Titans hire their OC and it is......

Chris Palmer!!! The same great guy who helped our offense suck will now lead our former team and I hope he does the same there!!

“I was able to talk to a number of candidates and Chris was the coach who fit what I was looking for,” Titans coach Mike Munchak said in a team-issued release. “Chris has a wealth of experience as a coordinator and a coach. He is a great teacher of the game and has been around a variety of good coaches and winning football programs. He has helped develop many quarterbacks and understands what that process is like, as he raised their games to a high level over time.”

Anyone want to take a shot at guessing who might be a back-up QB for them next season?????

Um, this guy????

Palmer was a coach on the 35-3 team. Looks like the Titans are trying to assemble a cast of quite a few folks from that game. This will truly test the limits of karma next season.

KARMA, ARE YOU LISTENING??? :fortune:

I wouldn't laugh too fast. Capers hamstrung Palmer while he was here.

No doubt. But sometimes a good overkill is in the cards. Especially when it comes to Duds team.

In all seriousness, the titans fans have known nothing but Fisher. They may have hit the jackpot with Munchak. But they also may just now be entering that revolving door alot of other teams get stuck in for years. We definitely shall see.

And Carrs inability to read defenses didn't help either. I don't think Palmer is that bad.

What has Palmer actually done to get these excuses already?

"He has helped develop many quarterbacks and understands what that process is like, as he raised their games to a high level over time.”

Are you kidding me? What has he done in the last 10 years to develop QB's? Nothing. Browns head coach, crap. Texans OC, crap. Cowboys QB coach, crap. Giants QB coach, Manning already in his 4th season when Palmer arrived. Hartford Colonials?

If you need anymore evidence that the Titans are taking a QB #8 here it is.

VY is just as bad as Carr was when it comes to recognizing defensive fronts. It ought to be interesting to see what they do with the QB situation going forward.

Maybe so, but Vince did improve and has other tools in his ability to make up for it. He's way better than Carr and it's not even close. I'm not sure if Vince will even start over there or what his situation even is with that team.

Small flaws in his motion? You may be being more than a little kind haha.

Sadly, his poor mechanics were public knowledge to anyone not named Charlie Casserley. But the marketing dept. got their face of the franchise...and that was enough for Uncle Bob

Vince is going to have a chance to start. No doubt. Carr will be lucky to remain employed in the NFL. UFL here we go!

I don't know much about Palmer and therefore this is the hire that doesn't excite me. On the surface I have no idea why you would want ot hire a 61-year-old who recently retired from the NFL. Every other coach seems set up to last for a while (if the team performs).

I guess their line of thinking is that with all the young blood in that coaching staff it couldnt hurt to have a coach with alot of experience. Especially at the most important position on the field. And especially when you are drafting a young QB with your first pick in a couple of months.

I still think drafting a QB at 8 will be a mistake, but you're right the possibility definitely improved with this hire considering what he's been tasked with in the past. I know nothing of his playacalling as I didn't pay much attention when he was in Houston or Jacksonville. Not inspired by this hire at all. We'll see, though.

I wouldn't pay much attention to his play calling in Houston. I think his hands were tied both by the HC and by the QB. He would definitely get the ball in CJ's hands whether by rush or pass.

Palmer is a great WR coach.

He's an Good QB coach.

He's an OK OC.

He's a terrible HC.

You mean Vince has a chance to start somewhere else correct? Not sure why Vince is even being mentioned in this thread when the Titans have made it clear they are shipping him off.

As far as Palmer goes ... LOL. Wow, I knew karma would hit Bud and Nashville someday but man, this is getting better than I would have ever expected.

Yep. Palmer had little to nothing to work with in terms of talent and a HC who was at odds with his offensive mindset.

Better hope Wade has his act together before laughing at the other guy.

Wade is much more proven at every level if you want to throw his name into this.

I hope so. The Texans need teams ahead of them to take offensive players, and leave some quality defenders on the board.
Wasn't Palmer a coach on that post-expansion Browns team that made it
to the playoffs?
No. Palmer was the head coach of the expansion Browns. He was fired after 2 seasons and replaced by Butch Davis. Davis took the Browns to the playoffs two years later.

Munchack seems to be going back to his Oiler roots (where's Glanville?). We'll see if that's a good thing. I think not.

Didn't you see the photo of Titans maintenance workers ripping down the huge Vince Young promotional billboard that was plastered on a wall of their stadium?

It was on a thread around here somewhere.

Vince ain't gonna' be a Titans player, even with Fisher's departure.

And oddly enough, I can see them taking Cam Newton if he's still on the board. They're going to think he's the new & improved version of VY. They're going to want to make sure the fans have a big, flashy attraction to buy tickets for. Bud needs to make headlines again, and that's the move that generates buzz.

I think this exemplifies what we've been seeing here. It's not just a coaches ability to manage a team, but his circle of friends. Frank Bush, Richard Smith..... maybe those were the best that Kubiak could convince to come in.

Surely it was McNair & Bum that got Wade in here.

Crennel & Weisz going to Kansas City was more about Piolli than Haley.

I wish Munchak was in another division..... then I could root for his efforts to succeed. As it is... I hope he falls flat on his face.

You think Cam may be gone before 8??

I'm hoping he drops out of the top 10, & someone trades their draft for our #11 pick. (ala Cutler->Denver)

A couple days ago, Kiper and some other dude had their QB chalkboard up.

They both believed Cam might last until round 2 or 3. The both had Gabbert going as the first QB taken. But they said Cam is the guy who ought to go round 2 or 3, but could be a shock pick in round 1 if some team wanted to take a chance on him.

I think the Titans are that team. They have just come off releasing/trading VY and cutting ties with Fisher. Outside of Chris Johnson, there is NO identity on that team now.

Bud is a guy who likes to rock the boat. He saw that VY could perform fairly well, but that his days were over due to tirades, depression, arrogance, squabbling with coaches, erratic behavior, etc. He's going to think he can replicate VY's on-field magic via Cam Newton. And they're going to think Cam has better passing mechanics than VY had.

I could be wrong. It just smells like a Bud Adams move, especially given their current no-name status. He needs some flash. He needs a draw. Cam played in the SEC, in the south there, and he'd be a draw for fans. Lord knows he'd probably carve up the Texans, who outside of containing Vick, have not proven they can bottle up a mobile QB (i.e. David Garrard and VY).

I dont know how good a QB Newton will be.

But the thought of Newton and CJ in the backfield and Britt outside is scary. Those are true weapons.

I wasn't inferring Vince has a chance to start for the Titans. That ship has sailed.

I just think he is going to get a starting job somewhere in 2011. Minny would be his best spot but could go to a few other teams.

Arizona looks to be off the radar as Fitzgerald has endorsed Kolb and giving such a move his blessing.

Ah, I see. I inferred that you meant the Titans. My bad.

Yep.

I think Bud Adams will be tempted to make Cam Newton absolve his blunder of drafting VY.

I even wonder if this was part of Fisher's reason for splitting with the Titans: He was told that Bud wants another crack at a VY version 2.0 (Cam Newton) and Jeff had enough of being fed a regular diet of Bud's meddling. That's a pretty big speculative situation, I know, but still....things are wacky in Budville.

I think Bud Adams will be tempted to make Cam Newton absolve his blunder of drafting VY.

I don't know about that. Bud's reasons for forcing his staff to take VY had more to do with the vendetta he has against the city of Houston than the flash he brings to the field.

Considering that Cam Newton is not from Houston, didn't play at UT probably doesn't put Newton on Bud's radar.

Too bad Garrett Gilbert didn't come out early.

The Tennessean is reporting that the Tacks just got their new RB coach...........Jim Skipper, former RB coach of the mighty Panthers.

Looks like Munch is a forward looking kinda guy.

The joke might be on them. Luck redshirted in 2008 and was the starter in 2009 and this last season in 2010. When he finishes this year, he will still have 1 more year of eligibility! Luck could stay in school another year!!!

You mean the RB's coach of

DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart?

Even Mike Goodson looked pretty good last yr under Skippers tutalege.

Ragone was new Titans OC Chris Palmer's playcaller in the UFL last year. The 88th overall pick in the 2003 draft, Ragone made two career starts, losing both for Houston. He's one of many in a long line of Charley Casserly draft busts.
Fixed it.
