Texans Cuts and Waiver Wire

SoCalTexanFan

Practice Squad
Any early rumors out there on who's getting cut by the Texans. I think we'll be picking up a couple of pretty good DL off the waiver. Phil and Tenn are loaded so they'll have to make moves or release a couple on each team.

Question:
If we make our cuts and then pick up a player off the Waiver wire, can we then cut that player later in the day if we see someone we prefer?

Aren't WW transactions a 24 hour deal? We could probably rescind the claim if we want something else.

All teams have to be 53 man rosters by 4 pm EDT (I think) today.

I don't think it works exactly like that. Waiver wire works in an order. It's like the draft. Worst teams give first shot and down the line. I'm not sure if the same process works on this cut. Guys with current contracts are handled differently than rookies or free agents.

Once players are cut by a team, they are eligible to be signed first by the team with the worst record in the previous season (in this case the Lions), then the second worst and so on until you get to the best NFL team. So if a player is cut and the Lions don't put a waiver out on him, he's eligible to be signed by the Rams and then the Chiefs and so on. Of course, the team that signs him can't go over the 53-man roster limit so they may have to make cuts as well to make room.

If a waived player is picked up by a team and then released again, he goes through the waiver wire process all over again.

Only players with four or fewer accrued NFL seasons enter the waiver wire. Here is the definition of an accrued season: 6 or more regular-season games in one season in which a player is on the 53-man protected roster, IR list or PUP list.

Players who have completed more than four accrued seasons automatically become free agents if they are let go at this point in the season.

This waiver wire order is reset on September 28th to reflect the current worst win/loss records in the league.

Thanks for the info. GREAT insite and much appreciated.

What ever happened to Rodrique Wright? Wasn't he considered a stud prior to coming out of college?

Absolutely. He fell hard in the draft and then got hurt his first season. He had a good game against us a few years ago. I would love for the Texans to take a look at him, granted he's healthy.

I had high hopes for Brandon Frye back in the day.

Dan Klecko, DL, Philadelphia Eagles
Undersized but great effort guy

Tommie Hill, DL, New York Giants
Out of Colorodo State so watch out :)

Chuck Darby, DL, Free Agent
Started a few games for Detroit last year.

Lydon Murtha, OT, Free Agent
Very athletic OL that a few of us liked in last years draft. Good ZB candidate.

Courtney Bryan, FS, Free Agent
Hes a safety and we need one. Dont know much of anything about him.

Brandon Frye, OT, Free Agent
Never understood why we let him go.

Rodrique Wright, DL, Free Agent
Put him on the practice squad and let him get healthy.

Do you think Jamison has a chance to make the 53 man roster?

Mario
ASmith
Barwin
Bulman
Okoye
Robinson
Okam
Cody
...... if we keep 9 DL, I think he may make it. He has a ton of potential and is already playing pretty fast out there. I think I'd like to see him make it over Nading.

I like to keep them both if we can!

Darius Walker, RB, Denver Broncos
Another X Texan released.

Graham Gano, PK, Baltimore Ravens
This guy was great in college.

We won't be able to sneak Foster onto the PS and that concerns me....Moats and Brown are locks...will we carry 4 rbs?

ive seen others say this but i dont see why arian will be a sought after pickup. hes looked promising but mostly only during camp where other teams wont have tape of him. i think he'll get cut, clear waivers & be put on the PS until brown goes down. i dont see why everyone's so worried about him getting picked off by anybody else

Jamison looked really good last night. Tough call between he and Nading.

Other teams have his college tape, remember he chose less money with us over the Saints because he saw the opportunity here. He was wanted and if the opportunity isn't here there's a chance it will be elsewhere. Not saying he's a lock to get picked up elsewhere but I personally wouldn't risk it.

You haven't been following him this pre-season, he's not been very good, 1-3 iirc.

I think it's 4pm eastern time. If that's true, we have about 25 more minutes.

Also, I was under the impression the deadline was at 6pm EST, though that is just from random things I've read, and not from any definitive source.

Yeah, you could be right. I didn't have definitive source either. I thought I saw 4pm run across the ESPiN ticker last night, but it was very brief, and I had a few cold beers under my belt at the time... :)

Brian Leonard, RB, Cincinnati Bengals

WOW I would love for us to pick this guy up. I really liked him coming out of Rutgers.

Antonio Pittman was released.

Rotoworld is saying Leonard and Dorsey both made the team. They cut both their backup FBs with the intention of Leonard filling a HB/FB role.

OK guys, I know I sound pretty lame, and out of touch, BUT, what the heck is "Texans TV?" I can't find a link if it's a website, and it's not listed on the TV channels.

Released Brink, Campbell, Evans, Arian Foster, Clark Harris, Harrison, Helms, Jamison, Jenkins, Jones, Josh Leonard, Nading, O'Neal, Parsons, Richardson, Simmons, Washburn

I missed a few others, but I think Davis was one of them I missed.
