Which Texans running back will end up being The Man?

Could some of you lucky folks that have been at Camp tell me if any of the RB's are showing the ability to take a hit or two and keep going? (Take a licking and keep on ticking.)

I know the shake and bake backs are fun to watch, but even though he wasn't a speedster, my all time favorite is still Earl Campbell.

The QB takes the snap.
The QB hands off to Earl.
5 to 11 defenders pile onto Earl.
The pile gains 12 yards.

I also remember seeing Earl lay out some blitzers on more than one occassion.

I remember standing next to him. With his 36 1/2 inch thighs (his thighs were acually larger than his 36 inch waist) and his 5-11, 244-pound frame, coupled with 4.6 speed, Earl was actually a POWER ONE CUT AND RUN back.........and he was his own OL and FB too!

They just said on NFL Total Access that Denver has a undrafted rookie at the head of their depth chart right now.

Yup, and people are freaking in Broncoland a bit about it.

But part of that is a try out. In preseason. Shanahan knows what he has in his other backs, but doesn't know how Mike Bell would do with the first team and against first team defenses. And whether he can block.

Also, Bell is surrounded by guys familiar with the offense. Kubiak doesn't have that luxury--heck, nobody knows how well the Denver system is going to translate here.

Hey, TC! That's the key phrase. Ding-Ding-Ding! Give that lady a prize! You hit it out of the ball park with that statement. I hope that everyone does not parallel Denver's success pluging in "RB X" with our situation currently at RB. I know we have a HC experienced with a zone blocking scheme but the key is still execution.

True. And personnel. Hard to get all the right personnel for what you need to do in one year.

Ultimately, it is nice that there is a system and philosophy that they are committing to, even if it may not be as successful as people would want right away.

Oooh, you said the E word.

EVERYBODY starts with a clean slate this year. Even the E word.

Point well taken. It is an important word to have relating to a team game like football.

Though when I try to say it nowadays, it comes out all messed up like the Fonz trying to apologize. [/old pop culture reference]

I will have to practice.

This just in..................... No he did not.

Kubiak had more enlightening comments on Davis today as well. I've been worried for 2 months that the knee isn't responding like they hoped. In the after practice comments section on the homepage news link today Kubiak confirmed that the swelling isn't under control as they hoped. My perspective of that is that the staffs been looking at plan B for a while on Davis and today's news is a strong indicator that plan B is probably now plan A.

Anyone think that Chris Taylor could be announced as the starter for our first preseason game like Mike Bell was for Denver? I know I might be going out on a limb but it would be cool to see what he can do with the first team.

I don't want any announcements. I want surprises....I wanta sneak up on the whole dang league....by the time they figure it out I want us to have 15 wins.

so far as I've seen in Kubiaks statements, he has never listed taylor as the top spot prospect. antowain smith has allways been listed first. and morency usually second. but who knows, he said they will use different combos each preseason game.

All of you have pretty good assessments of Chris Taylor. Yes, we all are weary of starting rookie running backs. Taylor has speed, versatility, smooth moves, craftiness and other definitive attributes. What's going to make him stand out more is, he has the heart of a lion. When a hungry lion gets ready to eat, he devours everything in his path! You will see very soon that Chris Taylor has the heart and talent of a true champion and MVP. Go Chris Taylor, Go Texans!!

I believe that both Taylor and Lundy are going to make it. At least I hope they do.

I have a hard time thinking a guy who couldnt even star at Indiana is going to be the next walter payton. Also, Antowain Smith is what like 34. Our rbs stink

This is the title of the latest FanBlog post: Link

Stuff that you prolly know, and stuff that you might not.

This is more of a thought exercise on various things we know about the running back situation right now.

Prolly this post will look foolish in hindsight, but you never know.

:texflag:

Let's sign Maurice Clarett. If the police have a hard time bringing him down, opposing defenses don't stand a chance :yahoo:

What about Tom Brady....I think if anything statements like this should/would be a thing of the past, with all of the recent superstars as of late coming from seemingly no where....
