Does anyone remember this beautiful moment?

Remember when Carr was suppossed to be good? Man did he ever fall apart.

That stadium was crazy loud! I had never seen that before because it was before i was a texans fan. Nice post.

He played well at times the first 2 or 3 years, flashed his talent and made some plays, but the Texans (specifically Capers & crew) ruined Carr, totally let him down. But like you said you weren't a Texans fan then, so you didn't know.

Ya it wasn't until about the 3rd year that i started following the Texans because of Domanick Davis and AJ. Now i'm hooked as a fan for life. Before I only watched CFL (ya laugh all you want, I still love it).

He peaked in 2004.....then when young players either become a good pro or fall off........he regressed horribly in 2005 and it was clear he just didn't have it and was never going to have it.

Hate aside, the guy did have great GREAT! physical tools. He had the size, the mobility, and a rocket launcher for a arm......he just didn't have the stuff between the ears or the dedication/love for the game to become a great QB. He might've became a decent starter if he was like a 3rd round pick and was allowed to sit where he could've learned what it takes to be a pro....but starting for a expansion franchise that was ran by dimwits snuffed out any little chance he did have at becoming a decent NFL starter.

I sincerely believe Carr is a classic example of someone blessed with all of the gifts you look for in a prototypical QB, but he had ZERO passion for the game. He would rather be doing something else, but the money sort of forced him into following the path where his ability took him.

This is how I always felt about Carr.

It also bothered me that Carrs dad attended evey practice. It was a sign.

I wonder how many practices Unitas,Montana,Aikman or Bradys dads attended?

Carr and his family were never able to seperate college from the NFL... In the NFL, during the football season you have to set your private life aside during the season and throw yourself into your profession (especially if you're a QB.....a QB needs to work "coach's hours".

It goes back to Carr and his daddy's promise to not cut their hair until they win back to back games. WHO the hell does that in the NFL?

Carr treated it like a 9 to 5 job...as soon as practice was over he punched the clock and went home and didn't report back until the rest of the players did. Good NFL quarterbacks are the first to arrive and last to leave, then when they get home, they're watching hours of tape.

I actually got choked up watching this. I cried like a baby throughout this game. I couldn't speak for days after the game from screaming and crying.

Thanks dearly to whoever posted this video.

Nice to see the old "mouth breather" doing his thing...

Great Game.

Btw I never got over the whole daddy at practice thing either.

I remember this was uploaded a few years back. I think it was swisherHOU who originally uploaded it, but I don't remember. YouTube took it down. But I'm glad to see it back. :)

I sincerely hope Monday Night is as loud as that game was!
This team will NEED its fans to close out this playoff run.
The last time Reliant was THAT packed was during the Jets
game.

I watched Eric Winston's blog, and N.D. Kalu yesterday, and
learned this team is FINALLY past "moral" victories. N.D. said
the plane ride was quiet, as the team went to Indy to WIN, and
they took that loss REAL HARD. Winston said that the team would
have left Indy feeling good after a game like that a couple years ago.

They are just not "that kind of team" anymore.

I heard that too, it made me feel a lot better about this teams attitude.

As far as the game, I still bust out my DVD every once in awhile, and watch it. Its one of my favorite sports moments of all-time. A win over any other team would have been nice, but beating the Girls, just made it so much better!

I still have 10 copies of this:

Then theres this, lol.

I remember that game well. Kinda well. I was a HEAVY drinker then and the group I was watching with decided on having a drinking game during the broadcast. Everytime they made a reference like "Texas shootout" or anything stereotypically Texan we drank. Bad idea. The video on the link to start this thread is much clearer than I remember the actual broadcast. What a night! (I think) :shots:

That game (and the first couple seasons, honestly) highlights how loud the stadium used to get. These days, it seems that people have toned it down. Worse, they act like they don't know when to cheer. It would be nice if Texans fans got back to making the place rock when the defense is on the field and quiet as a church when the offense is on the field. I remember games where I could hear Carr's signals, and then making so much noise the opposing offense couldn't function.

On the first play "Look at the blocking by this offensive line, he's got all day".

dont get it twisted Carr was like the 3rd most sacked QB in the history of the NFL !!!!

THats why i think we should really consider getting rid of Chester pitts

I really liked our left tackle. What was his name again? Boselli-Salaam-Pitts-Wand-Black?

Ahhhhh....watching that brings back some memories.

That was the 1st football game I watched since the last *HOUSTON* Oilers game. In between Houston teams, I met my future ex wife. She found out that night just how much of a Houston sports die hard I am. She had no idea until that night and thought it was just a one time thing being a new team and all.

8 years later still have a great, albeit up and down, relationship with the team I love! I feel that I got the better end of the deal in the long run! :bender:

Yeah, makes me well up. Think about how far we have come talent wise since.....Corey Bradford, Jonathan Wells, Billy Miller, Carr, etc.....

I love this team!!!!

What's the point of this? The past is the past...make the playoffs and that will be a beautiful moment, finish above .500 and that will be a beautiful moment.

as the official former biggest fan of DC here......" Meeeemmmmories...from the corners of my mind" Yeah he was my favorite...so what. I thought he played with heart and passion and he could take a hit. I believed and was proven right that the team's loosing was to be bleamed on the vanilla defense of Richard Smith and the gutless perfomaces of Petey Faggins. We got rid of Both and now have a decent o-line and well lookie there team does better. DC got a rawl deal if you ask me.

It was a beautiful moment just like the moment you lose your virginity. When that happens for you one day, you'll want to remember it fondly. ;) <pun intended>

Just because we are playing some amazing football and have a chance for the playoffs, is no reason not to remember some of the great things that happened to this franchise. Beating the Cowboys for our first win? Hell. All Time.

Dude, HWWNBN played one year with Smith and in 6 wins had 4 total TD's. His suckage was not new at that point. Put it down, walk away.

Never in the history of this team, has that game meant less to me. I'm not taking away from it because my god!, what an awesome night, but the future is so much brighter...

I think I did put it away once I peeled off the Carr name plate of my jeresy...notice yet another thread on this subject not brought up by me....I am just sayin.

Awwwww a sweet memory!! I still miss my favorite TE! Billy Miller will always own a place in my heart!

fixed it for you ;)

Great way to open the season.....Then the next week, Junior Seau & SD stomped a mudhole in us and we got a glimpse of what we were to see from Carr and the texans for the next 4 years...

Still think that he would've been okay if he weren't subject to what he was in his 1st 2 years..

I spent a lot of time/posts combating overstatements about HWWNBN. But he wasn't ruined by the Texans, their OL or anything else. As time and stories have passed we have a picture of a QB who won't commit the time, who frankly can't see the field in between the hashmarks (could Schaub be the anti-HWWNBN? - he loves the middle of the field, but I digress) and when it comes down to it, simply wouldn't study the game of football. Great athlete who :roast: simply won't apply himself enough to become the player his body would let him be.

I respect your opinion i-cak, but that's just too simplistic. There's no doubt he wasn't putting in the time necessary to become great, but you can't deny that the front office and their drafting didn't help him any. How many of those drafted players are even still in the NFL let alone starting for someone? In addition, the FA pick ups (which still continues to be a problem today) were terrible.

Also, we know that an oft-sacked qb tends to not look downfield after a while..(ben rothlisberger being the exception) and can you blame Carr when you've got guys like seth wand and milford brown blocking for you? Like someone else said in here, what little chance he might've had to become a decent starter, the FO yanked away from him in his 1st couple of years with their drafting and scheme decisions.

OK, call it simplistic if you will. I spent tons of time and posts nipping the edges off the HWWNBN-haters. In the end, he proved them all correct. Capers/the team didn't help him but when it comes right down to it, HWWNBN didn't help himself. Sure on some other team he might have been better but end of the day he sucked.

At some point you have to face it. It wasn't the team, it wasn't the OL - they may have all contributed, but he sucked. Plain and simple - he sucked.

I think its so funny to listen to everyone complain about how we should have taken a LT or anybody else at this point. After game 1, there wasn't a single person who didn't beleive that David Carr was going to be face of this franchise for the next decade plus.

And jus tthink, if we had taken McKinnie or Peppers or someone with #1 in 02, do you really think we wouldn't have taken a QB with our 1st pick in 2003? Guess who that would have been....yup, Byron Leftwich. That means no AJ, and yes Byron. Maybe the Jags draft AJ. Maybe we win too many games in year 1 and we pick 8th and miss out on both and end up with Bryant Johnson (hte next WR taken) or Kyle Boller.

Hindsight is a nasty temptress. Always makes you regret decisions. It didn't work out, but given Carrs resume and his "raw skills" I think the Texans made the only pick they really could have at that point. What better way to generate interest and loyalty with a franchise than to spend your #1 overall on a guy with a ton of potential. And it worked. We still have Carr apologists on here today.

And it got us AJ in the following season

thanks to Detroit for going with the local boy rogers in front of us in 2003

I don't even want to think about it :truck:

The short answer is "yes".
Troy Aikman took a flat out beating his first year in the league.
Warren Moon set the record (at the time) for being sacked his first year or two with the Oilers.
They sucked it up and did what it took to get better.
HWNSNBM never did.
And no matter how rough or sheltered your beginning as an NFL QB, you won't reach your "potential" (that's gotten to be such an ugly word) if you don't put in the extra work. Even in the beginning, HWNSNBM never showed an inclination to do that. Ultimately, he is responsible for his failures.

Watching this clip is surreal. I almost felt like I was waiting for #8 V.1 to live up to half of his potential all over again. Strange. Almost as strange as him having 'all day' to make the throw.

The real question that I have when looking at this picture, is why Matt Millen gets to do ANYTHING related to football. Especially broadcasting games. Does ANYONE take his analysis seriously. I don't believe it's apples and oranges. He obviously is oblivious about talent, why the hell is he calling games?

If Matt Millen walked up to me right now and said, "Hey, you know the sky is blue today." I would have to automatically believe that the sky is purple that day. What a joke!

:choke:

Troy aikman was *NEVER* a good QB when he didn't have blocking either, he probably had one of the most prolific OL's in their period of ownage. After that OL got disbanded, and he started getting blasted at the end of his career he would not stand in and take the hit..
