Texans to face Vikes on Monday Night Football

Tailgate

Fall of Hame
In preseason that is... :)

http://www.houstontexans.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=5202

In the preseason schedule released by the NFL today, the Houston Texans will host New Orleans and Minnesota at Reliant Stadium in weeks two and three. Houston will kick off the 2009 preseason with a trip to Kansas City and conclude at Tampa Bay.

Houston’s game with Minnesota on Monday, Aug. 31 will be televised nationally on ESPN at 7 p.m. CT. The Texans will host their first nationally televised preseason game in team history. It will be the fourth time in Houston’s eight years of existence that the Texans will have a nationally televised preseason game.

At least its the 3rd game and we should see the most minutes from our starters. I'll take it.

EDIT:
Houston Texans Preseason Schedule:

at Kansas City (Aug. 13-17)
vs. New Orleans (Aug. 20-24)
vs. Minnesota (Aug. 31) Monday, ESPN, 8 p.m. ET
at Tampa Bay (Sept. 3-4)

Nighmare scenario. Jared Allen takes out Schaub's knee again, Sage carves up the Texans defense to the tune of 300 yards and 4 TD's. "We Should Never Have Traded Rosencopter" threads begin appearing like mildew in a shower.

Texans sign only FA QB they can find. HWWNBN begins second stint as Texans starter.

Unfortunately, for the Giants anyway, the Giants love him for some reason and signed him to an extension.

I hope this doesn't ruin our chances of getting a regular season nationally televised game. I'm not going to lie, I'm happy and worried with this news.

I think people are thinking way too much here in terms of negativity.

Examples... the Browns played the Giants in the 3rd week in preseason on Monday night. Then played each other again in the regular season on Monday night in Oct. Not to mention the Browns were scheduled for 3 total in the regular season after that. The Packers played in preseason week 2 on Monday night, then opened up the regular season on Monday night. In fact, only 3 of the 8 teams to play on ESPN in pre-season last year did not make a real Monday night game.

Wasn't last year's preseason game against the Cowboys nationally televised? I remember watching it on CBS with Ian Eagle and Phil Simms as the announcers.

Edit: Nevermind. It says host a nationally televised game.

I agree. There were so many bad teams that became good last year that there may not be enough room for the Texans. You know the Dolphins, Falcons, 49ers and Cardinals will get primetime games. Add to that the regular teams that always get national exposure and the number of slots for the Texans becomes small.

I do think, however, the Texans will get one nationally televised game. It may be an NFL Network game, but at least it's something.

The team should give out battle red beanie hats with the helicopter propeller blades in them.

Does anyone know when the regular season schedule gets announced. I'm pretty sure it should happen next week. I think it traditionally happens in the first half of April.

What we have going for us is big games vs. Indy, Titans, NE at home, Jets at home, and we do play the Dolphins, 49ers, and the Cardinals... 3 of the 4 teams you mentioned. And we are going to continue to be the trendy pick to break out this year. Oh, and I definitely think we did our part last year against Jax... the crowd, the party, and the play. I see a couple of Nat Televised games for us.

I think last year they initially said it would be released on April 5th but then it got pushed back to the 18th or around that time. As for this year, I haven't heard anything. Anyone?

True. I think we may have a primetime game against the Cardinals, Titans, and Indy. NE is a possibility, too. We'll see. I'm hoping we get a Sunday Night Game at home.

Last year it was the 15th or 16th of April, because I remember it coincided with my girlfriend's and mine two year anniversary and she caught me checking it out on my phone while we were out at dinner :embarrass

Nightmare?!?

Dude, you left out the part where fire rains down from the sky and demons roam the earth eating the carcasses and 100 days of darkness and such....

Last year it happened on Tuesday, April 15. This year it will probably happen on Tuesday, April 14. Usually both NFL Network and ESPN have special NFL schedule programming, so we'll know the exact date when their television program schedules are updated.

I don't think we'll get the Cardinals or 49ers on national TV. There's no history or rivalry with those teams. You could put NE with anybody and call it a potential national TV game. I think the Jets would be a perfect matchup for a primetime game, especially if Cutler is their QB.

Fingers crossed you are right and we get a couple of national TV games.

Our lack of history and rivalry with any team really is what definitely works against us.

If I had to rank em for potential National TV games it would go like this:

1) Titans @ home or on road
2) NE @ home
3) Colts @ home or on road
4) Jets @ home
5) Bills on road
6) Arizona on road - sounds weird... but kind of an interesting matchup between two of the best WRs in the game. One break out team from last year and a possible one for this year.

this could be a good thing...I hope! Either way, we don't get Texans preseason games down here unless they're nationally televised...so I'm psyched!:shades:

Have you read this somewhere or are you just speculating? I've had a feeling Colts/Texans would have a prime-time game this year after the game last year... :gun:
Just speculation. In Houston, the Titans and Texans have had some good finishes the past 3 years and the way the Jaguars laid an egg last year, Tennessee might be our best shot at a primetime game next season.

Previous schedule release dates:

05 - Apr. 13
06 - Apr. 6
07 - Apr. 11
08 - Apr. 15

Im happy with the pre-season schedule.

Im sure plenty of Saints fans will invade once again and can never complain about a MNF or SNF game!

I'm getting my battle red beanie ready....the MNF fans across the Nation should see our sea of red helicopter hats.

National exposure is nice, but, I detest Monday night games. Difficult for folks getting off work, traffic is a nightmare, messes with tailgating. Getting National exposure for a preseason game means absolutely nothing to me, esp against the Vikes. I bet the stadium is half empty.

all the hats should make for a little breeze in the stadium. It may not be as stuffy.

Yeah, it makes me have to use vacation days, but that's what I have them for. Sure the traffic's bad, but IIRC, they opened the gates 35 minutes early for our last Monday nighter. That doesn't mess with my tailgating other than this one will be in the August heat and not in December.

In any case, I'll be there and can't wait to sweat my ass off for a lame-o pre-season game.

Oh, I'll definitely be there! Thank goodness we have self scheduling at my job, so I don't have to worry about taking a vac day. I might even look for one of those beanies Vinny posted! At least we can have a little fun!:tiphat:

That is the absolutely most smashing idea and stroke of absolute genius I've seen in awhile. While not particularly attractive, goodness knows it would be fun to see a mass of fans wearing them.

I concur, slap a horn on each side and we may have a silly novelty that takes on its own personality. :texflag:
