Lane Kiffin fired

he's such an *****. How many coaches in how many years is that now? You gotta give a coach longer than that, especially when they're trying to fix what is already broken.

EDIT: the word above shown as ***** is pronounced "it-e-it". is that a bad word now?

no but several years ago I took out the word idiots (without the s - you can spell it plural) & most of the personal attacks dropped. It is hard to sound credible calling someone an idiots.

Thanks for the heads up. Well Al Davis is such an idiots! :spit:

Rome said that Kiffin was fired over the phone by Davis. He also said Kiffin was fired WITHOUT pay.

I feel sorry for Kiffin as well as the entire Raiders Nation. That guy is a complete joke.

Kiffen have any experience as a Defensive Coordinator? :stirpot:

Lane was an offensive coordinator for USC before the Raiders. His father on the other hand.......let me just say, I would pee in my pants if we ever landed him.

IMO, he ranks right up there with the LeBeau's, Johnson's and the Ryan's. :)

Good luck with trying to fire the guy without pay .. he is under contract and he will sue Al and the Raiders Organization.

If you're a coach, why in the hell do you even take that job? i mean, the raider mystique has long since passed & at this point, Vince Lombardi couldn't even turn around these recent raider teams in 1 year.

Someone needs to put that old geeser out of his misery & tell him to stop wearing hot ass sweat suits in august/september!

Rumor is offensive lne coach Tom Cable will take over as head coach. I'm very interested to see how that works out.

Other than the 4th quarter, the Raiders have actually looked pretty good these past few weeks. With another year and the ability to control his own squad, I bet Kiffin could actually do something. I personally think Ryan was trying to undercut him

why would he need to do that when he knows the ol' bag of bones was probably gonna fire the dude in a year anyway.

I'm watching the live press conference on NFLN.

Al Davis looks so much like a zombie that I just had to wiki him to see how old he really is.

Do ya'll believe he's only 79?!

you take the job if you're someone like Lane Kiffin; a young coach who has no reason at all to be a head coach in the NFL, and won't likely get such an offer in another decade. Kiffin just COULDN'T turn it down.

i don't fault him for taking it. he's a good coach, but he's a ways off from being NFL ready. he's still got a ways to go before being ready to head a college team. remember, Davis went through like 15 guys before settling with Kiffin.

Maybe 179, but definitely not 79. Seriously, being a Raiders fan for all these years, seeing coaches come and go, Kiffin was the only coach for a while that I thought the Raiders actually had a chance with. Al gave Kiffin a broken team, and Kiffin did his best with what he was given, and the Raiders started to look better too, but now, its back to phase 1 all over again. I can easily see Raiders losing most of not all of their games this season.

Even though these last two games the Raiders lost, I saw them playing with heart and motivation, something I have not seen for years. I think most of these players on the Raiders started to connect with Kiffin too, and now that he's gone, it will be the same old BS "playing for money" attitude that I have been used to previously.

I hope Al learns from his mistakes and gives Kiffin his position back, but I would be stupid to think that would ever happen.

Anybody see Al Davis' press conference.

His glory days are surely behind him. I felt embarassed for him just by watching it.

davis has done a lot for the NFL but one day he needs to realize that the NFL has done a lot for him. he thinks he can play by his own set of rules and that he can make them up as he goes along. sadly, his arsenal of lawyers have rarely let him down and you can blame our convoluted legal system for that.

one thing is for sure. any decent HC candidate just scratched the Raiders off of their wish list of jobs. Who would want to coach for an owner who would pull a stunt like this. just pay the guy and take your billions in television contract money. i want to like the guy because of his history and because he really does want to win and does know football, but the guy is either the worlds biggest ahole, senile, or both.

Did anyone else find it interesting that Al Davis said Kiffin didnt want Russell? I assume he wanted Joe Thomas or Calvin Johnson.

Davis tried to make it sound like Kiffin was more interested in if he was gonna get paid, than why he was being fired.

Also did anyone understand what specifically Davis was firing Kiffin for? Was it that Al Davis was unhappy with the team, or that Kiffin was being shady about stuff?

I don't know about that kast...

I can see your point about kiffin taking it b/c the opportunity arose, but many people think that kiffin was on the right track with the team he just needed more talent & he surely needed a bit more time to turn around that joke of organization. I think he'll easily land another head coaching job, fairly soon too if for nothing else...sympathy for the way davis did him. Whether that's in the college or pros is another story.

Al Davis nowadays reminds me of Mayor Adam West from Family Guy. He's just a paranoid loonytoon, his pet pigeon probably told him that Kiffin was planning on rallying the team together to start a mutiny.

I wonder if he tried to dispose of Kiffin with his malcontent trap door, then enjoy some taffy.

Actually Kiffen was the qb coach. Al Davis is so dumb he didnt know this before he hired the guy. Steve Sarkesian (sp) was the off coord and still is. Sarkesian took over when Norm Chow went to the Tenn Traitors.

Wrong. Sarkisian replaced Kiffin

In 2005, he was promoted to offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator, in addition to continuing as the wide receivers coach.

Al tried to hire Steve but was turned down.

Steve Sarkisian was the Raiders QB coach in 2004 (Which probably explains why he was offered the job before Kiffin). He left in 2005 and went to USC to be the Asst. Head Coach with responsibility for the QB's. That was the same year that Lane Kiffin was promoted to USC Offensive Coordinator, replacing Norm Chow who had gone to be the OC for the Tacks. Kiffin never had the title QB coach for USC, although he was the Passing game coordinator in 2004

When Kiffin left USC to take the Raiders job, Sarkisian was given the title offensive coordinator, in addition to retaining the Asst. Head Coach title.

The pecking order isn't clear (at least not to me), but both were on staff during 2005 & 2006, with Lane Kiffin as the OC, and Sarkisian as Asst. HC and QB coach.

From PFT......

I think Davis is a dead ringer for Jigsaw from the "Saw" movies:

Makes sense, Al Davis does seem to enjoy torturing Raiders fans

that was a hell of a spectacle by Davis, good lord

LOL. I didn't see it. I am having so much fun just reading everyone's thoughts on it. Feels like I have seen it.

Al Davis....boy howdy, he must drink a quart of embalming fluid every day. I want to join the Raiders board and do a poll: Raiders fan, are you hoping Al Davis will die (1) Soon, as in TODAY ; (2) In a little while, as in TOMORROW ; or (3) At the end of this season.

I bet it'd be 95% ; and 5% on the results.

I thought this was cool:

LANE KIFFIN STILL GIVING ADVICE: Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell must have shocked interm coach Tom Cable and owner Al Davis when he disclosed this week that fired coach Lane Kiffin contacted him Monday night to give him some tips.

"He just called and talked to me about the (Saints) defense," Russell said, "things he would do if he was here. So really nothing changed. He's got a lot of off-time on his hands, so he would pay attention to the defense I would have to go up against, leaves me a text message or a voice mail here or there."

Well, if you did post a poll like that you would be banned lickety split. Although no one is thrilled with the state of the Team it truly is wrong to wish death upon anybody. That includes Al Davis.
The truth lies somewhere in the middle. Davis is very hard to work for but Kiffin had the best of the best to consult with in regards to working with Davis. I am speaking of Jon Gruden. I am sure Jon told him a thing or two. I think Kiffin thought he could change the old man. He was wrong.
Kiffin was no amazing coach. Far from it. On gameday his playcalling was far from stellar and his game management just plain stunk. If he had been your teams coach, without all the controversy, you would have been calling for his head.
Kiffin also did some crazy things such as take a knee when you have 40 ticks left on the clock at the end of the half. WTF? Take a shot. What could it hurt? Same game, ended the game with 2 timeouts in his pocket. Never used 'em. I find those 2 examples puzzling. And certainly not an example of good coaching.
Who knows what the future holds. But I will never jump ship.

I feel for the Raider fans. I really do.

Its got to be hard (as we've seen) for many years to be fully into your team, when somehow it self-destructs right before your eyes. The tuck had to have been the most devastating thing to a fan base ever.

Well, duh, Dante. LOL. What are ya gonna do though?? I just plug away and tailgate my ass off! The Raiders were there before I was born and they will be there after I die. There isn't much I can do about what goes on. I am just loyal to a fault, ya know?:pirate:
