What I learned today...

Being a realative newby to the draft obsession, I have learned several unpleasent lessons today because we didn't take DJ when he fell to us.

1. Don't blindly fall in love with a player.
2. Research more players... a lot more...and not just for name recognition.
3. BPA is probably more on par with team needs than I originally thought...I thought it was a lot more important.
4. There are only a few obvious picks per draft...much less than I originally thought.
5. Just because you know a lot, doesn't mean you know anything.

I must concur with you...This is the first draft I really followed and got to know most of the players, and I never would've guessed Chuck C would pick one of the guys that I assumed he'd never take...I learned many of the same lessons as you did...

part of me thinks we gambled and lost.. I don't know why I feel this but do.. I believe when we traded down 3 spots we knew that New Orleans was going to take a tackle.. which left us 2 spots until we picked again. I just have a feeling that we wanted either DJ or Davis.. and suprised they got sucked up back to back..

I am probably dead wrong on this, but I have just have a feeling
I am ok with the johnson pick, because we do need youth on our d-line

Ya will NEVER know which way CC will jump on draft day. That's what makes it so much fun (and frustrating to) to watch him.

I am just trying to block out how much I had hoped we would get DJ...I was literally jumping up and down when San Diego didn't take him...That was a rough swing of emotions...

Yeah I think they thought Carolina would go with Barron...but who knows...not worth worring about now.

Someone said the Texans have the largest scouting organization of anyone. So the stuff we get through the news doesn't compare with the stuff they get from watching and talking with these guys in person, watching and rewatching game films, talking to coaches, etc.

So while it's interesting to make guesses about what will happen, we don't have any of the real info. Makes it interesting and frustrating at the same time.
