Titans Talking To Cardinals About Boldin
Posted by Aaron Wilson on April 23, 2009, 10:47 p.m.

The Tennessee Titans are exploring the possibility of a trade for Pro Bowl wide receiver Anquan Boldin, making inquiries with the Arizona Cardinals about a prospective deal, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.

Citing sources, the report states that the two sides aren’t on the verge of striking a deal two days prior to the NFL Draft.

The Titans could definitely use a proven wide receiver to boost a dormant passing game. Tennessee recently made a bid for Torry Holt, but he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Holding 10 draft picks, the Titans are capable of wheeling and dealing to try to obtain Boldin.

“It’s safe to say we’re always trying to get the team better, so we’ll continue to monitor various situations,’’ Titans General Manager Mike Reinfeldt said. “But there’s a numbers of players that are discussed at this point and time, that’s kind of the way it works.”

Other receivers that are reportedly of interest to the Titans via trade: Braylon Edwards, Roscoe Parrish and Chad Johnson.

“There’s always that potential,’’ Reinfeldt said. “I wouldn’t rule it out. … It would have to be a situation of equity and you’d consider it then.’’

The Titans signed former Pittsburgh Steelers third wide receiver Nate Washington to a free agent deal this offseason, but want to continue to bolster their receiving corps with a potential No. 1 wideout.

It doesn't bother me a whole bunch...Don't get me wrong...Boldin is a beast and he would make their offense better...

But this doesn't worry me...

Well it worries the hell out of me. The Titans were a top team all season with no WR's except for Gage who came on well at the end. Bolden is an Elite stud WR that could help out their offense tremendously. No way do I want this to happen. Damnit come on Giants, make a move on Bolden!

I love watching Anquan Boldin play. I would hate to see him in Tennessee. We don't have a corner that could stop him.

I don't understand the fear of Boldin...

If he stayed in Zona we'd have had to face him atleast once anyways...

Besides that we still have Fitzgerald, Wayne, Gonzalez, Manning, Jones Drew, Chris Johnson and every other offensive star to worry about...

He's just one player. Does the addition of Boldin offset the loss of Haynseworth? I don't think so...

If the Texans lose to the Titans it won't be because they've added Boldin. Does he make them better? Absolutely, without question. Does one addition scare me? No. It's football. Flip the coin, lets see who's on top when we finish.

Chris Johnson getting better scares me more than Boldin.

This would be a good move for Titans (as long as they don't give up too much).

I don't like things that are good moves for the Titans.

Oh yeah, getting an ELITE WR on a team in our division that had the best record in the NFL for most of the season without any WR's is nothing to even worry about right? After all it's not like we're competing with them for the division and a playoff spot. You're right Bolden can't make them a better team at all.

Anything good that the Titans do makes it harder for us because they're in our division. Anything good that the Texans do is bad for everyone else in the division as well. The Titans don't need to prove that they're a better team than the Texans right now, the Texans will need to prove that they are a better team than the Titans. The Titans getting Bolden would mean just another thorn in the side of our ass for many years just like Reggie Wayne has been. Hopefully this doesn't happen.

What are you talking about? He never said that. In fact, he said Bolding would make them better. All NFL teams get better and worse all the time. They are constantly changing. A football team consists of 11 offensive players. Adding Bolding will help them, but its not going to make them invincible.

The Reggie Wayne argument is weak. Peyton + Wayne >>>>>> Collins + Boldin

Agree. I'd rather see them get a receiver than keep the DT of Matt Schaub's nightmares. Adding a WR like Boldin makes them better but it still doesn't make them equal to what they were with Fat Albert. Like BigBull said he can't throw the ball to himself. If we do what we need to do this year then we can deal with this. Also agree with the Chris Johnson comment. He gets a lot better and it's going to be trouble for everyone they face.

okay. That's really disturbing.

*******************************************

Meh, if they get him, they get him - so what? We need to worry about our team and not what other teams are doing. I think it's kind of a defeatest attitude to think, "Oh wow, so and so picked up so and so. We're screwed".

If Bolden can be a factor, Chirs Johnson and the whale will face fewer Ds with 8 men in the box. Making the Titan's run game evem more effective.

This has the potential to make their offense a whole harder to defend.

I agree with the comments that getting a class reciever will make the Tits a better team. But the question remains how much improvement will there be? I suspect not as much as some would fear. Collins won't be able get out of Boldin what Manning or Schaub could.

If we are afraid of the Titans getting Boulden for a 1 and 3, why not offer the same thing and put him opposite Dre and Walter in the slot? Sounds pretty nice. I'm not saying Boulden isn't good, but he has been opposite Fitz for almost his whole career. Justin gage won't keep defense's attention away from him like Fitz does.

That isn't true Bull. Bolden was already a stud in his first season where he got like 1,300 yards and was damn good every season after that. Him being on the side of Fitz makes it a little easier but I could say the same thing for Fitz as well. Bolden is a bad ass and can play well with any team.

Why doesn't anyone fear LenDale White or VY getting better?

Actually, I read in a couple of places that LenWhale had lost weight and had renewed focus for this year. I think he must have a contract coming due.

So, I do worry somewhat about LenDale getting better.

VY, not so much.

My mistake. I thought they came in the same year. I do think Fisher would be too conservative. I just don't think he would scare me with Collins under center.

Regardless, it still makes the Titans better and gives a team that doesn't have any WR's who was already really good now an Elite WR. I don't want to face Bolden twice every year for the next few years. No way.

And I'm not sure why so many fans in here all of a sudden think that the Titans are going to have some weak defense just because Haynesworth is gone. They have a lot of good defenders at multiple positions and could possibly replace Haynesworth with a guy that is still pretty good. He might not be Haynesworth, but that doesn't mean that the Titans won't find a good replacement at DT. It amazes me how people's hatred for a team makes them think that they'll be a poor team just because they dislike the team. The Titans already have a lot of quality players and aren't about to fall off any time soon.

I think I'll start to get worried when I see what 'Zona wants for Boldin from the tituns. In effect it could cancell it out, yeah they do get Boldin, but If they have to give up multiple picks they can't get better at other positions. I'll also add that Collins had freakin RANDY MOSS in Oakland and couldn't utilize him to save his life.

I really believe that if this team makes good on it's draft picks fills a few spots of concern like a RB behind Slaton, New Center, and in my dream scenario Jenkins falls to us at 15. I think they'll have to worry about us.

The Titans had this one really good year sandwiched in between a bunch of garbage and mediocreness...

I think they will be good again, but I don't think they'll be as good as last year despite the possible aquisition of Boldin..

The only teams that will consistently remain at the top are the ones with the best QB's...The Tits are not one of those teams..

They were in the playoffs the year before last and they almost made it the year before that with VY as a rookie. I could also make the same argument that they've slowly been on their way up and been getting better and better because they have. Other than losing Haynesworth, there is nothing that has happened to say that they are just going to fall off like you and a few others keep saying because you want that to happen. If they get Bolden, their offense instantly gets better. Collins was not this horrible QB last season that many of you guys make him out to be. He just wasn't a real good one. He plays it safe though and did real well at minimizing his mistakes and wasn't the TO machine that Schaub and Sage were for us in the RZ last year for the Texans.

I can't have a conversation with you when you make up stuff...Can't even argue my position because you're creating my position for me...

Whatever...

Bottom line is Boldin would make the Titans a better team and harder to beat. That's not what I want to see when our record against them has been what???

You said this.

First off that wasn't true as I pointed out. They've gotten better and better the last 3 seasons.

And other than Haynesworth being gone what else have they lost? Griffin will be in his 3rd season getting better, Gage will improve, both of their RB's should be better as well and Collins now will have the entire pre season and camp to get better in his role. Now if they get Bolden, they are contenders easily.

Chris Johnson getting better scares me more than Boldin.
Boldin makes that team better because of his rac...Collins isn't known for his deep ball. Chris Johnson needs someone on the edge to command more attention and he becomes even more dangerous since teams will have to actually deal with another player who is a threat with the ball in his hands. Right now the only real threat the team has is in their RB's. It's a synergistic thing.

Boldin does make them better. No argument from me. I even stated that.

My argument though is that I don't believe he all of a sudden makes them exponentially a better team...

And I think that boldin will still get plenty of RAC, but I also think that alot of that had to do with the offense he played in...It's much easier to catch a ball and get good rac when you consistently spread the defense and have other playmakers on the field...

When you are playing in a run first, run second, pass last offense the defense will key on you more seeing that you're the only playmaker at wideout..

But I don't wanna get into discrediting Boldins game because he IS a beast.

I guess the easiest way I can put it is that I don't think he will have the on-field impact that Terrell Owens had going to philly in that offense playing with McNabb or Moss going to NE in that offense playing with Brady.

This is not that kind of move IMO.

All those billions of passes going to the Titans average TE's start going to one of the great open field talents in the NFL....come on man. That is gonna make them a much better team.

Even though they played well last year when he was out, I think during a whole season without him people will start to see the drop off. A drop off from 12 wins is 9-10ish, so not a huge drop, but a drop none the less.

It's a synergistic thing.

Exactly Vinny. Just having him out there makes it a lot easier all around the field. People don't realize how much teams stacked the box against the Titans last season and the Titans still ran all over teams, especially in the 4th quarter. Hell I watched Chris Johnson get a lot of his TD's in 4th quarters when teams were just tired and couldn't chase him around anymore. With Bolden, it takes pressure off of the running game, opens up Gage more who really came on at the end of the season, and should make it easier for Johnson to find holes in the short pass game on screens.

I would hate if the Titans got Bolden man. Hell that would be the Jags and the Titans instantly getting their passing games better. We don't need that in what is already a competitive division with Manning and Wayne still farting around.

This should once again be a very interesting division again.

I sure as hell hope that you're right, but the Titans still have a lot of play makers on their defense. They've got a world class LB in Bullock, they've got good CB's and a great safety who is top 3 already and Vanden Bosch was hurt for most of the season last year. Don't forget about him coming back. The last thing the Texans need is for the Titans offense to get any better in the passing game.

I don't understand the term "much better team"...

I think they could be better, but does that translate into more wins?

The only way I fear this move is if you're saying that this acquisition will lead to more wins.

If you look at Philly and NE after getting TO and Moss both teams drastically increased their offensive production and win total. Of course they run completely different offenses.

Would the Titans do the same with Boldin? I dunno but I doubt it.

by much better team I mean a more diverse and more explosive offense. Yeah, with Fisher coaching that team I'd say that if you convert more 3rd downs in the passing game that makes an already good offense that much better since they are already a team that plays well in short yardage.

They don't necassarily have to have more wins Polo in order for this to make them much better, but if this simply makes their team good enough to repeat the amount of wins that they had last season would be really good for them. No one expected the Titans to be that good last season, but they were, and if they make a move like this, to me it really makes them a contender again this season right out of the gate where there not a surprise team at all this time around, and believe me the Titans having Bolden in the post season just might get them over some of the other really good teams that they couldn't get past in the playoffs last season like the Ravens who threw that great D on them. It won't be near as easy to do that with Bolden and an improved Justin Gage.

All the Cards want now is a 2nd rounder. Philly and NYG are also in the mix:

The Arizona Cardinals have reduced their trade demands for disgruntled receiver Anquan Boldin to a second-round pick in Saturday's draft and other considerations and are talking to at least three teams who seem to be newly interested, two sources told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio on Friday.

The New York Jets, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles have expressed interest given the downgraded demands from a first- and third-round pick, the sources said.

No way that it's just for a 2nd rounder. I'd like to know what these other "considerations" are. They must want a quality player as well as a 2nd rounder, because the Cards have drawn this thing out for over a year now when they probably could have had a 1st and a 3rd for Bolden.

I hope that the Eagles get him out of all of those teams, because I hate all of the teams in the NFC East other than the Eagles.

This makes me feel a lot better now. I don't think the Titans will out bid or be as aggressive as the Eagles or the Giants.

Also don't forget that Braylen Edwards is being dangled right now to both of those teams as well from the Browns so that situation could affect all of this. No matter if the Giants or the Eagles take one of these WR's it's a strong chance that the other will counter that and grab the other to compete for the top spot in the NFC East.

Tomorrow should be very very interesting.

Wouldn't that be messed up if the Patriots swooped in and grabbed him for one or two of theirs two's? Moss and Boldin together......sick!
