What are the Conditioning Drill Requirments???

My sources tell me conditioning tests happen in mandatory minicaps or before training camp. They consist of timed wind sprints.

OB's reference to the all/most of the rookies not being in shape just means they were getting gassed in practice.

Don't assume VW is out of shape because of his size. As he says, I got a big stomach but it's sitting on a linebacker's body under there.

He may be more athletic than his size, but there is no way in hell he can outrun Strong or any WR in the league.

My sources tell me that the team likely sets a different benchmark for the guys who they expect to show up at >300lbs to the ones who are expected to show up ~200lbs.

I, too, would be intrigued to find out some ballpark idea of where these expectations lie, however, i seem to recall that teams have used this test in the past to keep problem players off their team. Was it Haynesworth who got the chop for failing the conditioning test in Washington? And there was lots of talk that it was simply a way to get him out the door there ( although my recollection is hazy and I cba to check google, I mean my sources)

My sources tell me they run timed gassers of varying lengths per team.

The Bears conditioning test...

The 300-Yard Shuttle Run
For this test, you need 50 yards of running room.

  • Start at the goal line.
  • Run to the 50-yard line. Touch the line.
  • Run back to the goal line. Touch the line.
  • Perform the down-and-back sequence three times for a total of 300 yards.
  • Rest for two minutes.
  • Repeat the 300-yard sequence.
  • Rest for two minutes and repeat the 300-yard sequence once more.

The goal is to complete each of your three Shuttle Runs under a certain time based on the position you play. Here are the time targets Trestman uses:

Position Players: complete each Shuttle Run in 58 seconds or less.
Small Linemen: complete each Shuttle Run in 64 seconds or less.
Big Linemen: complete each Shuttle Run in 68 seconds or less.

Who said he could? My sources say nobody.

Playoffs, you are a star collating all this information and bringing it to the board.

I don't actually bother searching for Texans news any more, I feel I get everything I need in one place and that is thanks to a select few on here who clearly put in a lot of effort to make it the resource it has become!

I'm actually surprised at how little difference there is in the time between the big heavies and the position players in this one, I knew these guys had to be incredibly fast at covering 5-10 yards but didn't realise they could perform drills like this only a few seconds slower than some of the track athletes we see at the skill positions.

68 seconds, for 300 yards, with 5 full stops/change of direction? That's damned impressive that an O-lineman can make those numbers after the third set.

I hope this isn't what we do. Running for 58-68 sec full out is not at all representative of what you need to be in FB shape. I'm not sure why they haven't moved away from the old school gassers
