Welcome to Houston Christian Harris

Tons of teams passed on him and him refusing to get surgery was a major red flag
only injury I know of was a shoulder from 2020 and he has played well since. I noted somewhere that watching him play last season he began slowly and as he built confidence he could still hit, played at a high level. I don't recall surgery being discussed let alone him refusing. Please provide a lick so I can review. Thanks!

Haven't researched Harris at all so what's the general consensus on him?
I want the non Kool aid version please...😜

Don’t care. Different team, different system, different coaches different leadership. Again dude balled out in several games I watched. for where we got him I very good. He’s fast he’s physical and I think he is going to be fun to watch. If he’s used to his strengths.
Dude are you arguing with yourself?

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

I think I replied to myself one time. Often I'm reading through so quickly I seldom look at the poster I'm replying to just the comment.

I'm just waiting to take a different side of a comment I posted originally.

Example

"We should not have drafted Derek Stingley at number three due to his severe lisfranc injury and high risk."

Reply

" drafting Stingley was the best thing we could have ever done and I am not that concerned about his lisfranc at all."

Could you see Garrett Wallow & Christian Harris on the field at the same time?

I'm asking because these are the LBs the Texans drafted. Traded up to get both of them.

Are the Texans building their "new" LB corps, meaning the plan is that both Wallow & Harris would be starting together,

Or are they look for a particular type... meaning Harris was drafted as a better version of Wallow?

They're roughly the same size, both converted DBs... more speed than muscle.

I'm thinking they were both drafted to fill a particular role. One will hopefully be a starter, the other will be depth/STs

I'm seeing Harris taking over the Urlacher Mike role in the Tampa 2, using his speed to cover the deep middle zone while being a kind of in-the-box safety.

I'm seeing Wallow as more of a Will.

So, yeah, if they both work out, they could both be on the field at the same time.

But I could be wrong.

I believe both could take that role as the WiLL... but wasn't Urlacher the MIKE? Big enough to play the run.

I don't see Wallow or Harris big enough to play either Mike or SAM.

Given what I understand as traditional 4-3 LBs.

I'm thinking if they arr both on the field, let's say Mike & Will, then we're looking at something new.

Something I think we were seeing last season as none of the LBs had good size. They were "smallish" & these guys (Wallow & Harris) are smaller

But that's what I'm saying. I expect Harris to go into the Mike even though he's undersized.

Times have changed and the focus is more on covering the middle zone than stopping the run. If they can bulk him up a bit and put some more muscle on him without sacrificing speed and quickness, I think he'll be fine as the mike. I mean, Sam Mills at 5'9" and 230# was an ILB.

I could be wrong, but I think that's what they're attempting.

Dat Nguyen was 5-10 238, he also played ILB.

Dat Nguyen & Zach Thomas may have been short, but they weren't small. They were thick & imposing. Little brick walls.

Wallow & Harris are lean. They have to tackle like DBs, going for the legs, wrapping up & holding tight.

As long as they get the job done. I'm fine with it.

I just think it will be interesting to see both Wallow & Harris on the field at the same time.

Yep Harris about 223 and Wallow 230 and why I can see Harris at safety with his speed and that position allowing him to focus on opponent rather than ball. Tackling that you describe exactly what I want. Tired of seeing players even big strong guys bounce off of ball carrier.

I wonder what the odds are that Lovie is trying to revolutionize one of those two LB positions to include hybrid players like Harris?
Along the lines of a big nickel formation but with three LB...
I don't know just thinking out loud

I like this pick.

Harris will either be Lovie's Urlacher, or if he's not up to that I can see him being a very good WLB at worst. Dude has talent and was a leader on the Alabama defense. I'm buying in on this, guys talented and Lovie knows LB's.

You really think that Hairston (a 5'10" 231 lb) UDFA DE is going to start at LB and Hughes and Addison are both going to sit?

The days of 250lbs lbs are almost gone unless you can run. Teams would get those old school thumpers, put them in space and eat all day like they did with McKinney.

I think they are focusing more on speed now instead of the big and slow
bingo. Speed is the premium here. Thats why bringing a big load like Maliek Collins back and Roy Lopez’ development was/are huge. Those guys are large enough to function as plugs against teams like Tenn…but are also quick enough to penetrate against team who like to press the edges and/or drop back and pass it.

and the rook thomas booker….hes not a small man either from what i hear.

Now that you mention it, none of our starting LBs were close to 250lbs

Cunningham, Kirksey, KGH.

No more than I think Lovie will set his defense as I posted. Hairston would be quick to QB positioned next to Greenard who offense will have to account for. If purpose is to disrupt QB, let's use more guys.

5'10 231 is good size for a DB blitz although we don't see many of those. Addison and Hughes will be used on a rotational basis from what we've been told that should not impact a fifth person on the line.

Yeah, I'm hoping that Harris phases Kirksey out
So right now, if Harris phases out Kirksey, how do you see our starting LBs?

KGH, Harris, Wallow?

KGH, Harris, Pierre-Louis?

KGH, Harris, Cashman?

I don't think we'll see a great deal of base 4-3

I've seen comparisons between Harris and Derrick Brooks pertaining to Lovies cover 2, and physically I think it's a valid comparison.
But Brooks was a Will.
Is there confirmation that Harris will be a Mike? Or is there a chance that Lovie is trying to fill that Brooks role?

I do see Harris at Mike on the current depth chart. How official is that?
