Why Jets #1 in 07 must be part of a trade.

Jets have the youngest inexperienced staff and Front Office in the NFL. Jets just cut 7 players including Law, Feidler and Fabini. Talent they cannot replace. Pennington is trying to renogotiate and is coming off 2nd shoulder surgery. He is doubtful at best and Jets are in dire need of a QB. Jets 06 schedule is demanding maybe 3 or 4 wins at best. 07 draft position of top 5 is extremely probable. #1 pick in 07 is also possible. Consider your chances for:

The guys you list - especially Peterson - are the reason they (and most bad teams) will refuse to give up a #1 next year.

I would not want to be the guy that gave up a shot at taking Peterson. And I don't think most GMs want to take a chance on being that guy either. So, except for Al Davis and the Raiders, I don't think we can get another #1 next year out of any bad teams.

So the Jets would be willing to give up Matt Leinart (no way he lasts 'till the 4th pick) just to secure a chance of drafting somebody like Peterson(no guarantee they'll be in a position to draft him anyway)?

Sounds like a formula for failure to me.

There have been several rumored deals with the Jets and Raiders being the top two candidates .....

If I were to deal the #1 pick to the Jets it would cost them the #4 pick their 2nd rounder and their #1 next season Period , I dont want their 8.3 Mill cap hit with Abe (Good player or not) Unless a longterm deal could be worked out for a reasonable price of around 4-4.5 mil per PRIOR to the deal. In which case I would settle for this years 1st and 3rd as well as next years 1st rounder and Abe.

From the Raiders who pick 7th I would take no less than their #7 overall , 2nd and 4th as well as next years #1.

I seriously doubt that either team would part with that much to move up to #1.....

I am sure they would love to draft Lienert at #4. But, giving up #4, other picks and a #1 next year that could be worth a lot - too much.

I would be tempted to do this deal - if they would give up that #1 next year because I think they will suck (no RB, poor WRs and a rookie qb).

I am also in the boat about getting next years #1. The only reason I want a #1 for next year is the chance to take a great player.

I know that this team can draft good in the 1st round, but the 2nd and 3rd they have had problems with.

So, if you guys are right ...then next season we could possibly have not 1 but 2 early draft picks (No way we win with Carr). So, how are we gonna pay off those picks and stay under the cap. I don't think Jets will accept the trade. Even if they don't get a No.1 pick one of the three quaterbacks will fall. (Leinheart, Cutler, Young)
And even if they don't they could draft D'brick.

Like us, they have a lot of holes to fill. They need a 2nd round pick. I don't think they will accept the trade.

I'm a Jet fan weighing in on your board and I would doubt the Jets would also give up a 1st. rd. next year too. We are rebuilding and next year should be another high draft pick for us. I think we would go with our #4 and Abraham who is a 3 time pro bowler at only 26 years of age. He's a proven player "when healthy", and he did play a full season last year. Im surprised that "some" of the Texas fans would be willing to give up the #1 pick, but inside I think everyone know's that the "Brick" and another couple of pick's or player would be the best for the organization. I think the only way you would get another #1 for 2007 is if a team was trading #15 or lower 1st. rd. pick this year. You would still be getting an impact player at #4.

What did the Giants give up for Eli ? .... Two #1's was part of the package .

In now way is two #1's asking too much .... If I were the Jets it would be too much to pay so I wouldnt be moving to the #1 spot.

As for Abe .... I dont want him Unless we were able to negotiate a longterm deal with him in the neighborhood of $4-4.5 Mill. per season . With a cap number of $8.3 Mill. for next season and no guarantee of retaining him further he's not worth more than a 4th round selection IMO.

This is why the chances of the Texans trading the pick are slim. The teams at the top of the draft are going to be hesitant to give up a lot for this pick and the Texans aren't going to just give it away just to trade it. I would say that the minimum asking price of the #1 pick would be the Giants-Chargers trade. But I wouldn't be surprised if the Texans wanted more because this is a special year for the draft.
