit them with it, you've committed assault.

People often mistake assault and battery.

So we've got another NFL player acting like a thug. Why am I not surprised?

Just another reason as to why I say that these guys are way over paid and I'd like to see the owners win their fight in this thing. NFL players have no idea how good they have it. This guy probably just ruined his career.

Speaking as a Houston Police Officer, you'd be arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. It doesn't matter whether you strike the person what matters is your intent. Just because you have a lousy swing with a bat and miss doesn't mean you didn't intend to hit them. You'd still be headed to prison where they'd make sure you have a special roommate.

Of course he will likely be suspended....but I don't think they will ban him...

He probably won't spend a whole lot of time in jail either...

I never knew a difference between assault and battery, so thanks for making me learn something new today! I just want to say, I don't think you're wrong, I'm not trying to argue....I really actually didn't know assault/battery were different.

BUT

I guess you could argue that if I didn't hit anybody, I didn't intend to but intentions and how the other party felt about you wildly swinging a bat are pretty grey areas.

If I go after you with a bat swinging at you but your quicker and able to duck or roll out of the way and I don't strike you, it's a pretty safe assumption that I wasn't trying to swat mosquitoes that were close to you. I was trying to hit you with the bat, why else would I be swinging a bat at you. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if someone swings a bat at you then they meant to hit you, thus assaulting you. Every state is different, just different wording for the same offense but their is no battery in Texas it's assault by contact class c misdemeanor, assault bodily injury class a misdemeanor, or aggravated assault which has varying degrees but they are all felonies.

Getting this back to football it sounds like Talibs mom is taking the fall for him in order to protect the family meal ticket. When you draft a thug from the hood, you get a thug from the hood. Don't be surprised.
 
The last statement is true

I can imagine alot of this kind of behavior if the lockout continues for any significant amount of time.
