Why was D'Brick never in the game?

Seemed odd that the biggest hole we had, we never attacked?

Must be good ole Charlie who said, "Well....it takes 3 years to develop an offensive Lineman from the draft, so why pick them (on 610 sports last year).

Which someone here responded: That is why we will always be 3 years away.

I like Mario Williams over Bush because WIlliams is a draft at need, while Bush was the nations pick. We got a good core at running back and we have an all pro rookie kick Returner so it made no sense in taking Bush.

But still, they better address the O-line with the 2nd pick (Marcus McNeil, that Eric WInston looks horrible) or then this will truly be a bad draft for the Texans and it will be yet another Miserable year for Carr and the rest of us as we see him get to much pressure (YET AGAIN) to do anything.
 
I wouldn't be surprised one bit if we did not take any OL today, but took a couple tomorrow...Let's look at the starters from last year for the two other teams who run a zone blocking scheme:

Atlanta:
LT: Kevin Shaffer - 7th round
LG: Matt Lehr - 5th round
C: Todd McClure - 7th round
RG: Kynan Forney - 7th round
RT: Todd Weiner - 2nd round

Denver:
LT: Matt Lepsis - UDFA
LG: Ben Hamilton - 4th round
C: Tom Nalen - 7th round
RG: Cooper Carlisle - 4th round
RT: George Foster - 1st round

8/10 of these players were drafted on the second day or were not selected at all...Like it or not, we will likely not be drafting any immediate starters on the OL...
 
I still would feel more comfortable with taking Marcus McNeil, and one of the USC guards in the later rounds

Out of McNeill, Lutui, and Matua, the only one we have a realistic shot at drafting is Matua, since McNeill and Lutui don't fit a zone blocking scheme...

I know that, and Lutui actually does move pretty well for a bigger guy, but he doesn't have the quickness or agility for an NFL zone scheme...
 
But, I think of pass blocking. I mean who cared if we got Reggie Bush and he runs down the field in a pass and then turns for the ball but only see's Carr getting creamed.

Who do you see as viable picks at the Tackle spot for the Texans?

For what it's worth, Atlanta has consistently been one of the worst pass blocking lines in the league. Denver's isn't that great either, but not nearly as bad. And as for Ferguson, I think he's just viewed as too much of an unfinished product. He would have been a better choice than Williams, especially if you could have traded down to #4 and still gotten him, but Bush would have had more of an impact. Keep in mind that Bush is not a conventional running back. Not only could you give him 10-15 carries of his own, but you could have used him very effectively out of the slot while Davis was in the backfield.

I agree with you...That is something that Gaffney complained about when he signed with Philly -- that he'd go on a route, and before he made a cut, Carr would be on the ground...

As far as viable options at tackle, I think that Daryn Colledge, Rashad Butler, Paul McQuistan, Guy Whimper, Michael Toudouze, and Jeromy Clary are possible names that we could see flash across the screen in the 3rd or later...
 
I really like Darryn Colledge. He's very sound as far as his technique goes, and his awareness is very good. He's not as atheletically gifted as Ferguson, but he's much more fundamentally sound. I'm thinking Colledge would be a viable option for the Texans, and he'd be a starter by his second season. He'd be capable of starting this season if called upon.

I tend to agree with this. Every time I turned on the television and UVA was on, Ferguson just happened to be getting beat. He has good athleticism and is very mobile for a LT, but he's not a good run blocker and I think it's going to take him a few years to put on the weight he'll need to take his game up a notch in the pros. I think he'll struggle for his first two seasons and then turn into a good but not great LT, just in time for his rookie contract to come up and some tackle-hungry team to drop a monster contract in his lap.

I don't know what those guys were watching, but I saw plenty of UVA games (I went there many years ago), and I think Ferguson has a good shot to be one of the best tackles in the game. He has excellent feet and excellent technique. He does need to get stronger, but he absolutely manhandled the best DEs in the Senior Bowl all week.

Colledge did not impress me at the Senior Bowl practices and stuff that I saw on NFL Network. I dont know about the others I will have to look them up. I hope you are right about the ability to draft in the later rounds and turning them into gold, because I was VERY high on D'brick who slammed everyone at the Senior Bowl.
