Why would Jets trade to #2 but not #1?

Somebody explain this to me. Lots of talk everywhere about the Jets trading with NO to take Bush at #2, giving up 2 first round picks, plus something else, a second or third.

What I wonder is if the Jets made that kind of offer to the Texans?

Don't get me wrong--I like the Mario pick, but I would have preferred to trade down and get three picks for one.

I have been wondering the exact same thing. At worst we would have grabbed D'Brick...

I'm starting to give some credence to the theory that no team was willing to put together a trade package for the Texans because no team believed the Texans were serious about trading the pick.

Reggie to New Orleans--they don't want to trade allegedly:

General Manager Mickey Loomis, from his bunker at Saints' headquarters just after 10 p.m. EST, said he didn't think he would accept any offers for USC superstar running back Reggie Bush prior to Saturday's noon start of the 71st NFL draft.

"He [Bush] is the No. 1 player on our board," Loomis said during a break in staff meetings at the Saints' facility. "He's the No. 1 player on a lot of teams' boards. To be truthful, I don't expect us to be moving the pick."

As for trades, you don't trade down just to horde picks.

You have to have players that you value enough for those picks. I think they believed they couldn't get a trade that still meant they got Bush or Williams. So why trade down.
