What would make you come? - Houston

Yankee_In_TX

Dance Lindsay!
What would it take for YOU to come to a Houston area UNOFFICIAL watch party?

I'm thinking about trying to get the Blue Crew back at Coaches because it is fairly centralized and they have NO PROBLEM reserving seats for us.

Yes, we had a few kitchen problems, but that was just the growing pains of a new bar.

So what would make you think "It's worth my time to leave my house/area of town and meet up with these folks" ?

R

You know it doesn't take much to get me there.

If it is a Blue Crew event, everyone is invited. I hope to meet more people at the watch parties this year.

As for temptations, life is full of them. We just need to make the right decisions and sometimes that is being with good people for a good game of football.

I'll try to make one, especially if its before/after a bye week or sometime that I'm planning on going to Spring anyway. I'm also up for any Austin watch parties...there aren't enough Texans fans in San Marcos (that I know anyway).

What would be cool is if there was a rotation.

"Coming soon to an establishment near you." That would take some effort. Too bad the Texans won't put someone on it. I am sure bar/grilles all over would love to host one.

Having it at the same place would be good for service though. They will start to like you and the $$ you bring.

Coaches is up on 290 ain't it? I bet its nothing like the Coaches on Bissonett back in the day though. Wild times there.

When the Texans are on the road the guys meet a few blocks away from my church. Going from church to a Texans' watch party is like getting a slice of cake with one of those frosting roses on it...sweet. I enjoy being with the blue crew (cause a few of em are jarheads) and face it, if you can't have fun around Bill...you're just not trying. I DO however wish that Lindsay would bring some of those hot cheerleader types with her...but that's just me. Cheerleaders are great ESPECIALLY cheerleaders who don't ask guys to cut their hair.

I'd really love to Ted, but I have a hard time resisting beer as it is while watchin' sports.. put me in a bar.. and it's like a bull in a china shop.

Different Coaches, this one is near downtown.

I always liked the theater in clear lake. They have 35 cent wings, half priced pictures and they show the game on the theater screen

I am out for watch parties. I teach Sunday School on non home game sundays. We usually get out of church a little after 12:00 and I can't miss as much of the game as it would take for me to drive that far.

Maybe I'm just dirty and immature but this thread title really needs to be changed...

That's the one by my house. 290 and Jones, I believe. Pretty far out, imo. :P

NOOOOOOOOO!! Not those Coaches....

The last time I saw people snort coke off of the bar was back in the day at the Bissonet one. It was outta hand back in the 80s and 90s. Lots of "nice girls, ha" around there then.

I don't venture too far into that area unless its work related.

Its been a while since I hit the Alamo Drafthouse for a flick. My bill was $107 for 4 people last time.

Zepp,
We have a good watch party crowd in Austin -- good mix of regulars and new faces rotating in and out. Third Base is the place -- just west of downtown Austin, near 6th and Mopac (Loop 1). Free parking. Attentive wait staff. Good environment. Heck, we even have the "1st down" yells down cold. More details to come as the season approaches.

Yankee,
My buddy Pat and I met the Blue Crew once last year before the Jags game. Met Grandma, Tedc, Texan_Bill, Stev-O, some others. Good times. I'd probably have a hard time convincing my wife and son that it is a good idea to drive to Houston for a watch party, unless the watch party actually involved game tickets. :) Sometimes, though, I find myself in Houston on family trips, so you never know.

You guys are welcome to join us in Austin anytime. If you think that is something that would be of interest to any of your crew, let me know, and we can see about making that happen.

At the very least, Spec is usually good for some sort of entertainment during the game.

I hope to get a group to Austin this year. I could see us meeting at Kimberly's in San Marcus and dragging her and Keith to Austin to watch the game with you guys.

I also hope you come back to the Blue Crew this year. You are welcome anytime.

I would go somewhere if they would promise to:
1. turn off the sound during commericals; and
2. give us Vandy and Andre on the audio instead of the TV announcers.

I easily see a Texans game / Blue Crew tailgating visit in my future this year. I am pretty sure Pat is game also, maybe a couple other buddies of ours too. I would try to make this a haiku, but I am far too verbose.

Pick a game that works for you guys for the Austin trek, and we will make it happen from our side.

A thought I had is that maybe a radio station could have "live from..." watch parties for road games. Make it a tour around the area if they could. Free stuff and door prizes would draw in some.

1560 has groupies. I saw them. Some of them were odd fellows but it was a crowd.

Texans won't support it and I don't know of a station willing to do it without them :(

The Texans won't support it because they want the radio stations and bars to pay thousands of dollars to get the Texans to offically support them.

Do you have to pay the Texans to say "We'll be watching the game at....."

I always thought it was total BS that no one can even say "Super Bowl" without being sued.
