What Draft decision would make you mad!!

El Tejano

Okay, we all talked about the possibilities of the things the Texans might do on draft day. Move up to get DJ, trade down and get Barron, stay put and see what falls in our lap...etc.

My question is who would you not want the Texans to get and what decision would they have to make to make your draft day suck lemons?

i dont want us to draft another tweener like ware or one of the cody's. other than that im fine w/anybody except a rb or a qb.

My top two: Marcus Spears and Matt jones in that order.

Nothing really gets me mad when it comes to a team’s draft. I think that is foolish to watch guys beat up College kids and think it automatically extrapolates to whipping NFL guys. I don't tend to be too critical of any draft until I see the prospects on the field with other NFL talents. Also, we don't see Medical histories, rap sheets or background checks so some guys will just slip for no apparent reason to the fans but may be a total thug, have a serious medical problem or be a risk of some sort.

I'm big on Ware btw (and a few others). I hope we take him if he is there. :heh:

Why do you think Babin was so much more productive than Ware in College?

The one pick that would make me mad is Fred Gibson. Don't draft anyone who would sell their Super Bowl ring.

Last season I got kind of upset when we drafted Dunta, and we see what happened there - I'm sure I'll have some level of disappointment if we don't draft guys I like but my perspective of what I think is talent is far different than how the scouts view them.

Also I flop around way too much before the draft to really get upset, so at some point hopefully that means someone I liked at one time will get drafted. :thumbup

I really wouldn't be too ticked of any of the people we draft but would be very disappointed if DJ was on the board and we let him go.

I would be pissed if we came back into the first round and drafted someone like Matt Jones. I also would hate it if we picked Alex Barron with the 13th pick, because he is not an upgrade in anyway.

I just think elite level ROLB edge rushers in 3-4 systems are rare. We have been in the league 4 years now and are still trying to find someone who can play the position. Peek has been here 3 years now and has 3 career sacks and has not shown enough in practice to get more field time. I think it would not hurt to be deep at this VERY important position. Gosslin was comparing him to the late Chief great, Derrick Thomas on the radio.

Come on Vinny, Ware is not even Close to D.T. You are like me I suppose and a decent historian of the game. You dont compare guys to hall of famers you know better. Ware is very good and I like to compare him to another very good OLB in Lavar Arrington. The kid is uncontrolled madness and will get to the QB if he had to go through his mom to do it. I like Ware and he would be a sweet pick for us if DJ is unattainable or Carlos Rogers gets taken early.

Gosselin was stating that is what he was hearing from NFL scouts. Gosselin doesn't pretend to scout, but he passes on info from his NFL contacts. We will see soon enough.

I'd be really disappointed if we were to trade up in order to get a guy like Barron who would likely slide to 13 anyway...This team can be upgraded at so many positions that it would be foolish to criticize our first round pick...If we make a pick that I'd not too keen on, I'll simply chalk it up to being part of the bigger plan and file it under the "Have Faith in Cass" folder in my file cabinet...So far, he hasn't disappointed :thumbup ...

Drafting Ware wouldnt be a high point for me.

I dont think our OLB situation deserves 1st round help.

I will be happy with one of the big 3 RB's, 3 WR's, 3 CB's, DJ, and Thomas Davis.

I could live with Benson but Barron will only make our O-Line more of a laughing stock.

JUST SAY NO TO BARRON

How would he make the line more of a laughing stock? I guess Barron is the guy everyone loves to hate this year...

Maybe "more of a laughing stock" was the wrong way to put it, but Barron is just not that good and would have no shot at starting or even playing meaningful minutes next year for us and then when you consider there should be a high talent level of offensive tackles coming out next year and we could pick one up one of them if the line does not improve this year. Also if we end up getting a guy like Baas would you really want in two years to have basically first year starters on the O-Line at LT and C look out David Carr.

If we draft Barron and Baas and feel they give us the best chance to win, they'll be on the field...I don't really think starting a "second year rookie" or two on the O-Line is a bad thing if they're better than what we have...I have already stated that the 06 OT class will be infinitely better than this one, but if Wand fails as a starter here, then would you feel comfortable starting Garrick Jones at LT?

The thing about Barron is that he may not have real passion for the game. You know? He may take a play off here and there and that can be very very costly for us. I wouldn't mind taking Barron if we could be sure that he's really passionate for the game. He seems to have all the physical attributes but what often seperates the good ones from the bad ones is intensity and passion for the game. At this level physically everyone is on the same level except a few here and there. So you got to have a desire to play and from what I've read everywhere he seems to lack that. And we cannot have a player playing the LT position if he's not going to be very passionate about the game.

The knock on him isnt his passion for the game. He NEVER takes a play off. His mechanics may need some tweaking, but mentally its not his fire for the game. Mentally his knock is that he's not MEAN enough to power guys with a block. He doesn't explode as much as he should off the snap.

I've read the same things, but it's funny how in all of the reports that say he is "unmotivated" they never really provide evidence to back it up...I've been on the "Barron doesn't have passion for the game" bandwagon for a while, but nobody has been able to back up that claim...

:heh: I don't even like Barron, though, and think our 1st rounder could be better spent, but for some reason I've been in the mood to defend him today  ...

NO RB! Everyone says Domanick Davis is injury prone, or cant carry the load and its BS. In his first 2 years he's gained 2219 rushing yards, 939 receiving yards, and 22 TDs. If we take an RB, it needs to be in the later rounds (5th or so). I also wouldnt be too happy if we took a Safety in the 1st round. Glenn Earl will keep progressing a hits HARD, and Marcus Coleman is great when healthy. No 3-4 LB tweeners either. I say if we go LB, either trade down for Darryl Blackstock who played in a 3-4 during college, or trade up for DJ who is just flat out amazing. Other than that, im good.

1. I'd be disappointed if we took a Thomas Davis and projected him as safety. If he is our ILB of the future, that would be an entirely different situation.

2. I don't want us to take an OT at 13 (the talent isn't there). I'd be extremely upset if we traded up to get Barron.

3. I wouldn't be stoked about taking TE Heath Miller, because I want to see what Joppru can do. While 2 TE's would be a nice luxury (see Indy in 2003 and 2004), I think we should go elsewhere with our 1st.

We could use help/upgrades at OLB, ILB, CB, WR, and RB with our 1st. I hope we go for one of these 5 positions.

I wouldn't be upset with any of them, if that is who the Texans think can help us win, then I don't presume to know more than they do. Unless they draft Hermann Monster, I am pretty much onboard, and even a Dead Hermann can hit like a ton of bricks, so it's all good to me. Having said that, we all have our personal favorites and people we don't like so much. For me, if they stay at #13, probably the guy mentioned that I don't want to see is Barron. Word has it that they prefer Barnes anyway, so I really don't see us going that direction. At this time, my two top wish list guys are Benson and Ware, followed very slightly by Carlos Rogers. Benson would do more (sorry DD) for the 2005 season than any other player in the draft imo. So, I don't want to hear any whining from all you high school draftniks if we take a back early. Live with it, deal with it, and when you see you are wrong, don't come crawling back to Porky saying you were clueless. :heh:

I'll be disappointed if we take Barron at 13.. I would feel that our scouting department dropped the ball on their scouting report for Wand.. That would mean we spent a 3rd and a 1st on a LT...Heck if that is the case we should have left Pitts there.

that is my initial feeling...yet, hard to judge how these guys do (given like Vinny said) being I don't have college tapes/interviews,rap sheet reports on these guys

I am as big a homer for the state of Texas as anyone, but IMO Ronnie Brown would impact the Texans more. Brown adds home-run speed without loosing versatility/completeness in the form of receiving and blocking.

Brown would add versatility... Benson doesn't block and he can't catch!

I don't know if this is a disagreement or not. Brown certainly wouldn't add any receiving threat--DD is as good as any RB at receiving. Blocking, hmmm, Brown is good against college competition, but DD has done pretty well in the NFL. Edge probably goes to Brown, but not by a huge margin.

I have heard Benson is the most complete out of the backs catching

Really, where?

"Is only average as a receiver."--NFL Draft Countdown.

".Is only average as a receiver"--Sportnutz (looks like a repeat though)

"He is an above average blocker and just an average receiver."--On the Clock.

I just want them to go for defensive help. CB, LB, DL or whatever. First round pick should mean immediate starter and immediate upgrade and our D needs an impact player more than the offense. Besides, all the sure fire impact offensive players will be gone by #13 and no O-lineman in this draft would be a significant upgrade right away. JUST SAY "D" CC!!

I must have edited while you were typing.. I meant blocking .... :shocked

Im not sold on Barron either but for less obvious reasons . I think he has tons of " Potential " but is not near the complete package or polished player that the Texans need in the first round . Another knock on him is that he's not a good run blocker , in a run oriented offense drafting him makes no sense to me .

If that's true, then CLEV, DAL, & SD may snatch him before us. I guess that means that DJ, Merriman and Ware will be top three 3/4 OLB prospects.

I really can't see any draft pick we make upsetting me. Truth be told we are not SOLID at any position. We lack the depth of a championship team at all areas. On O or D we just dont have any position especially on D where we can say we just are SET.

The only pick that would upset me is if we took Barron at 13. I would like us to get lucky and snatch DJ, Benson, Troy Williamson in the first, or trade down and get a late 1st+ extra 2nd.

I'd be pissed as hell if Cass took Barron at #13. He's says he'll take the BPA, so if he's not fibbing, then he won't piss me off. Barron at #13 is reaching for a need.

Erasmus James-Please don't take another chance on an injury prone player. I am talking about the 1st round here.

The only thing that will get me truly mad, assumeing we don't sell the barn to move up for someone, is to go through the whole draft without picking up a capable back up for DD. He don't have to be a stud, I'll be happy for a flyer guy late day two. I don't care what Holling's health status is. The board is loaded with them. Find one you like and pick him.

At 13 - Barron, Pollack, Dan Cody and James. All have to many questions or are not anything near value at 13

Trading up - just about anybody, I'm not for trading up for anybody in this draft.

Trading down - Roth, overachiever how I don't like espically in our system.
