Carroll was a defensive coach before arriving at USC. The offense you see the Trojans running is the work of Norm Chow (current Titans' OC...legendary offensive mind). Same reason I don't want Gary Kubiak in Houston. He has the title of OC in Denver but it's Shanahan's offense and it's Shanahan that's calling the plays during the game. I'd rather see how Kubiak can handle a head coaching position on any level first (he turned down the HC position at the University of Colorado before Barnett got there).beerlover said:time to shelf the 5 year plan and its architect's. this team was built to be competitive early using competent jouneyman NFL players ie Sharper, Walker, Glenn, Payne, Coleman etc......but it did'nt take long for Casserly to start monkey'ing around with the 1st day picks opting for once again established jouneyman players instead of building the team with talented, bpa.
right now my best solution would be to pry Pete Carrol away from USC (I believe USC is due a significant fall after this year) to replace Casserly. I think he knows talent, has been exposed to the best talent and would be an excellent choice to re-build the Texans, not to mention which one to take with the 1st pick. then hire the best NFL assistant coach who deserves a shot & who understands how to play and win in the NFL. a nice complement to Carrols offensive mind would be a defensive coach with Texas roots as added bonus, maybe some of you have already guessed who? yeah thats right its got to be Jerry Gray, defensive coach of the Buffalo Bills.
A native of Lubbock, TX, Gray holds a bachelor of science degree in speech communications from the University of Texas he was a two-time consensus All-America and two-time Southwest Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Year as a safety at Texas in 1983 and 84 was a 1st round pick in 1985 (21st overall) of the Los Angeles Rams a member of the University of Texas All-Time Team and All-Decade Team for the 1980s lettered in football, basketball and track at Estacado High in Lubbock was inducted into the Texas High School Hall of Fame in 1995 and was recently named to the All-Time Texas High School team he and his wife, Sherry, have one son (Jeremy).
