Tape on Cushing's and Turk's arms?

Does anyone know why they were wearing black tape on their arms? Was it even tape?

Whatever it was... it was performance enhancing :hurrah:

KT (Kinesiology Therapeutic) tape is supposed to reduce pain, enhance athletic ability

I don't know much about it

If its cutting edge and a bit off the beaten path performance wise, you can be sure Cushing is all over it.

Not a jab at him about PEDs, just his dedication to every avenue of performance improvement.

You see it a lot in UFC's where fighters are wearing the same kind of tape (it's usually flesh colored though) on parts of their bodies that are hurt. Not sure how much tape helps when it's like that but whatever!

first i saw the tape was a few years ago with beach volleyball players, on their shoulders and down the arms like cushing had it. with the way those guys played (and bentley who had an above average game for himself), i bet they start talking more texans into using it. turk hit his first good (and great) punts in more than a month, and cushing was a steel friggin trap once he got his hands on someone - even when caught flatfooted, runners would've had better luck moving a brick wall.

it's probably psychosomatic (is that the right word?), but hey - whatever works.

i don't know if it's performance enhancing, but it is supposed to reduce pain. I first saw it on these 2 gals in the beijing olympics.

It lasts longer than regular tape ( up to two or three days) and helps with blood flow getting back to the hurt or affected areas quicker. It really does work for recurring injuries and problem areas . I've used it during my rehab from ankle surgery a bit. From what I know a lot of trainers aren't certified on it yet so you don't see it much.

With all the Texans wearing it I sure hope they took the time to check and see what was in it. I'd hate to have that many of our guys suspended for "overtraining"

It's actually only elastic cotton tape. The classic tape is not treated with any chemical or supplemental substances. It was first introduced in a widely popular venue by a Japanes chiropractor (who actually invented it in 1972, with some isolated popularity in Japan since) in the Bejing olympics that you posted the picture of above. The supposed unique properties come from the pattern of the weave of the cotton as well as the pattern of the placement. The supposed "properties" are to improve circulation in the area of soreness in order to hasten healing, decrease swelling and decrease pain. Although, there have been several studies with the tape, some studies have shown no value while some have shown very limited value. However, even the studies showing limited results are fairly poorly constructed. Despite this fact, athletes of all sports have popularized its use. The one thing that is said is that it should be placed about 4 days prior to the sports event if it is to be used as a prophylactic protective maneuver. "Coincidentally," that is the same amount of time the the tape tends to stick without falling off. It works particularly well for athletes in New Orleans, where Voo Doo is also practiced. Oh, and BTW, I've seen it in an array of bright colors..........it may be of value when riding your bike at night.

Doc, are ya lobbin' a shot at "the tape"?

I'd never seen it before and honestly, I thought that he was having a little fun at Babin's expense when I saw it on his arm.

To me, it's along the same lines as those necklaces the MLB players wear, and the bracelets golfers wear.

A bunch of hogwash, IMO. Just something to try, to think you get an edge off it.

But hey: To each their own. I'd like to see Goodell mandate this tape be placed over Innegan's mouth...I think it might stop his trash talking.

Yeah it is a bunch of hogwash. It'll go the way of sleeping in oxygen tents, etc.

But I'm all for it if we can use it to hogtie Finnegan.

Someone explained to me that it was like magnet therapy that was popular a few? years ago. Same principal - easier to use without all of those bumpy magnets up and down your arm.

Damn. I thought Cushing just got a really ugly tribal tattoo and hadn't gotten it finished. Dumb thought by me considering it's football season and getting a tattoo during football season is a stupid idea.

I thought the same thing! But wasn't smart enough to put the football season issue together until you posted it!

lol that was my first thought as well ... cushing painted on some ugly half finished tattoo, probably to mock babin.

Haven't you noticed how injury-free Babin stays with all dem tatoos??

(Unrelated, I should have mentioned that the KT can be made of elastic cotton or inelastic cotton material.)
