We Have A Great O.........

Playoffs?! You wanna talk about... Playoffs?! I just want to win another game... Playoffs?!

Now if we just get the D on the right track. Can you say playoffs?:d::d::d::texflag::texflag::texflag:

Great is a little strong, but we have a quality NFL offense that (barring silly turnovers) is good enough to win with most weeks.

Before this season got started, in one of the many prediction threads, I said that if we actually improved our running game we might have a shot at the playoffs. Well, we've gone from (2007) from 22nd in the league in rushing with a 99 ypg average to (so far this year) to 15th in the league with a 114 ypg average. Yet we will not end up with as good a record as we did last year with an improved offense because the defense sucks so badly.

If there's any player on offence that you think we need besides another RB and QB what would it be?

Other than those two, a good lineman or two. We certainly don't need to be using up draft picks and free agent money on more recievers or tight ends.

This is a finesse offense that looks good (not great) when facing weak defenses. But folds against a strong, physical defense. It's an offense designed to win games in the regular season, and lose in the playoffs. Except, they turn the ball over too much to win in the regular season.

The '08 rushing offense is better than the '07 rushing offense only due to Steve Slaton's big play ability. They still can't run the ball on a consistent basis. I don't know if it's because of playcalling, the blocking scheme, personnel, or what. First and goal, and the Texans call a pass. That's all I need to know about how Kubiak thinks of his run game.

The Texans need an upgrade at Center (main breakdown point against strong Defenses), a main workhorse RB for Slaton to compliment, and Schaub to stay healthy and prove he is the man and not turn the ball over with the pieces in place. We would then have a very good shot at being great.

You don't think that the Colts have a decent D and we did put up points against them?

come on now i agree we have a good offense but the colts d is not a measuring stick for sucess. how bout tis, i cant say we havent played good ENOUGH to win on offense when we have played good d, but our run game sure did disappear against good run d's, and if we want to be a GREAT offense
like you said, our oline has got to have a little changeup. we will continue to beat up the losers and get beat up by the winners runnin the ball

I agree but you do know that our O is ranked fourth or 5th in the NFL?

Matt Cassel or Mike Vick

just say No to Mike Vick.....i wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Cassel if we can sign him to a Schaub-like deal where we can get out relatively scotfree if things dont work out after 2 years. Schaub will probably have to reneg his contract if he wants to be back in 2009...and I doubt he will. He could just go into Free Agency if we were to cut/release him....and Schaub has done enough to get paid even with his injuries. Teams will think their line can protect him better or that his injuries are flukes.

i do realize that, but look at how we performed against good run defenses,
we can pass on most teams but we can run on half and it aint cause ofslaton. its our o line, we will NOT become great until our o line has changes

Do you mean new OL players or a new scheme or both?

Gary, I believe our scheme is correct....like you said we have 4th 5th offense in the league WITH2 diff qb's, we dont need to change much. duane, pitts, winston aint goin nowhere. the other 2 are where we are weak. i dont have a problem wit our zone scheme. it'll get better.

I'm not at all sold on Matt Cassell. First, he hasn't exactly been lighting it up this year. He's had one great game, a couple of good games, and a bunch of very average to below average games.

Secondly - think about the situation he was dropped in to. It's a team that was 17-1 last year. Not saying that he won't turn out to be good - but if we're going to get a new QB, I'd rather us look elsewhere.

But I would take Cassell over Vick.

very true

on a side note ..title of thread makes me think of that clip from "office space" :joker:

Personally I would take Jeff Garcia or Kurt Warner over either and then draft a young guy to develop.

It's too bad we couldn't have picked up Warner before this season. He gets rid of the ball quickly and has a strong arm. Schaub's injuries are not a reflection of him; they happen to every quarterback (except Manning) at some point. Separated shoulders from getting squashed by 330 pound nose tackles that obliterated your weak offensive lineman and torn knee ligaments from cheap low blows by POS pass rushers will take anyone out. It's not like he broke his pinkie (oh wait, that put Romo out for four weeks).

Center and right guard need to be upgraded for more physical play. Myers and Brisiel are smart but struggle against bigger D-linemen.
