Were people actually upset the the Texans lost?

I have been away all weekend and haven't been on here however I heard a couple of people on the radio bichin about how the Texans lost the game or didn't go for OT.

OK, first off if I were a Cardinals fan I would not be happy about winning that game because when the starters were out there the Texans were whippin their tails. So that being said as a Texans fan I am pretty excited about what I saw. Mario blowing up that tackle and taking down Leinhart, Schaub's long TD pass to AJ, etc. The defense was playing nasty, etc.

I honestly could care less what happened in the last half of the 4th QTR when a bunch of scrubs are out there who probably won't even be on the team.

All the 4th QTR told me is the Texans are in trouble if the NFL goes on strike next season and our scabs have to play the Cardinals scabs. Other than that I feel real good about the Cards game with exception to Tate ending his season and Slaton demonstrating that he still can't hold on to the ball.

This is the first time under Kubiak that we've looked like an NFL team in the preseason. Other than Slaton, was there anything that didn't look like an NFL team in week 3 or 4? A few issues, sure... but for the most part this team looked ready to start the season tomorrow. If you're upset about this game... I dunno, when it mattered we looked great. So other teams might pick apart AZ's cuts... and leave ours alone... the difference? There actually IS a difference between our first and third teams... it doesn't look like there is much of one in AZ.

Yes, there were people upset that the Texans lost. Just listen to the morons calling in to the talk shows. It's sickening. They are the very same people who are absolutely clueless about the game, and probably mentally challenged in all other aspects of their lives.

Most football fans are just downright stupid.

Newsflash to the fans: Our starters beat Arizona 16-0.

Our third teamers lost to Arizona 19-0.

Which one really matters more?

The only thing fans should still be talking about is how our starting D-line collapsed the pocket in a way this team never has in its history.

Put it this way...would you rather have had this outcome Saturday...

Texans 1s dominate Cards 1s (offense and defense)
Texans 2s dominate Cards 2s (offense and defense)
Cards future grocery baggers dominate Texans future used car salesmen.

or...

Texans offensive 1s get sacked, shutdown, and shut up. Defense gets torched by a Fitz bomb and torn up on the ground
Texans 2s get more of the same
Texans led by Booty get 3 scores in the last half quarter to squeak out a win.

I'll take option 1 please.

In the regular season this would have been a 4+ TD ball stomping by our boys. No doubt.

I'll say what I say every year....preseason is crap. It is reps against other teams to get the kinks out. 1-15 Cowboys went 4-0. Super Bowl Cowboys went 0-4 and 1-3. Key is 1st team gets in rhythm and no injuries.

It was actually 10-0 but that was only in ONE quarter of play!! Thats whats impressive.

I dont know whats more impressive; the fact that Mario is on pace for 128 sacks or that our offensive starters are on pace to score 40 points a game!

Hahaha!

I was more pleased by their play through the third quarter than anything. But it was a little disappointing to see the Texans blow a 16 point lead late in the game. I know this game did not mean anything, but I would always rather see the Texans win than lose.

But it was a little disappointing to see the Texans blow a 16 point lead late in the game.
But don't you realize that the players on the field for the Texans in the fourth quarter who gave up the lead and then the game are just a collection of reserves/"bench-warmers" who will end up either being cut or on the practice squad by the start of the regular season ?

In a way , you've arrived as a team when you can blow off preseason games . That win or lose it doesn't matter because your stars didn't play much . Bad teams live or die with the preseason .

Personally, I thought we put an absolute ass whoopin on them. Hell, our 2's on D stopped their offense with ease.

The only thing I was kind miffed about was our redzone O. If I ever see a stupid ass reverse again it'll be too soon. Man, I can't stand them! Then a false start after that play? WTF?

Then Slaton? Good grief, dude? You were barely hit and you fumble the ball? You could've got in if you didn't attempt to go over the pile

The only people I've heard complain have been casual (and I use that term loosely) fans that really don't know that much about football. My MIL for example. She called my wife after the game and said "It looks like you wasted your money on tickets again, more of the same. They blew it in the fourth quarter like always!". And she was serious as could be. I'm surprised my wife didn't hang up on her, LOL!

Did you see how Arizona was reacting after that game? Didn't they just come off back to back play-off appearances? Weren't they in the Super Bowl two years ago?

have their expectations fell so far so fast?

I found that very interesting.

Seattle was also extremely happy to have won their pre-season game.

I remember being thrilled when we won in the pre-season. My thinking then, was a win is a win, and we'd better celebrate them while the getting was good.

Ah.. those were the days.

I'm still excited by how good our 1's and 2's looked. Lots of great things to come away with from that game.

My only real downer was losing Tate. I really think that him and Foster would make a great 1-2 punch with Slaton brought in from time to time for screens and things. Now, Foster is going to have to carry the load with Slaton brought in to spell him from time to time.

I want to see Jeremiah against better competition. I'd love to see him with the 2's against the Saints.

have their expectations fell so far so fast?

They did lose Kurt Warner...

And the year they went to the superbowl weren't they 8-8?

Maybe they were thinking they got lucky/hot at the right time and that their superbowl run wasn't really a reflection on how good the team was...

I know I felt like that a lot during the capers era...except that 2-14 season...I thought that was a pretty accurate reprensentation

The 2008 Detroit Lions went 4-0 in the pre-season.

I almost wish they wouldn't keep pre-season standings because it's pointless.

Yeah, the Texans end up getting the L in the standings but what really happened out there on the football field? The Texans 1st teamers, you know, the guys who will be playing all 4 quarters when the season starts, they dominated - on both sides of the ball! And the guys who will have regular 9 to 5 jobs in 3 weeks, got their asses kicked.

In my pre-season standings the Texans are 1-0 with a 10-0 victory over the Cardinals.

The object of pre-season is NOT wins and losses. The object of pre-season is getting your starters ready and evaluating talent. THAT'S IT!!! Wins and losses don't mean jack squat!!!

Kubiak with a blown call at the end? Puhlease. Pre-season football is not the same game. Playcalling will be based more on what they're trying to take a look at and NOT so much the game situation. In the case Saturday night, it may have been about just getting the hell out of town. It's a looooong pre-season.

Don't know why we bother with this though. This makes 9 years in a row that people get bent about pre-season wins and losses.

Again, the Detroit Lions were the 2008 NFC North pre-season division champions!!!!! They went 0-16 in 2008.

I was not upset that they lost the game, but I was bothered by the way that they lost it.

The Texans didn't score any touchdowns from the red zone. They were inside the Arizona 20 on 4 posessions (one of these by our #1s, the others by our #2s), and came away with 3 field goals and a fumble. It's not that I wanted the points to win the game so much as I wanted to see that this team had finally learned how to score touchdowns when in the red zone. This has been a problem for the team for a while, and I saw no improvement! I can't believe that more people aren't worried about this.

When I'm looking at the team in preseason, I want to see how individual players are doing, how team units (especially the #1s, but also the #2s) are performing as a whole, and even get some feel for the intangible aspects of the team. The failure to score from the red zone, as well as blowing a lead at the end of the game, gave me little to feel happy about as far as that more intangible "attitude" area. As I agreed with some other poster in another thread - there was a deja vu feeling to seeing the team miss opportunities early in the game, then end up blowing a lead and losing at the end. I want to see the team scoring from the red zone, and happy to do it. I want to see them getting a lead and fighting hard to hang on to it, regardless of which players are actually playing.

I hear exactly what you are saying, I do not disagree.

But in respect to Kubiak, he can't be thinking this team dominated on both sides of the ball. He's got to find something they need to get better at.

If you were him, what would you want to work on with the 1st team?

excatly.

pre-season is all about improvement, making your team better getting ready for the regular season, sounds like to me most of you just need a :grouphug:

In a way this tells the tale of our entire history and points out why we should be excited about watching this season unfold. These games used to matter to me because when our 1s/2s came out of the game I was not satisfied and therefore longed for the scrubs to find a way to win in order to feel better about the team. This game I was just looking for a couple fringe players to stand out that might be able to contribute, couldn't have cared less about the outcome.

Bravo

This...i couldn't believe people were actually calling in about us not winning a freaking preseason game...unbelievable..

Absolutely NOT!

I was thrilled at how our 1's played and happy about our 2's also. "Bout time we looked ready to go at the beginning of the season instead of 2/3 of the way through.....

My concerns:Neither QB back up earned his check. Foster better be prepared for a whole lotta carries. Holliday is playing himself off the roster. Mitchell who? Bye, Bye Chris White.

Positives: Whoa Troy Nolan came to play. BING, BING,BING! Darnell Bing and Sharpton seemed to be lining up the probowl!

Smile on my face: Schaub to Andre Johnson. How sweet it is!

I was upset right after the game only because in the heat of the moment it's hard to not want to win everything. I'm fine now because if our starters played the whole game it would have been a big win. They all looked sharp.

I loved seeing how Sharpton, Bing, and Nolan played. It's nice to see guys in the later game that could play for an NFL team rather than watching guys in the first quarter that shouldn't be playing for an NFL team.

I was pretty pissed in the manner of which we lost the game, which then turned to me getting pissed that we lost. But that's because I want to win every game, preseason or regular season.

It was frustrating to watch the 4th quarter, but I take solace in the fact that if it had been a real game and both teams played their starters we would have won by 20+ at least. The first and second units looked awesome and that's all that really matters.

Yes Kevin. People were actually upset. 'Nuff said by the bolded. Sure, were there a couple of things that need work, absolutely. That said, I was generally pleased.

This. I've already grown tired of the people calling into the radio talk shows and whining their asses off. It's preaseason.......seriously? I could understand being concerned if we played like crap, but I thought we dominated when it mattered.

:goodpost: Right on, Right on. Was impressed with all 3. Can't decide which one I was more excited to see their play level! Like you said "guys in the later game".

I'm stoked!

Right!! I've been listening to asshat callers all day. At first I was kinda pissed, but the more I listened the more I laughed at them..

One dude yesterday said the season was over because we didn't sign Thomas Jones . I could have gotten 3.5 yards a carry behind the Jets OL .
