Week 7 GameDay Thread: The Greenbay Packers!

Lucky

Ride, Captain, Ride!
Staff member
Green Bay has played:
Eagles
Colts
Titans
Vikings
Rams
Cardinals

The Eagles, Colts, Vikings and Rams all had over 100 yard rushing games against the Packers.

The Titans had 40 yards rushing and the Cardinals had 90.

I think Mixon alone could go for 110.

I would say don’t air it out too much go 3 and out and give Love more time with the ball since our secondary and LBs are banged up.
How 'bout the research by TexansBull!

Looks like they're wearing all white this week fwiw

I hope Tunsil can afford some white gloves.

For me, the formula to win on offense is simple, yet difficult to execute.

In short, be a TOP machine, but efficiently so. This will keep Love and company on the bench. This protects a very very depleted defense. I’d shoot for 40 minutes which is extreme, but a good goal, while aiming for a min of 27 points. This is where efficiency comes into play. Essentially, I’m looking for a Colts like performance on offense.

to do this…deploy Mixon early and often. Establish the tone, and setup play action and a few deep shots to loosen them up and hopefully hit a big one. But mostly, grind clock and keep the chains moving…but also score when crossing the 50. At least 3, preferably 7. And don’t give the Pack a cheap score or extra chances by turning the ball over.

All easier said then done, but for this game…I see that as our best chance to walk out of there with a W.

That is exactly what I expect Slowik to do and if so, I can almost guarantee a loss. We should go hard and fast down the field with accurate passing and mix in Mixon when the other team is not expecting him to get the ball. Score quick and as often as possible as GB defense cannot stop CJ. 17 points first Q. Keep accelerator down through the first half and allow our defense to handle Love.
The second half when our defense begins to wear down, is when our running backs should pound the ball and eat up the clock. Love can have a Josh Allen game.

Coming up.
The Packers!
This game is no joke.
Jordan Love is a good quarterback.
The Packers have a top running game.
Our Texans go into this game with a wounded defense.
Lassiter possibly out. To'oto'o possibly out. Ward possibly out. Al-shaair possibly out. Edwards suspended. The only good point is that Autry will be back.
Who will step up on defense?
The defensive line should still be good. The line backers and secondary are where the questions will be against a potent running attack.
The offense will be without Collins but having Mixon and Pierce back should cover that loss.
Diggs and Dell are still a formidable receiver combo but Schultz needs to catch the ball.
This will be a close one on the road.
This game could go either way.
Let's see how the defense holds up.
Should the defense put up a respectable performance against Love and that running game, Stroud should take care of the rest.
Texans 27 Packers 23 in a tough game on the road.
Another game like the Vikings game.

Houston Texans at Green Bay Packers: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 7 game

C.J. Stroud vs. Jordan Love, a big-name showdown is on tap for this weekend as the Green Bay Packers host the Houston Texans this Sunday.

The Packers are in a strange situation. They currently have the fourth-best point differential in the NFL. They also have the fourth-best point differential in their own division and are currently in last place in the NFC North despite a stellar 4-2 record. The Texans' great play, meanwhile, has them in first place in the AFC South by a wide margin heading into Week 7.

Although there is still a lot of season left to go and the Texans could implode at any point, the situation right now is much more dire for the Packers, who need to keep up with the NFC's elite teams like the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions.

CJ Stroud 68.3 accuracy; on pace for over 4500 yards.

Let him loose, Slowik!
Heard a stat during the broadcast last week that our D was giving up a league best 52% accuracy, which had dropped to 50% at one point in the game, good to top the league, next best D was 57%.

So for all the niggles about not consistently turning the ball over or sucking the QB, we’ve actually been the hardest team to pass on by some margin.

Let’s see if that holds up with our injuries and against a decent QB.

Love will find explosive plays if there are openings. Lets hope he doesn’t have time more often than not.

Mixon/Pierce need to drain that clock so the good guys can play keep away from Love. Keep the DL nice and fresh so they can rush the passer 100% and help out the backups in the back 7.

Definitely have nothing against the Texans. Always liked that team.
I loved watching the Packers with Favre and Aaron Rodgers. I was jealous as hell how you guys managed to always have a franchise QB. I like Jordan Love, but I don’t know if the QB trend will continue in GB. He’s definitely fun to watch when he’s on his A game.

Kroger brand anything in my experience are painfully bland.

Not really an ice cream connoisseur, although I think the bluebell obsession is over rated I can't see me ever picking kroger brand #1.

Generic HEB brands tend to be good IMO. Tillamook is pretty good too.

They've got 17 turnovers on the year in 6 games. Surely that can't be sustainable. Taking care of the ball should be the highest priority. Make them play from the 20 & hopefully our makeshift defense can hold them under 20.

Due to injuries, this is the first game where the opponent has more weapons than the Texans offensively. The Texans have to prevent this game from being a shootout. They have to protect their undermanned defense. How do they do that?

While they lack a few WRs (Nico!), they have a full stable of RBs. This is a game that they need to run heavy to win. Shorten the game for their undermanned defense. Protect the football and play field position. Limit the Packers possessions and make them drive the length of the field for points. The Packers are going to get their big plays and points, but don’t make it easy for them with a short field/turnover.

And if they can add to Love’s INT count to win the turnover battle and steal a possession or three that would give this team the edge it needs to leave Lambeau 6-1!

Today is it! Sunday, October the 20th at 12 noon central time, our Texans go into Lambeau Field to take on the Greenbay Packers!
This game will be aired live locally in Houston on CBS, the game can be steamed live on the NFL+ and Paramount+ apps, and the game can be listened to on Sports Radio 610 AM on the radio and the Audacy app.
This will be a big test. Will we see a repeat of what happened in Minnesota or will the Texans be ready this time?
We shall see!
The keys to this game will be...
1) The backups must play well! The Texans defense is severely hobbled with To'oto'o, Al-shaair, Lassiter and Ward out with injuries and Edwards out on suspension. One bright spot will be getting Autry back from suspension. The backups must step up and play well, especially the linebackers. Greenbay has a good run game and the defense must slow that down and keep the Packers offense one dimensional. Force Love into 3rd and longs and allow those pass rushers to pin their ears back and put pressure on him. Don't make the banged up linebackers and secondary have to cover the receivers too long. Love is 28th in the league in passer rating under pressure and has thrown 6 picks. Get pressure on him and force him to make mistakes!
2) The run game! With Mixon and Pierce back, the Texans must establish the run game. The Packers defense is average against the run game. The line needs to block and open up holes for the Texans runningbacks. They need to be affective to balance out the Texans offensive attack and open up the run, play options and play action pass. Oddly enough, the packers weakness is in the middle of that defensive line. Attack them there. Get yards in the run game up the middle and using the Wham packages to the edges.
3) Tightends need to step up! Schultz needs to catch the ball when he is targeted. He can't drop the ball or deflect it to a defensive player. He also needs to block well in the run game as does Stover. The Packers defense is 29th in the league at slowing or stopping tightends in the passing game so this weakness needs to be exploited. Schultz and Stover need to break out.
4) Win the turnover battle! The Packers have 17 takeaways so far this season. CJ is good at protecting the ball, although he has 4 interceptions and a fumble himself this year. He needs to be very aware of the Packers defense and make good decisions with the ball to avoid turning it over. On the other hand, Love has thrown 6 interceptions in his 4 games. If he's pressured, he has a tendancy to try to put the ball in widows that are too tight and he makes bad throws. Get after him and keep him under extreme pressure to help out the banged up secondary and he is highly likely to turn the ball over!
5) Limit the penalties! The Texans can't make stupid mistakes and commit avoidable penalties. Penalties have been a problem most of the year and have stalled drives and kept enemy drives alive all season. The Texans could overcome the penalties against lesser teams, but these Packers are too good to make stupid mistakes and get penalties. The O-line needs to limit the mistakes, protect Stroud, open up holes for the run game and keep drives alive to limit Love's time on the field.

If the Texans can go into Greenbay ready and accomplish these 5 keys to the game, they can come out with a win.
They won't stop Love and the Greenbay offense completely. The Packers will put up points. The Texans just need to limit them and put up points of their own.
I think the Texans can.
It should be a very good, high scoring, close game. I'm going to revise my original score prediction.

Texans 37, Packers 34

What say you?

GO TEXANS!!!

Gonna be a tough go today I’m thinking. Out 3 defensive starters I think.
Run game has to step up and keep the Pack O on the bench!

*puts on homer goggles*

Yes, the Texans have several starters out. But who are the core members of this team?

Stroud, Anderson, Stingley, Hunter, and good ole Tunsil!

Granted, Nico is a significant loss to the offense. But the other four heads of the five-headed monster are playing.

And Al-Shaair is the defensive captain, but he is not the player offensive coordinators wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat worrying about how they will limit his impact. Those guys are playing (Anderson, Hunter and Stingley).

DeMeco has a reputation of getting the most out of his LBs. His defense is to LBs what the old Denver ZBS was to RBs. Plug a LB in and watch them have a career year!

The stars of this team are playing. They were brought here to win football games. It’s time to go win!

Texans inactives:

ILB Azeez Al-ShaairG Nick BroekerCB Kamari LassiterWR Steven SimsILB Henry To'oTo'oFS Jimmie WardWR Robert Woods

I think this game will define the Texans as they are now. They need an identity. I'm not sure other good teams fear the Texans

Toughest Places to Play
Arrowhead Stadium — Kansas City Chiefs.
Lambeau Field — Green Bay Packers.
AT&T Stadium — Dallas Cowboys.
Highmark Stadium — Buffalo Bills.
M&T Bank Stadium — Baltimore Ravens.
CJ would put Met Life at the top of that list. He HATES that place.

We go weeks without anyone starting a gameday thread, and then we have 2. Must be a big game.
