Why not Leinart?

Here is my question and its a simple one. If there has been a loss of faith in David Carr, and the first pick should again be used on a quarterback, why is Matt Linart not in the discussion for the pick?

If the best interests of the team are what is important and the team winning, why has the debate on the best QB coming out already been closed before its been started. Linart was all the rage last year and i recall talks of scrapping Carr and going after Linart if he came out last year.

So the question is, if people are so gung ho about replacing Carr why isn't the other top college QB also in the debate, why is it a one horse race?

Personally, I don't think Leinart is any better than Jay Cutler in this draft, and I'd probably prefer Cutler. Cutler did more with less than any QB in football this year. To me Leinart is a cross between Bledsoe's feet and Pennington's arm. His game reminds me of Leftwich's game....He already wears a knee brace and isn't very mobile. I'm not moved to replace Carr with that. I'd rather pick Bush if we passed on Young. To me, the first slot is between Bush and Young only.

my main point wasn't so much the merits of Linart as the tunnel vision many fans have with Young. Both have great potential in this league but Linart has gotten literally zero burn. Proves that the hometown connection is the main driving force for Young and that isn't smart football management.

That's the way I feel, too. No doubt these two cats are the best talent in this year's draft.

Leinart may very well turn out to be a good NFL QB. But his immobility would hurt his chances with the current state of our offense right now. He needs a team with a solid o-line that just needs a good passer installed to bring their offense together.

Because if you play for the texans at QB and you arent mobile... you're gonna get owned lol.

That's awesome. I hope we never have to go after a FA quaterback. What could we possibly offer him that would convince a QB to get behind our line?

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Leinart gets rattled when he gets hit a lot.

First ...I am not saying he is better then VY!!! Lord knows I don't want all you bandwagoners jumping on me!!!

Did any of you see the second half of the champ game...What was it? 4 TD drives in a row? The guy is going to be very good if not great...

Easy bro, I didn't mention VY. Not my intention to bandwagon... just an observation.

He is going to be great in the NFL no doubt.... But I don't see much difference between him and Carr... He's going to need more than what we've got on the O-line. We'll see what free agency brings, and if we've mended the damn enough, then there is no reason to believe Carr wouldn't do well, really well. But if we have an unproven group of guys, or a few guys who may be past their prime, then you're doing them all a favor by not making them have to block for 5+ seconds. If Carr could make plays on the move, ala Brett Favre, ala Donavan McNabb, we'd have won more games this year.

Leinart will be a very good quarterback if he has protection and weapons around him. I think he can be a better Chad Pennington (pre injuries) or slightly worse Tom Brady if in the right situation. His arm strength will prevent him from being another Peyton Manning, but he has a lot of experience in an NFL style offense and has been very successful. He has a very high football IQ and should do well.

I think that if QB is truly a problem on this team then we should be considering Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Jay Cutler, and Omar Jacobs. But since we are only considering Vince, this shows me that the fans are the only ones who believe that we have a problem at QB.

give me Vince Young or trade down. if we trade down I want to be making the picks :heh:

see there is really one choice, the right choice and thats Vince Young :ok:

Why do is he the right choice? Because of one game? Come on!!! Bush in 06!!!

Because he is the only player in the draft that can change the Dynamic of this team!!!

We've got Three running backs. They catch fairly well, they block fairly well, they've ran for 1800 yards. What are the odds that Reggie will add 600 yards to that his rookie season??

David Carr threw for 2500 yards this year. It is feasible to believe a rookie Quarterback can do the same..... just pick one. Chances are he'll throw for 2000 yards or thereabouts. But 9 out of ten of them will have problems managing the game behind the line they are going to get. They'll be better, but that isn't saying a whole lot. There is very little chance of getting an O-lineman in the Draft that will anchor either side his rookie year. There is a better chance of finding the right people through free agency, but I don't see a "Willie Roaf" out there this year.

So, we need someone to bring something different to this offense. And that's Vince. He won't run for 1000 yards, but he doesn't have to. He just has to give our recievers another 2 or 3 seconds to get open.

IF this was Michael Vick......... I'd pass, trade down. I don't want to build a team around Michael Vick. I think Vince Young is closer to McNabb, and Culpepper. They can do it with their feet,if they have to, but they can hurt you with their arm.

Leinart isn't a local talent. So most people have no emotional tie to him. People will mention Leinart's lack of arm strength but will overlooked the long list of reasons Vince Young not the best pro prospect.

The most important question is...Is Vince Young the best QB in draft? If VY is so great why would people even consider him dropping to Tennessee. Is VY a better prospect than Cutler? Some good questions.

Rarely does a rookie QB coming and make an immediate impact. And sure Carr only threw for 2500 yards, but he did that on only 423 attempts, least amount of attempts in the NFL by a QB who played in 16 games. As a team we attempted 449 total passes, #29 in the NFL. And how is Vince going to give our WR's another 2-3 seconds to get open when there are defenders in the backfield 2 seconds after the ball is snapped? Is he going to stand in the backfield and block before he makes the pass? I don't think Vince will be able to scramble and take off with the ball and have success in the NFL running like he did in college.

I find Leinart about as exciting as I found David Carr in 2002.

He's solid, but he just isn't dynamic like Bush or Young.

ML is Clutch when he calls his number. Notre Dame 4th and 9. The TD pass to Jarrett at the goal line late in the Rose Bowl was perfect and right before the defense could react. I think the first half of the Rose Bowl he was recovering from the month off or Ballroom Dancing the night before.:) He is not extremly mobile and will need a line and some targets to work his magic.:ok: The guy was leading a team that lost two games by 6pts. his entire college career.

That's pretty bad, when the only thing you can say is that he didn't win 3 National Championships.
