Goodbye Tom, Drew, Matt, Ben, Philip, Aaron, Eli ... hello young guns.
So in just the last five seasons we've seen nearly half of the league turn over their starting QB duties to a pretty large array of fresh arm (and leg) talent, from the 2014 draft onward and all no more than 27 years old. I don't doubt if I took the time to break down other generations of QB classes there would be similar developments, but it seems anyway like a rare occurrence of so much focused talent displacement all at once.
Anywho, how would you rank the following young signal callers based simply on who you would have confidence in running your teams offense from now moving forward..
(in alphabetical order here)
Josh Allen
Blake Bortles
Derek Carr
Sam Darnold
Jimmy Garoppolo
Jared Goff
Patrick Mahomes
Marcus Mariota
Baker Mayfield
Dak Prescott
Josh Rosen
Mitchell Trubisky
Deshaun Watson
Carson Wentz
Jameis Winston
(my list spoilered so folks can create their own first and compare later)
If my tier 2 guys blossom the right way it should be a well exciting time to be a football fan for years to come with close to a dozen teams with budding championship level QB play at their disposal. Fun stuff.
Come on fellas, rank em up..

tier 1 - these guys are loaded and look destined to lead the league in nfc/afc champ game contests for years to come
Patrick Mahomes
Carson Wentz
Jimmy Garoppolo
Deshaun Watson
Jared Goff
Mitchell Trubisky
tier 2 - juries still out but the talent seems there. development and maturation will be key
Baker Mayfield
Josh Rosen
Derek Carr
Sam Darnold
tier 3 - these guys I think are thoroughly limited in one aspect, or several, that keeps them from achieving champion status
Dak Prescott
Jameis Winston
Josh Allen
Blake Bortles
Marcus Mariota
No doubt I'll get stick for my Watson placement, but I hope this doesn't become merely about him as it's an NFL discussion and I think he's terrifically talented enough to win a SB. Just happen to think a couple guys might be more well rounded by even the slimmest of margins. I believe he belongs in elite company here.
