Gil Brandt calls Sam Bradford's workout "Best he's seen since Aikman"

NORMAN, Okla. - Sam Bradford’s workout Monday in front of representatives for all 32 NFL teams at Oklahoma’s pro day almost left me speechless. And that’s saying something.

Bradford threw 63 passes (13 during a stationary period and 50 scripted throws) during the workout and, in my estimation, didn’t have one that was uncatchable. He moved around well, including throwing on the run out of the pocket, and went through the entire route tree. The scripted workout included three-, five- and seven-step drops, shotgun, and play-action plays, plus sprints and rollouts to both sides.

It really was a treat to watch, and I think everyone here was in awe of Bradford’s performance. In fact, he put on the best quarterback workout by a draft prospect that I’ve seen since I watched a private workout Troy Aikman put on for us with the Cowboys in California.

If Bradford is feeling the effects of his shoulder injury or is experiencing any weakness, there were no indications of that. He threw with velocity during the entire workout.

He officially measured in at 6-foot-5 and 236 pounds.

Terry Shea, a former college and NFL coach who’s working with Bradford as a quarterback consultant, told me they’ve been together for about eight weeks. Bradford has been throwing for a little more than four weeks since being cleared by doctors.

I would imagine that two weeks from now, Bradford’s arm will be even stronger than what we saw. And it was very strong Monday.

I love Bradford as a project. I never had a doubt in my mind that he would do well at the next level.
 
None of this year's QB screams Franchise player to me. Glad we don't have to draft a starter this year.

I disagree. I see potential just oozing out of Bradford. That kid was born to be an impact player in the NFL.
 
Yeah, I think he'll do really well in the NFL. As long as the Rams build a team around him they can be a force in a few years. The Lions are in a VERY good position if Bradford is selected #1. Do they take the much heralded DT that is Suh (or even McCoy who some say is better), or trade down and collect draft picks and grab Okung to protect their franchise QB?

I agree with with you. I think the Rams will take Bradford #1 after his pro day performance. The Bucs indeed will be handed one of the 2 best dt's in the draft. They are in the sweet spot at the top.
 
Anyone concerned over the non success rate of OU QBs in the NFL...and even if his shoulder is ok for now, it just seems like he is at a higher risk for the injury to reoccur and the Rams QBs do get hit more than avg...the good thing is if he does get drafted by the Rams maybe Bulger can play decent enough so Bradford can observe but if the Rams struggle there will be pressure to throw the #1 pick into the fire...I hope he does well b/c he came back, got injured, persevered and still has a shot at being the #1 overall pick.
 
Sam Bradford is almost everything you want in a quarterback. Unlike Jimmy Clausen, Bradford will easily gain the respect of veterans and his teamates if he starts to win games and play well. As long as his shoulder is okay he should be a no-brainer.
 
I am not going to dawg on Bradford, but I feel that this is a system QB draft where years later we will be talking about a guy from the third round or later having a better career than the guys in the first round.

Eh this system Clausen played in was about as pro style as it gets in college football. It sure seems like every single other guy that is projected to go in the top four rounds fits that description though.
 
I was wondering if anyone else heard about other OU players during their pro day. I'm really looking into Chris Brown with the 6th round pick. Anyone hear how he did?

I should have been more granular in that I would not spend a high draft pick on a QB because I do not believe there will not be much of a delta between these prospects in two to three years.
 
He is the best QB to come out since Ryans. He would of/ should of been the number #1 pick lst year. I predict he's going to be really good.
