We trade the #1 pick to the Jets. We get in return their 1st round pick (4th overall), J. Abraham and either next year's first rounder if possible, if not...this year's 2nd round, being it's a high second rounder this year.

#1 overall....the Jets get Matt Leinart

#2 overall....New Orleans get either Jay Cutler or V. Young. For the sake of the contemplation....let's say things sway our way and they pick up Jay Cutler cause I doubt Tennessee would want Jay Cutler if New Orleans or Jets get Young.

#3 overall...Titans get V. Young

#4 overall....Texans pick Reggie Bush

The only way the Jets trade up is to grab Reggie Bush. If they want a QB they just let us take Bush atr #1 and have either Leinart, Young, or Cutler fall to them.
 
If you want Bush, and (I can't believe I am saying this, sorry VY) we want Bush, you have to take them with the no. 1 pick. The Jets also need a replacement for Curtis Martin who is showing his age.

Well I heard that the Jets are going to release Pennington, and they aren't impressed with Bollinger, Fielder is old, and Testaverde is even older, so I would think they would trade up to get Leinart.

Haha....true that. They are in dire need with QB moreso than RB. So...I guess this gives merit to my initial post.
 
They may have substantially different grades for the 3 QB's. If that is the case, they might be willing to trade with us.
 
The Jets may have the pick we would LIKE TO trade down to ..... But the Jets are NOT in a position to trade UP ......They have as many holes as the Texans .... The Jets would trade DOWN ...... The only way the Texans end up with the #4 is if another team moves up to that spot looking to trade to #1 and thats not very likely

But don't you think that since they are desperate need of a QB, they'd want to be the one to have first dibs on the QB THEY FEEL is the best of the batch?

We have openly said we wanted a ridiculous deal...I think they coined it a "godfather deal" to get off of our pick. At this point I think the Jets are too close to the top to feel compelled to move up at the expense of other good players added to the team. The top 5 of this draft class is very solid.
 
Im sure any team would LIKE to have their choice of any prospect available .... But when you suck as much as the Texans , Jets , Aints or Titanics you arent in a position to trade up .
They have too many holes , even more now that they have released a handful of players due to their cap problems . They need more picks not less .
Add to that the fact there are three solid QB's in this draft (Leinart , Young and Cutler) only two of which should be gone by the time they pick .... They stay put or move DOWN. (Rumor has it they are high on Cutler)

I'd like to see the Texans move down to #3 or 4 myself but it just isnt realistic to think that the jets with all their needs or the Titans , a division rival with several needs of their own would give up a kings ransom of picks or picks and players for the #1. ( at a bare minimum it would cost those teams their first and second rounders this year and next years first to move up to #1).

More realistic trade partners would be the Raiders at 6 or the Bills at 8 .... Both of which pick a bit too low for my liking..... Ferguson , Bush , Williams , Leinart and Hawk would all likely be gone by then leaving the Texans to pick from the second tier of players.

Yeah, teams 1-7 can just stay put and they'll get a quality player
 
Something that hasn't been mentioned yet. The Jets are over 25 million bucks over the cap. They got to cut players loose like there's no tomorrow. The only way they can replace them on the cheap is with draft picks . . . the more they get the happier they will be. They've had to F-tag Abraham. They'll trade him for a 2nd round pick. (Crazy? - just watch) They'll either trade down if they can a smuck as dumb as Casserly . . . or they can sit there and do nothing and watch D'Brickashaw fall right into their laps.

God! If only Brown had made that kick!:brickwall

The Jets Cap issues were mentioned above (two posts above) ....

As for trading Abraham for a #2 .... I think the $8.3 million he would be due since being franchised makes that MUCH less likely to happen ..... He's a good player but thats a steep price to pay , both a #2 draft choice and 8.3mill , for just about any team . I put his value closer to a 4th or 5th rounder with that salary.......

I agree they will either trade down or sit at 4 and take either Cutler or Ferguson . Probably Cutler considering Pennington will most likely be released if he doesnt re-structure his contract that has him due a $12Million bonus due next month and $9million for next season ..... They have asked him to take an incentive laden contract with a base salary of $1 million .

After all these cuts they are expected to be $28Million OVER the cap at the START of the FA period .

The cutting of the seven players will combine to create close to $16 million in salary-cap space for the franchise, but the work is far from done as the Jets are projected to be close to $28 million over the salary cap when free agency is set to start on March 3. And with the franchise tag being placed on defensive end John Abraham at a value of over $8 million, I expect more cuts along the way in New York

You don't trade people for the franchise tag number. A trading team negotiates a long term deal acceptable to the player and either signs a formal offer to see if the tagging team will match or works informally with the trading team to see if a lessor compensation (than 2 1st round picks) can be worked out. The $8.3 mil is almost irrelevant to the deal except as pressure on the tagging team to clear that amount off their cap.

I believe you are refering to the Transition Tag (Orlando Pace and the Rams last year).... It gives the team the right to match any offer the player may recieve via free agency and if not recieve compensation ...... There is the possibility that Abraham could work out a deal with another team and then sign that contract w/ the Jets then be traded ....

The Transition tag basicly makes the player a Restricted FA where the Franchise Tag removes all FA activity and locks the player up for the next season at a salary equal to the avg of the top five players at that position or a 20% raise from the previous season if the player was franchised the prior season

Nope. The transition tag involves the greater of the average of the top 10 players at the position or a 20% raise on the last year's salary. The tagging team only has the right to match any offer sheet. If they decline, they receive no compensation. The franchise tag is the greater of the top 5 players at the position or a 20% increase on the last year's salary. The tagging team has the right to match an offer sheet. If they decline they receive 2 1st rounders as compensation. Since hardly any team wants to give up 2 1st rounders, what has become common is to work out an acceptable contract with the tagged player, but not to sign a formal offer sheet, and then see if an agreeable compensation less than 2 1st's can be negotiated. The only way any team pays the franchise tag salary is if the player stays with the tagging team and does not come to a long term deal and therefore plays under the franchise tag.
