I haven't seen this question yet but what happens if Bush doesn't come out? I hope he does, and we do draft him, but he hasn't declared yet. If USC loses does he stay and try to win another national title.
Can you still draft Bush and retain his rights until next years draft as long as he's signed before draft day? Didn't an NBA team do something like that years back with a player?:confused:
 
You can't draft someone who hasn't declared for the draft. Reggie Bush is coming out. He has nothing left to prove at college and his stock can't get any higher than it is right now. His family is looking at agents right now and he has already purchased insurance for the Rose Bowl.
 
If he stays, then we seriously trade down. No one we need is then worth the top overall pick, including D'Brick. Maybe 2nd-5th, but not worth #1 overall.

If he doesnt.. or if he pulls an eli or anything like that.. I see us trading down.

If Bush stays in school, it would greatly reduce our trading abilities, as the only player that teams would be willing to trade up for would be Leinart, and the Saints want him and have the #2 pick already, so we could maybe find another team to trade but it would drive our bargaining power way down.

Agreed, I don't see him staying in school, he has nothing to gain by it as he is basically the consensus #1 pick and has a $50 million contract waiting, the only thing that could happen with him staying in college would be winning another championship but possibly getting hurt and losing out on a ton of money.

If he stays in the draft he will lose his eligibility to return to college football. Underclassmen have until a certain date (I don't know what it is exactly) to either stay in the draft or withdraw, but once he stays eligible after that date he can't go back to college and screw over whatever NFL team drafts him. The only NBA one I'm aware of is if a player is drafted and then goes to fulfill military duty (David Robinson) or returns home to Europe to continue playing there (a few players have done this but I can't think of any specific ones at this moment, but the team retains their rights for a couple years), however the NFL doesn't have any rivalries among other football leagues that players chose over the NFL.
 
If he doesn't come out, then the Texans had better hope that some team loves Leinhart enough to pay dearly to beat the Saints to the punch.
 
He's coming out, 100% guaranteed. He is already interviewing agents. He will not have the possibility of improving his draft status. If he stays, he would also lose next year's salary forever.
 
The NFL is also coming up with a bargaining agreement that limits how much rookies get paid statting next year.:twocents:
 
That would simply reduce our options for our first round pick. And that's just
what happened to the Texans prior to the 2003 Draft, but because of different kind of event. Its well known that the Texans were enamored with
Miami RB Willis McGahee, but he blew a knee out in the National Champoinship game between his 'Canes and Ohio State. Of course McGahee was taken much lower in the Draft because of his injury, but things have worked out for him at Buffalo. And things also worked out for the Texans, because even with their reduced options they made good use of their #3 overall in the 2003 Draft by selecting McGahee's WR teammate.
