Your top 5 QB's.... lets say over the last 5 years.

Just kind of a fun thing to see how close people's opinions are.... I did this on the Steelers and Colts forum.... One guy on the Steelers website lost sleep because I put Hasselbeck as number 5... he couldnt believe I didnt have big ben in there lmao... said I have no knowledge of football hahaha... None the less dont be shy... Its opinions, so if you think Alex Smith from the 49'ers should be there then by god put him down lol... Here is my list in order.

1. Peyton Manning
2. Tom Brady
3. Drew Brees
4. Brett Favre (had an extremely good year in 07)
5. Matt Hasselbeck

Number 5 is kind of a tie between Eli, Warner and Hasselbeck....

I would never put big Ben in there.... I think he is so over rated its not even funny.... but again just my opinion.... on the Colts forum he made everyone's list I think but mine.

I'm not a fan of the 'he's got rings, therefore is automatically a good QB' school of analysis....but that said, Big Ben has been a huge reason for the Steelers have won it all in the past few years. I'm taking him over Favre or Hasselbeck.

I'm voting....

1.) Peyton
2.) Brady
3.) Roethlisberger
4.) McNabb (hasn't had many full 16 game seasons, but has performed well, and 2004 was a monster year for him)
5.) Brees
 
Mcnabb is a good QB but he has been injured alot which really hurts a QB in my opinion.... matt schaub is a really good QB but he misses so much time it will prevent him from anyone thinking he is an amazing QB.... Mcnabb also fumbles alot, as well his accuracy is not the greatest... But none the less he is a solid QB and gets the job done.. He seems to get hot at just the right times. A very good QB worthy of a top ten list same with Carson Palmer but not good enough for a top 5 for me.... But lots of them over on the Colts forum picked Mcnabb as well. If he has another good season this year I might just rethink my list :P
 
I think it's pretty clear that Manning and Brady are 1-2. You could switch 'em either way you want, I suppose, but I'd personally take Manning. I think if you switched Manning and Brady, Manning would have three rings and Brady one. It's a team sport, and Manning has had some very iffy defenses to carry.

After that, over the past five years? Hmmm ....

3. Drew Brees has over 16K yards over the past 5 years, 139 TDs, and 68 INTs. His lowest completion % during that time was 64.3. I'll take it. I really don't think anyone below him on my list slings the ball better than he does.

4. Carson Palmer - this is one of those "when healthy" things, though not to the extent that some others are. Palmer's missed time due to a serious injury, but when he's in there, he's really good. This is a QB that I would like to see go to another team, because no one should be cursed to play for the Bengals their entire career. I was even happy to see Corey Dillon get a ring.

5. Matt Hasselbeck - this guy is a notch above game manager, and has had some very impressive seasons. I don't think he'll be on a list like this much longer, but over the past five, I give him the edge over my honorable mentions.

Honorable Mentions

Ben Roethlisberger - has had one good season statistically, and the rest have really been game manager years. For the Steelers, that's about all that's required, and I give him credit for doing that, but everyone points to his two rings like he's this great QB. A number of QBs could have lucked into that rookie ring, and he did just what was required last year. He takes a few too many sacks, but he has a good team around him.

Donovan McNabb - I have never been a fan of his game. I don't like his accuracy, and I don't care what his completion percentages are. People always say he hasn't had good WRs, well I say he hasn't made any good WRs. He misses way too much time for someone as highly regarded as he is, as well. That said, he has been a key component of the winning teams that the Eagles have fielded, and there's no way I'd drop him below 7 on my list.

Philip Rivers - give us another season like the last couple and he edges out Hasselbeck and he'll have the required time for this topic and shoots to #4 on my list. I hate his mouth, but love what he can do on the field.

Thats a tough call, but honestly on the Colts forums there was acctually a few who put Brees before Tom Brady.... its hard to say.... last year with the numbers Brees put up anyone can argue Brees before Brady... The only reason everyone says Tom Brady before Brees is because of his rings.... If your looking at New England and the Saints (just the team itself) The Patriots are alot better.... defensively and offensively... I think if Drew Brees had played with the Pats he would be just as successful or even more successful then Brady. Brees deep pass (in my opinion) is better and more accurate then Tom Brady's. He just doesnt have a Randy Moss to connect at the end of his passes like Brady does.

I agree he is in a great situation. The thing about Roethlisbergur is his ability to create plays and keep plays alive. What makes him great also hurts him sometimes and he ends up taking sacks. But for every sack that is his fault there is a play he makes that can only be made because of that ability.

Manning
Brady
Brees
Big Ben

Can't decide on a 5th.

But leadership is a big part of being a QB and Brady has proven to show more leadership than Brees by getting those rings(and just winning in general as we all know Brady has).

Look at Palmer and Hasselbeck's numbers. They've both been instrumental in what success their teams have had, and they've carried the load pretty well most of the time.

I respect what you said about Ben, but I just can't squeeze him in my top 5. If he were on a team like the Saints, I don't think he has the success that Brees has had. If he were on those Colts teams over the years with the crappy defenses, I don't think he has the success that Manning has had. That's not to say he is a bad QB (I'd take him over Schaub), but he's not top 5, IMO. Of course, that's what's fun about lists :)

ya good point, you are right about that... Brees does seem to care a little more about stats then winning.... I might be way off but your right .... Brady cares about winning... However it might be that Brees is just on... not that great of a team so he is just slinging it out there... He put up amazing numbers last year and the team only finished 8-8... Not even Tom Brady could change that lol :P

Ya.... I picked over the last 5 years because one good year does not make you a good QB... it means you had a good season... Chad Pennington had an excellent season last year, but I would not put him in my top 5. Any QB can have a good season, but it takes a great QB to have many good seasons. If Rodgers and Matt ryan keep putting up the numbers they did last year my list will change. But one year proves nothing to me.

I'd put Pennington's football smarts in my top 5. Too bad he has a noodle arm. If you could morph that guy's head onto Jamarcus Russell's body ..... whew!

Really?? I always thought Pennington had a pretty good arm lol... shows how much I pay attention to him when he played for the Jets :P.

I don't think that's a fair statement or how you could back it up. I think he's had to go out there and sling the ball because of the defense NO has fielded. I think he's done more then what it should take to win games. I also think he's made some of the receivers down there look better then they are.

I'll agree with Eriadoc on you can flip flop back and forth between Brady and Manning on 1-2. No disrespect to Tom, but Matt Cassel did step into the same team and did well. I'm just not sure Jim Sorgi could do the same in Indy. I mean the offense would be ok but nowhere near the machine it is with Manning.

Brees should be considered the 3rd best on the list.

I know McNabb's injury history but he's been very productive over his career and I don't know many people who've had to do it under the glare that McNabb has in Philly. This year's it's Vick being signed by the team, I'll go out on a limb this year and say he eclipses the 4,000 yard mark.

I'm having a hard time with my #5 guy. From a pure Q perspective I want to put Palmer here, but last year's absence left a bit of a hole from an otherwise nice almost 3 back to back to back 4000 yard seasons. I think if he can be back to game form this year he'll be that guy. Matt Hasselbeck has been pretty consistent as well. Philip Rivers given another good year might be that guy too.

I think a guy who deserves some recognition, I am not sure the #5 spot, but Eli Manning has done well with sub par overall talent at WR.

For a more historical comparison, Vinny and I had several conversations about putting Pennington's head on HWWNBN's body and having a hell of a QB.
 
The top three are Manning, Brady and Brees, with Brees in third and yall can argue who's one an two between Manning and Brady, but they are definatly one and two.

After those three there are some good QBs, but it's a toss up.

What about using Jeff George's, he had all the physical tools just a 10 cent head.

If you are going to discount because of injury Hasselback and Palmer have had a lot of those the last couple years.

I think if you take Kurt Warner's four best years, they rival a lot of HoF QBs, but they haven't been over the past five, and they've been spread out here and there because of injury, trades, and being the vet grooming the young guy. I do think he's one of the better QBs in the NFL, though.

Dude was only a full time starter in 1 of the last 5 years. Had a great year last year though.

I don't see how Big Ben can be left off the list. Sure he may be over-hyped but he is a gamer and is wearing two rings in his short career.
