Will Super Mario Win us over?

Practice Squad
Who knows.

I know one thing. I'm more than willing to give a 6-7, 290-lb., 4.7-40, guy a fighting chance.

So we don't have "THE NEXT BARRY SANDERS." Neither does the team that gets Reggie. Reggie is his own man, and we'll see how he does. I'm sure he'll do well, but he isn't making his Hall of Fame acceptance speech tomorrow, hes getting drafted. Calm yourself.

In my opinion Reggie is the BEST FOOTBALL PLAYER in this draft, but very well might not be the best for our team. If I had all these answers I'd be in Casserly's place making the calls myself. (By the way, I think GM is the weakest spot on our Roster)

Yes I think we could have played our hand a little better regarding trading down and still getting Mario, but oh well.

I'll be ready and waiting to come to Peyton's side and assist him in removing the grass from his facemask, cause hey, I'm nice like that.

At first I was angry to say the least, but now I just can't wait to see Mario play some ball. Let' see if he earns the title of Super Mario.

Go Texans.

Mario will never crush manning cause two guys will be on him. Now Travis Johnson/ Robaire Smith or Weaver might crush manning. Maybe Dunta might end up with an int or two........

I don't see Weaver being at all strong when it comes to a pass rush - even with Williams opposite him.

If the OL improves, then Dom Davis will improve as well. He may not be the next Barry Sanders, but there's no guarantee that Bush will be, either. I don't think you could have traded down and picked up Mario. NO at #2 would have picked him if the Texans didn't. As far as who is the best player in the draft, that's hard to say. To a team that needs a RB, Bush might be the best player in the draft. But to a team that needs a QB, Leinert or Young might be the best in the draft. And for a team that needs an OL and has a good D, perhaps Ferguson might be the best in the draft.

Well it's a no brainer that the addition of either of these guys is improving our squad immensely. What people are so heated about is that Reggie won't be stopping by to try on a Texans uniform on his way to the Hall of Fame tomorrow. Oh that's correct, I'm sorry....They have this silly policy about having AN OUTSTANDING CAREER PRIOR TO INDUCTION. I'm by no means saying Reggie isn't headed for one, but I'm just saying he's got a down or two to play in the meantime. Let's all try to settle down and let the football bounce as unpredictably as it may.

How can you say Bush needs to prove himself on the field...yet Williams, without playing a single NFL down, has already improved our squad???

Did I ever say Mario didnt have to prove himself? Oh no, actually I said he will have to, matter of fact that was the overarching POINT of this thread. Due to his lack of hype in comparison to the invincible Bush, I simply didn't have to address the whole Hall of Fame talk. Neither guy has played a down in the NFL, and I clearly stated I think Bush is the better player at this moment. And yes, EITHER of these guys improves our squad, they are top tier-talents. Arguing they don't is like saying we would have been better off just donating the pick and not even participating in the draft. let's let the guy play, you need to read for the point man and quit skewing information so bad.

No need to get so angry. It is late and I simply missed your point. I agree that we have to give the kid a chance to prove himself - regardless of whether we think this is the right or wrong choice...

haha, I'll admit, my reaction prolly was too strong. It is late, forgive me. I am on the same team as you, and I believe the same page. I have my last final exam tomorrow and I shouldn't even be up posting on the forums, I should be studying or sleeping. I'll never apologize for being passionate about my squad, however.

Go Texans.

Who knows if mario will be any good. I guaran-damn-tee you reggie will be.

Guys with reggies work ethic and raw skill are rare. He's like LaDainian I promise you. This DE is gonna be a crap shoot. And even if he is the next Charles Haley, you dont build a team around a DE

We aren't building around him. We built around Carr. Mario was seen by our office, for reasons unknown to us, as the best fit. Not every #1 pick is their respective franchises new cornerstone. I'm with you on Reggie, but I dont think Mario is so poor a player as to call him a crap shoot. I felt dejected and angry at first too, but it's far too premature to write any player off, just as it's far too premature to induct anyone into the hall of fame. I'll be watching next season just like all the others. Go Texans.

Will Mario win us over? Probably. Given the Texans track record with #1 picks he will have at least five years to show us something.

Bush will a huge gamble, do you really think NFL players will fall for his tricks?

any player taken in the draft is a huge gamble ....look at the number of first round busts there have been.

Well, I am still disgusted with us passing on Bush...

That being said, he CAN NOT BE A BUST!!! If he is, we will never hear the end of it. But that being said, when I think of what other great DE have done for their teams, I just really hope Mario can give us the same impact. Our D-Coordinator had Jason Taylor in Miami, and he has been absolutely been great for them. New England signed Richard Seymore for a reason. Julius Peppers has shut Vick down and is going to help Carolina dominate that division for years to come. Even the SuperBowl Eagles has Javon Kearse. So having a great DE as a cornerstone of your defense could really be a great thing.

The one thing that really does concern my however is that this move obviously shows how little faith our staff has of our Defensive roster. We've been looking for a bonafide pass rusher since the 2nd year of our inception, and we haven't found one yet? WTF?!? We really shouldn't have been put in a situation where Mario would have been a better fit for us than Bush. We drafted tweeners Peek and Babin, and now they look like wasted picks. Great job Capers and Casserly.

That being said, Bush is a highlight reel waiting to happen, and would have brought tremendous excitement to this organization. But I honestly don't think he would have made us a better team any more than Mario could. Sure he's going to give us some spectacular TDs, but is he going to do this week in and week out? I don't think so. But that being said, I would have to say that Mario does have a higher "bust factor" than Bush.

He had better crush Manning and Leftwich!

He won't....as he'll be double teamed and the rest of the Dline will be getting all the sacks and glory. Then the anti-Mario squad will be saying he's a bust because he hasn't got as many sacks!:stirpot:

I feel what everyone is saying and I guess Mario is a good enough decision but I just hate the fact that Reggie is going to be playing with some other team when we could have had him. I guess it's like when you're a kid and you have the choice between vegatables or dessert. You know you need the vegatables and they are good for you, but you just have to have that dessert. You know what exciting things Reggie could bring to the Texans offense especially under Kubiak's success with backs (even though we have a running back), but the need to address the O and D line is greater. With that being said, I'm with you Gary all the way. Which is easier for me to say because the initial problem I had with the Texans got fixed and that's a new coaching staff. Especially OC.:fans:

The thing I'm unsure of is the fact that he hasn't shown himself to be as dominant as the next Peppers or Reggie White on the football field. He was good against average teams. I would have liked to see him against tackles from USC or Texas. Sorry, but I don't see any sack highlights against Miami either. I highly doubt he would have had the same performance. Honestly, I find his credentials lacking especially compared with that of Bush's. You talk about on-the-field performance, and this guy is clearly not the best player available in the draft. Screw the combine numbers, he has not shown that he is as good as Peppers on tape. I really hope I'm wrong here, but the tapes don't lie.
