Option 1 might win us a SB immediately.
Option 2 might win us a few down the road. I feel like there are few great players in this draft, and lots of good to serviceable ones. This draft is going to be good for a safety to earn under Reed, a #2 Wr, hopefully a NT that can start, some O-line depth, and linebacker depth.
I'll take whatever is available; however, if I'm allowed as a GM to have a long term view, I would spend a ton money on scouting as the dollar amount is not restricted (I don't think) by the league.
I will get to know all the talents at the earliest stage of their career much as possible and plan all of the team's acquisition/transaction (including trades) accordingly.

I think Hankins, Allen, Damontre Moore or Hopkins or Ogletree off a possible probowler in first. In second and third round, there are players there who could quite well become probowlers this season more likely at WR or CB although I would not be shocked if Te'o or SHort made it.

I think from my mock it's obvious I took approach #2.
If we stay reasonably healthy, the Texans are very close to having a historic defense - the caliber of Minnesota's Purple People Eaters, Dallas' Doomsday Defense and Pittsburg's Steel Curtain. Our NT last year got manhandled out of position, the weakside ILB's made too many mental errors and, this year, Manning is mismatched against elite TE's.
We don't necessarily need pro-bowlers to upgrade these positions; we just need quality upgrades.
Offense just needs another WR to have the confidence of Shaub and to have a very good year. And we need upgrades on the right side of the line.
This year, to get us over the hump, we don't need BPA; we just need BPA who will upgrade these need positions.

Damontre Moore?? Really? This guy bombed at the combine showing up not only weak, but slow as well. I would pass on him in a heart beat & I don't think he is 1st round quality much less a future Pro Bowler imo. His work ethic has been questioned, & for good reason after the combine, & if he can't get properly prepared to perform his best at what was his biggest job interview, then why should we believe that will only get better once he starts getting a check. Needless to say, I would pass on Moore.
Ogletree is a knucklehead who seems to have issues keeping his head straigt & out of trouble. Pass on him as well. Could be a waste of talent when its all said & done.
WR & LB are my biggest wants. OLB or ILB will do since Reed offers some versatility at the position. Allen, Hopkins, or Patton would be nice at WR. If none of them in the 1st then maybe Williams or Dobson in the 2nd.
Some guys just are not track athlete.
If you want to see speed just put on the Miss St. game and watch him chase down a receiver from 7-8 yards behind.
Strength? A guy with 34" arm will always be at a disadvantage on the lift.
There isn't a O-lineman (be it a tackle, a guard, or a center that Moore had faced this year that can handle his combination of strength and quickness, not to mention his relentless motor.)
The guy has an excellent get-off.
He can run the arc very well and can also penetrate to the inside very effectively.
His lateral agility is what makes him a great player; and he can get off the ground and get back into the play quickly.
A guy who doesn't quit in the football field isn't a guy who can get by with poor work ethic.
Now I don't know if he's going to be a Pro-Bowler or not, but he's a darn good football plays and definitely a first rounder.

Finding quality role players is not that hard in comparison to finding players that impact games like Watt did this past year.
It's like asking would I rather have Von Miller out there on the edge with Watt in the middle....or Brooks Reed, James Casey, Connor Barwin, Ryan Harris, Garret Grahm and Justin Forsett...Sean Cody...ect...

Damontre Moore is suffering from the stat junkies who consider the combine more important than several years of game tape. Moore was a beast on film, but if all you look at is combine results, then he's not worth even a 2nd round grade.
It's funny how sometimes guys like this will move up or down based on a few tests. Last year we had Stephen Hill and Dontari Poe fly up the draft due to great combine workouts, yet neither one of them had great film to back them up. Eye of the beholder and all that... I'd take Moore with a late 1st and be happy.
