Whats clear now..Texans Cant Trade #1 Pick!

UGA

Noob
With Young being a Houstonian, and now arguably the top player available in the draft... Houston cannot trade the #1 pick. I wasnt big on us trading the pick anyway, but now with the big three "Young, Leinert, Bush" we'd be morons to pass up on the opportunity. It would be suicide from a buisness standpoint with the fans to not decide between Bush or Young, and we dont exactly have so much raw talent that we can bypass elite level prospects for second tier types.

At least now Cass hand has been forced. No fooling around with picks, no blowing it by looking for "value"... they have to take one of the big three. What a relief, Casserly now only has a 15% of blowing it, instead of 75% before yesterday.

Or, you could look at it as "Now, the pick has a LOT more trade value than before, so it would be even more foolhardy to pass up the extra value" .....

If we were to rank need by offensive position, running back would be last on the list. QB would be near the middle-to-bottom of the list, which does make the VY pick a little more attractive. What is the #1 position need on this team? What has been the #1 position need on this team for the duration of it's existence?

The Texans are at an alltime low with their fanbase... we lack dynamic players...

The Texans will not trade this pick. Mcnair will not allow Casserly to destroy the fanbase with any of his foolish "value" plays...

Its Bush or Young and thats the extent of Casserly's options.

They are almost backed into this. They have to appease their base, and frankly this is a great "liability" since either player is a possible star in the making.

I cannot think of a better way for things to shake out. My biggest fear was Casserly somehow blowing this opportunity... now he has two options and neither look like bad plays.

Mcnair wilnot! I REPEAT WILL NOT TRADE DAVID CARR!!!!
Casserly has made that clear. People we really have to pay better attention!

Fanbase is a funny thing. If your team wins then they could have Joe Schmoe from Alaska at the helm and he is wonderful. That is the nature of our city, do we support the Rockets heavily? No. When they win though we do. The Astros? No. They win we do. The Texans? Hell yeah there is a waiting list longer well than a long extremity in a donkey show for tickets. Fanbase is not going to go anywhere, because McNair does not care about picking the popular player, but just fielding a winner. That is all you need to do. Carr or VY, DD or Bush who cares as long as we win 10+ and hit the playoffs the majority of the board and GP will be happy.

Why do we need VY or Reggie Bush, we have domanick davis who is a proven 1000 yard rusher, even when he is injured, we already have David Carr, who showed that he can be succesful if has has blocking. Vince Young Should go back and get an education, and get Texas another national championship.

As of right now Young will be considered the player with better upside despite the fact that Carr as been in the league for a few years.

As of right now Young is a Houstonian, a champion for Texas and is the overwhelming fan favorite.

Young will be a serious contender for our first pick. The stars have aligned as such. Its almost too perfect a setting.

Its Young or Bush, and there are no other options.

I wouldn't go that far just yet. With guys like Mario Williams, Leonard Pope, and Santonio Holmes declaring recently we should AT LEAST entertain offers.

Davis is an injury risk, never making it through a full season at the helm. He is a 15 carry a game back. Though he is a good back, he is serviceable. In horseracing he'd be deemed "useful" and nothing more. Bush is a constant threat.

Carr, has never had a full team around him. But he also hasnt progressed in some of the basics. He's not much of a leader... and he doesnt have anywhere near the upside of Young. Carr and Young are both basically projects, the question is go with a uber talented guy like Young who is now a Texas legend, or stick with Carr who very easily could be damaged goods.

yeah, if a team wants to be foolish enough to offer us their nos. 1/2 picks for 2006 & 2007...we'd be crazy not to at least consider it.

Nothing is set in stone, and we've got some major needs on this team. No way does Bush or Young come in here and give us a winning season without us improving in some key areas.

I would go that far. Theres Young and Bush and then everyone else. Those are the only real options, and trading around picks at this point would be a monumental blunder. Especially since it Casserly at the head of the table.

Mcnair will not allow Cass to screw this up. Could you imagine the PR blunder it would be is Cass pulled one of his patented moves? He'll give Cass two options... and the Texans will be the winner either way it goes.

I thought VY played a great game and think he has quite a future in the NFL. However, his ability to dominate in college doesn't necessarily mean he'll be ready to step in and play at a high level in the NFL immediately. The learning curve is particularly steep for a QB, especially one going to a team with a bad O-line and few playmakers on offense.

If VY declares for the draft, the Texans will carefully consider their options, including trading the #1 pick for a package of picks and players. I wouldn't be at all opposed to trading the #1 pick to the Jets for the #4 overall pick plus a mother lode of picks and a starter or two.

That would enable us to draft D'Brickashaw Ferguson and help fill out our roster.

As great as VY and RB have been in college, it is not a sure thing they will be All-Pros in the NFL. In addition, if one of them were to suffer a career-ending injury after we picked him, it would be devastating. If another team makes it worth our while, I like the idea of not putting all our eggs in one basket, particularly because I don't think QB and RB are our biggest areas of need.

With Bush in the mix we were going to get 1's and 2's picks for 2006/7 anyways.

But Cass would jack us up horribly in a trade, wed end up getting some slug with a latter first round pick this year. He'd nab some project pick and scream "value" at the top of his lungs while the league laughs at us.

There is a reason why that pick has value, because the player you stand to get is an absolute STANDOUT.

We need STANDOUTS, not a couple extra second tier players.

Just as its no lock that the picks we gained would pan out either.

The difference is the upside is off the charts.

Despite the appearance, i.e., most notably with the infamous "Priority Wait List" campaign the last few seasons, there has been no such thing as a real waiting list for Texans season tickets. If you wanted to buy them, you could get them.

I don't think that it is a horrible idea to trade the pick (in theory). If VY and RB are so close trade back to New O. or to the *** ans and pick the one left over. This will not matter because we will know in about five weeks who our first pick will be. Depending on if they give DC the bonus or not. If they do we can't take the cap hit to trade him. If the don't then its hello VY.

You have got to be kidding. A Houstonian. What difference does that make?
The STARS have aligned. No offense but what have you been smoking.:homer:

Although I want Young if we don't get him, I agree that we should not trade the pick (I think Bush is good also, but just not as good as VY)
