Who would you like to see as the coach?

If you had a choice, who would you want the Texans to hire as the next head coach? If it were me, I would hire Gary Kubiak. He's an offensive minded head coach and I think he would help David Carr tremendously. If he decides not to leave Denver or go somewhere else though, I think Mike Sherman would be a good fit. He had one bad year in Green Bay and that's because there was hardly any talent (kind of like us). Albeit, he was partly to blame for that because he was the GM/Coach. If Sherman came here I wonder if him and Casserly could co-exist.
 
Kubiak.. seems to me to be a great choice. Hes won a superbowl (I think).. he seems very competent.. he is very familiar with our zone blocking scheme. And he is young enough that we could keep him here a long time.

I just worry about having an offensive minded coach. I think we are much more likely to make it to the superbowl on the strength of our Defense, than the strength of our Offense.
 
I'd like to see Kirk Ferentz of Iowa be the next HC of the Texans. He's a fanatic about developing an offensive line first . . . everything else comes in second.

If you want high draft picks used on O linemen every draft, Kirk Ferentz is your man! He's a disciplinarian with NFL experience who has coached under Bill Belichick.

How come Kubiak has never been serious contender for any other head coaching jobs all these years? I keep hearing his name popup even in our search for our first head coach. But elsewhere?

I hear he's a terrible interview.
 
Kubiak has 3 Superbowl rings. 2 with the Broncos as Offensive Coordinator and 1 with the Niners as the QB coach. He also was a player in the 3 Broncos Superbowl losses in the 80s. He has played with and coached John Elway. He coached Steve Young. He knows what a winning organization is about.

He has been looked at for some Head Coaching spots. He interviewed with Houston in 2001 before the job went to Capers. He interviewed and was offered the Colorado Buffalo job after Neuheisel left. He turned it down because at the time the Broncos were still playing and it would have meant the Buffalos would have had to wait until February to get their head coach and he didn't want to do that to the school. I'm not sure what other teams have considered him in the past few years. I would think he's been looked at, but until this year coordinators in playoffs had to wait until after their team was eliminated to interview. I want Kubiak. He's from Houston, but that's the least of my interest in him. I think he has shown that he understands the offensive side of the pro game. The Broncos have a great running game each year, but also throw the ball well. Plummer threw for 3300 yards and 18 tds this season against only 7 Ints. This is remarkable for this guy. He threw for over 4000 yards last season with 28 touchdowns. I think he can help solve the offensive woes that hurt this team this season.
 
I think we should look at Rivera from Chicago. Chicago scored the exact same number of points as us and finished 11-5 because his defense killed. He could see if he could get Martz as our offensive coordinator, with Bush as his new Marshall Faulk, he could rebuild credibility in a hurry. I think if anyone could help Carr develop into an NFL QB, Martz could do it. Add Andre Johnson and Jerome Mathis into the mix and he's got his greatest show on turf again.

What's interesting is I'm not certain any of the mentioned names supposidly fit McNair's qualifications. Actually someone like Walsh or Chucky are a better fit. Of course those are names not mentioned and probably are not in consideration, but you never know. Walsh has been acting as a consultant for the 49ers, but it certainly doesn't seem that organization is going anywhere. Looks like they are on the cheap and aren't ready to bite the bullet. Sort of like the old Warriors owner and what he did with that ball club. Martz has an ego bigger than reliant stadium and I can't see McNair and him getting along. Strangley the guy closest to what McNair laughed about in the news conference is Walsh. He went out on top, but I think his reputation has been tarnish by his current associations with the 49ers. May be he would like to rebuild a bit of his reputation. I think he would fit in quite well with this organization.
 
Maybe Mr McNair can install PS2/XBox contollers at every seat. Then in between plays the crowd can choose a play off of the Jumbo-Tron. The play with the most requests gets radioed into Carrs' headset.

I agree this guy Rivera needs to be interviewed. He has really created an amazing defense in chicago. Also he has a very very young defense there. Anyone who can get the young guys to play well is worth their weight in gold.

I'd like to see Herman Edwards.

I don't want mike martz anywhere near my team. He turns into a pass happy maniac that never runs the ball. BALANCE is what I want and when the 4th quarter comes to RUN it down your throat.
 
I contacted some of my Bronco fan friends about Kubiak and this is what they wrote back:

1. He was a hot commodity after the back-to-back Super Bowl wins. Interviewed for a job with the evil TX based NFL team, IIRC.

Shanahan and Bowlen convinced him to stay. I think he is a good offensive mind. I also think he'd love coaching Reggie Bush.

You could do worse, IMHO.

2. He is a fantastic offensive coach, probably the best available. I'm sorry he's available. :(

I have no idea what his capabilities on defense might be. He'll do a great job for you on offense if you land him.

No one has looked at Bill Billick as the HC.I think he would be great for our team because in Baltimore he created a fierce defense and won a superbowl.I think he has the capabilities to put together a good offense and great young defense.

Its Brian Billick and he still has a job as hc of the Ravens.
 
Well they were talking about him bieng a good prospect and I think his contract ended this year.I might be wrong. But if his contract didnt end then I say we bring in Kubiak.
 
Understood, but he's supposed to be offensive minded because lewis controlled the defense, and like the texans, for whatever reason o-line and what not their QB choice has not worked out like Carson Palmer.
 
I like Monte Kiffin, defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Bucs!. This guy has a great winning record, knows his defense, knows offense obviously to sniff it out and stop it. He's also put these superb defenses together.

Kubiak would be a disaster. He spends most of his time in the skybox instead of the sidelines, his SB rings are mostly due to Elway (who wouldn't have a SB ring with Elway on the team?) and he's had some clunkers while with Denver as well. Denver has struggled to playoff finishes recently with solid personnel and has been ousted early -- some eliminations involving big margins. Kubiak has problems getting things together even as an assistant on a team that is loaded with players. He would be a catastrophe on a team with limited talent like the Texans. If Kubiak comes here, get ready for a string of double-digit loss seasons. He will make you pine for Capers circa 2002-04.
