Yahoo Sports Mock draft No. 3

Texan Asylum

Hall of Fame

8. Houston Texans – LaRon Landry, safety, LSU. The addition of running back Ahman Green gives them a legitimate weapon in the backfield, and it would be interesting to see what would happen if Quinn were still on the board. They are hoping to have Charles Spencer (knee injury) back on the offensive line, and they added playmakers at defensive line and linebacker a year ago in the draft. As a result, they can turn their attention to a secondary that has been lacking a true playmaker since the franchise's inception. Landry is exactly the type of instinctive, aggressive defender they need to patrol the secondary, and his lights-out workout at the NFL scouting combine certainly raised his stock...

I love the LaRon pick, but what if Quinn is still on the board? This is going to be a drama filled draft to say the least.

This is what i'm hoping for, unless AP is available. Landry is a pure stud. Our D will wreak havoc if we add this dude.

Landry is growing on me, but I would still like to move down if we think we can get him at 11-13 range.

I'd love this. I don't think we would be able to get him 11-13. There's a chance he may not be available at 8 too. But I do think we could get a VERY good player around 11-13....so I wouldn't be upset with a trade down.

I'm not all that sold on Quinn, but the guy does seem to have the IT factor. It's just how soon can he lead this team places where Carr didn't lead'em. As for Landry, this is a win-win situation. This guy is creole with all the right seasoning. I would definately have confidence in our D if he is back there with Glenn. This is one guy who can elevate the other DB's play cuz of the way he hits and goes after the ball. He is the total package, hands down.

I agree with you but I think Quinn is one of those guys llike Palmer, brady. He carries the team and that is something we need badly. The only reason he lost them big games is bc he had to put up 45 points just to beat the other team, face it his defence sucked. If CW says that he is going to be the next Tom Brady than man I would love to have him be on the texans.

I dunno if you caught Nelson's Pro Day at Florida yesterday, but he knocked
out the same 40 that Landry did in Indy, 4.3. And I've read where Nelson is
a better athlete, with quicker times in the shuttles & cone routines.
Is there still that much difference between them, given Nelsons PD ?

He might carry a team but is he gonna carry the Texans as this team stands right now. No real #2 wr, o-line shuffling, rb by committee, etc. He might could but man i tell you, i'm all for building this defense to actually step up and be reckoned with. As for qb, draft Kolb and let Kubes put his fingerprints on him for 1 yr or 2, and by then we will have a stout defense and issues with the O would be better addessed by then. Look at the BIGG picture dogg, we have to build one side of the ball first, thats da D. thru the draft and use FA for minor band-aids for the O.

This is the second yr in a row I'm pimping a safety for the Texans...last year it was Ko Simpson....
If the Texans pick Landry I might just cream.
:joker:

The players I really really want.. in order.

Johnson - Oh come on... do i even have to justify this. AJ and CJ on the same team? Some teams would just forfiet then to go against both of them on the same team.

Russell, QB - i have one word for you, Kub. If he came under Kubs training, he would be awesome.

Anderson, DE - Why a DE before Peterson... Oh, you cant tell me you wouldnt drool with Mario on one side and Anderson on the other. These bookends would strike fear in all teams.

Peterson, RB - Just think of it, Saint have McAlster (sp) and Bush, We could have Green/Peterson. Ummm.. they wouldnt say crap about our RB's anymore other than 'There goes Green/Peterson to the end zone again!'

Thomas, T - Below Peterson because even though he is awesome, he does have shorter arms then ideal. But everything else is bonus. Spencer can come back and shore up the right side if need be.. Bump Winston inside and there ya go. A real oline with Pitts on the other side. Lets talk about Center at round 2.

(Surprise) Houston, CB - Have you even see this kid. Holy heck batman, he would make it deadly to throw in our backfield with Robinson. IF we pick him up.. I smell many interceptions in our future.. and a few hits record on Jacked up too.

Landry, S - Need something more in the backfield and with him.. we have it. Hits good and has the ability to shut down plays.

Quinn, QB - Ok.. some here have expressed concern this is another Carr. Nope. Even Carr would have been good if he was to learn from Kub his rook year. He didnt, and Quinn can. He would be awesome in our system.

I really hope we take Landry. We could build an awesome D and focus on offense in next years draft, a lot better QBs and stuff are coming then. However, if we trade up and get CJ that would be like SO FREAKING AWESOME. now we have J black so if we take Quinn I wouldn't be happy but at least he would have some protection and could possibly lead this team. but i still say Landry cuz getting CJ is unlikely and Quinn basically is Carr.

Nelson had a great pro day and REALLY helped himself out a lot. I like Landry better because he is bigger/heavier than nelson, and tackles a lot better imo. Nelson has a large upside...but landry is all around solid. there is a lot of talk about moving landry to CB...which while it wouldn't be bad for us to have that versatility...i still say stick with a TRUE FS in Landry...not a FS/CB or a fs/SS in cc brown.

Nelson is a one deminsonal free safety. You can't put him in the box and at 185 lbs he is not stout against the run. Landry has all the tools you look for in a free saftey.

The yahoo draft is one of the better ones I have seen.
