This thread is for those who would like to confess that they didn't like Matt Schaub and mainly because they thought he was Glass Joe. Please use this thread to confess it and possibly state why he has changed your mind. We are here to support you and what is said here stays here.

always liked matt. works hard, is competitive and dedicated...something our previous 'quarterback' never showed.

the only thing I don't like about Matt is the #8

The only thing I don't like about matt is the draft picks we gave up to get him. Other than that he's my guy!

Right after the trade and before his first season, I really ranted a lot on both Schaub himself and the two picks we gave up for him. I was just pissed as hell we gave up two 2nd round picks for a backup QB when we already had Sage.

Yep. I sure did. Got me some negative rep for it too. But honestly, I was sort of a troll about it, so I deserved it. LOL

In cases like this, it's nice to be proven wrong.

was he supposed to be free? i think 2 2nd round picks is more than a fair price for a Pro Bowl level QB. Look at what we spent in draft picks and $$ on Carr. Look at what other franchises spend on their QBs. Peyton. Rivers. Eli. Palmer. Ryan. All Top 3 or earlier. Tom Brady's don't grow on trees and are pretty much once in a generation.

2 2nd rounders was a steal. Period.

I like him, but at times he can frustrate me. It's been a long while since he's done that, though. He's done a much better job of getting rid of the ball quick enough to avoid sacks. I think he was only sacked twice in the final 4 weeks. He doesn't always make the best decisions but he's accurate and I feel he's grown into a leadership role with the players on the team and. He's going to continue to flourish in this offense and should see some pro bowls.

I like how he keeps his composure even in tough situations. I thought the way he would bring us back in some games, especially in Jville and Arizona. I do wish he would try to run more often to get some positive yards.

he's made some outstanding throws towards the end of the season... even hitting his receivers in stride several times. +10

I was on the Schaub train right from the start. I saw some things in him that were borne out to be true over time. Is he elite? Not just yet, but right on the cusp. He sometimes needs to make better decisions at key moments and bring his team back against the likes of the Colts or some other bigtime opponents. Look at Ari this year. Throws a pick at the worst possible time. He can be streaky and inconsistent, having one good half and one crap half. If he can clean up those things, yes he will have arrived as a true elite QB. He could also feel backside rushers a little better at times.

this year he learned to take a hit and not have a glass jaw. He erased his fumbling issues, and was much better on ball security. He finally WAS durable, my last real doubt about him.

He is definetely in the top 10 in the league imo even as it stands. He is generally accurate, seems to read defenses well and generally finds the right guy, works the deep middle beautifully, has a very good play action fake, isn't mobile but can sidestep and deliver, has a good enough arm for the out routes, and delivers what appears to be a very catachable ball for the most part. And he seems to be the leader of the team and a very hard worker.

He just needs to continue working and improve the overall consistency in his game, tighten up his decision making, and lead his team to victories over the elite teams here and there, and lead his team to a better division record.

I think it's time we started realizing that HWWNBN was wearing Matt's number, rather than the other way around! (And look at it this way - it's not like he used up any of the good seasons or anything).

Don't go talking reason to him about #8. You'll just anger him more. That #8 is like a red flag to a bull with ol' 2nd Honeymoon. Just back away slowly and don't look directly into his eyes.

I've never been one that liked trading picks away, I don't recall having a problem with what we spent on Schaub. Primarily due to what we had to deal with at the position before we got him. I did, however, begin to question his durability last season.

The one and only flaw i find in Schaub's game after all of this time, is that about 95% of the time that he rolls out of the pocket, he throws it away. It might be that the receivers can't get open, but it also might be that he doesn't have the best vision while scrambling. Given, i'd much rather him throw it away then to throw an INT, but most of the time i know that the play is dead once he rolls out.

Other than that, he is a-ok. :shades:

I dispute this take. There are plenty of times when he makes something out of nothing. Go and rewatch yesterday's game. Most quarterbacks will/can not look back across the field while on the run.

I need to retrace just a little bit. He can be pretty effective in throwing across his body and finding an open guy when going to the left, but the right side he still kind of struggles.

He did look better yesterday when doing this, but it is something in his game that could use improvement.

I beleive we gave up two #2's right? If thats the case, I think its been money well spent seeing how the first full season this guy has made it he has led the league in passing yds with 4700+.

Go ahead and pick a QB two years in a row in the second rounds with those picks and I guarentee you arent gonna get that kind of production. The guy is a really good QB and FINALLY he made it thru an entire season! Hopefully he will continue to do so for years to come.

check out the stats (assuming the trends stayed current in the injured years)

2007 QB rating - 87.2 / yds per game - on pace for 3260 yds / pass TDS - on pace for 13
2008 QB rating - 92.7 / yds per game - on pace for 4426 yds / pass TDS - on pace for 25
2009 QB rating - 98.6 / yds per game - THREW for 4770 yds / THREW for 29 TDS

You cant argue with the progress and decision making that this guy has shown over the past three years. Improved on all three of the major QB categories. I must admit that I was VERY apprehensive with him back there at the beginning of the 2009 season because so much of our success rides on his arm. He has now shown me that he can not only make it thru an entire season but play injured (JAX game). That not only shows toughness, which has been in question since day one, but it also shows passion and leadership.

Schaub has had my support since he finished a 16 game season for once and did it in fine style.
