Steve Wyche on coaching changes

http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8156bb87&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true

"Houston: This situation is as dicey as Jacksonville's. Texans owner Bob McNair has said more than once that this team will make the playoffs. It hasn't. The Texans are stacked with talent on both sides of the ball, but they can't win in the AFC South. If you don't win in your division, you don't get to the playoffs. If Houston somehow makes the postseason, coach Gary Kubiak should be safe. If not, he could be fired or forced to hire a new defensive coordinator. No top-notch coordinator will come on board, though, if Kubiak is a short-timer -- unless that person is a coach-in-waiting (Gregg Williams, Mike Zimmer). Cowher's name is very hot as a possible replacement."

Seriously? If Kubiak stays he might be forced to hire a new DC? IMO thats the best thing this coaching staff has going. If we go in another direction at HC my only regret will be seeing Frank Bush and Co. go. From the rumors we have been hearing it doesn't really sound like there is any chance Gary is gone regardless of the playoffs/outcome tomorrow. Honestly, with a little more talent in the secondary this D could be top 10 next season.

I agree 100% and actually think that if we wouldn't have gotten off to such a rough start defensively, we might possibly be there this year. We made up a HUGE amount of ground to finish where we are at in that department. I think next years D will surprise a lot of people..... or atleast fully live up to it's potential.

i can bet that guy hasnt watched many of our games this year. there is a few games where if we coulda found a way to play 2 halfs on offense we woulda won, I aint gonna put our season on the defense. lol @ that guy

we havent played GREAT on d, but in my honest opinion we have lost our games due to our offense only playing 1 half in games

It's the time of the year when all the talking heads come out and yap like they know something.

* yawn *

If you don't win in your division, you don't get to the playoffs.

That's about the only thing he got right in that commentary.

Other than that, he looks pretty uninformed about our team.

Frank Bush IS the best thing we've got going on, because the other side of the ball that's the most talented is not producing a full game each time we play.

Agreed.

And put your soap back up.
What does it mean to blank out the soap and still have "Adios Kubios" as your custom user title? Wear your soap proudly.
:D

And I like the way you said, "our team".
We may disagree on how to get there but we both want our team to go to the same place.

LaCaforna was on NFL Network this morning saying the very same thing and leaving me scratching my head. What utter nonsense.

Not only is there about a 1% chance Kubiak gets fired, Frank Bush has been absolutely stellar for us.

This goes to show how much those first three games really skewed our defensive statistics. I expect some talking heads to notice this in their studies in the offseason and use our "new and upcoming defense" as their reasoning for us to be their darkhorse (again) next year.

There is something is Jeromeo Solomon's column that hints at where they are getting this from:

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/solomon/texans/6796309.html

What are we to make of Bob McNair's refusal to publicly commit to Gary Kubiak returning as coach of the Texans in 2010?

On Thursday, McNair said Kubiak has done “a very good job,” but an end-of-the-year review will determine next year's plans.

McNair said before the season that great coaches don't go 8-8. With a loss today, the Texans will have put up three consecutive such seasons. Translation: Kubiak isn't a great coach.

And the very FIRST game took us out of the driver's seat for our playoff
appearance. Those 1st 3 games still count. They still chose to march into
the season with Ferguson, Busing, and Barber as our safeties. Bernard
Pollard fell to them via pure luck, and David Gibbs. Kubiak and Smith
are STILL responsible for the 1st 3 games, and they screwed up.

Kubiak's evaluation should be based on the ENTIRE FOUR SEASONS, without the
omission of the 1st 3 games of 2009.

Luckey that Pollard got cut. However, we signed him so this credit has go to our FO and Gibbs (more of Gibbs I think but, we signed him so some credit has to go to our FO as well).

Go Texans!!!

From the Jerome Solomon Chronic article linked above:

McNair's decision should be based on whether he believes Kubiak will lead this team to greatness in the coming years, not on today's final score.
That's how I base my opinion. And I just don't believe Kubiak can lead this team to greatness. Mr. McNair, what have you seen over the past 4 seasons to suggest otherwise?

That is exactly right! Rep coming your way.

What he said.

You gonna be mad if Mr. McNair (since we are being formal here) saw improvement where you didn't?

I think today is as important a game as any in the season, especially if we (miraculously) backdoor our way into the playoffs.

Yeah, I changed my avatar at almost 3 a.m. and was tired. Forgot about the custom user title.

Thank you for encouraging me to leave my soap up.

I'm trying to show everyone that I still have a "big picture" outlook on this team, not just trying to be a troll or something.

I can lay down my long knives for one day.

Riiiiiight.... I suspect that you're really just taking time out to sharpen them
LOL

Todays game, and how the Texans play it, is going to prove one side or the other. Well, maybe. Sort of. If the Texans are consistent at anything, it’s inconsistency. So, in keeping with their inconsistent nature, they will play four quarters of football and win today. :)

It won't change any minds. Maybe a few. But no wide-sweeping reversal of opinion.

Because if a person could tolerate the divisional losses, and the inability to capitalize on our favorable schedule, then a potential loss to the Pats can't be that big of a deal.

Unless this team just lays a huge, huge turd out there.

I look forward to watching our defense, especially Cushing/Ryans/Pollard.

I like your attitude GP. Try this.

Tell yourself that every time you feel the urge to post a criticism of Kubiak today you will take a shot/drink instead.

That way you are either sober (relatively -- I didn't say you couldn't drink at other times) and loving the win, ready to get hammered this afternoon. Or you are passed out drunk so the loss doesn't hurt for a day.

It's gonna be pretty damn funny if Belichek pulls his one step too clever act and blows it on 4th and 2 again.

LOL. Not a bad idea.

I don't think my wife and kids would be thrilled with this type of coping mechanism, though.

Maybe a good glass of rum and Coke as the game begins would mellow me a little bit and smooth out the rough edges that have developed on me the past few weeks.

Are you a doctor? Or do you just play one on message boards? LOL.

McNair has said, several times publicly, that great coaches don't go 8-8, and that "8-8 isn't good enough."

Everyone is so smug about Kubiak returning next year, but we need to be prepared for the possibility - even if it's a slight chance - of him being fired. If we hit 8-8, McNair just might pull the plug.
