STEVE SLATON, TEXANS

When he was drafted, the 5-9, 201-pounder from West Virginia looked like a potential third-down back. But with Ahman Green sidelined by a knee injury, Slaton got the start in the Texans' second game, against Tennessee, and he ran for 116 yards and a touchdown. He's started the past three games and leads Houston with 285 rushing yards.

Anyway, I'm trying to remember how many 100 yard rushing games Reggie
Bush, now in his third season and an NFL vet by now, has accomplished in his NFL career ? You know, just wondered, meant nothing by it.
 
Still the same as Slaton. Slaton's fallen off, he's only gotten to the 100 yard benchmark in one out of three starts.

100 yards means nothing. The metrics that result in 100 yards are what matters. How many carries did he get? How many yards per carry did he get?

Slaton has 57 carries for 285 yards, for a 5.0 YPC average.
 
The beauty of the Slaton pick is that we basically got him as a bonus for trading down to get Duane Brown. I mean thats a great 2 man combo for our original first round pick.

Good point. And from most accounts, young Duane is holding his own, though he's had a really difficult introduction to the NFL. I mean dang, he starts his career in the pros with James Harrison, Van den Boshe (whatever the krouts name is), & Dwight Feeney. How could it be tougher ? The learning curve for the young LT can only become less steep.
So far, the way he handled converting the 18th pick into Duane B. & Slaton, nothing but kudoes to Rick Smith.

Yessssir. They are definitely getting the job done in the draft as far as I can tell at this point. The verdict is out on quite a few of them... but overall the talent level on this team is dramatically rising.

As far as the RB situation goes. I think we will be near unstoppable in the future if we get another good RB to take the main load. While that may very well be Slaton, think about having a great 1 2 combo and Slaton as a standard RB, a decoy, and an electric pass catcher out of the backfied.. With Green actually producing this past Sunday, I saw a glimpse of our future and it is good.
 
interesting that Felix Jones is leading the fan ballot box "For Most Successful Career" & he is being used mostly as a 3rd down back option.....:thinking:
