Week 13 Around the NFL

Happy thanksgiving guys, it’s nothing over here, but a nice bonus to watch some football on a Thursday evening. Interesting watching Caleb trying to come back, game looked beyond reach.
 
In his first 4 years with the Cowboys, Ezekiel Elliot had three 300+ carry years. Maybe it's that workload or injuries, but at 29 years old, that guy is washed up. He had 1 carry against the Texans and just one carry again today. What happened to him?

Eberflus: Final seconds handled 'the right way'

Bears coach Matt Eberflus said he didn't call Chicago's last timeout in the final seconds of Thursday's game because he was conserving it to set up a field goal attempt.

"I like what we did there," Eberflus said. "Again, once it's under seven [seconds], you're going to call a timeout there -- actually under 12 and then really you don't have an option because it's third to fourth, you have to throw it into the end zone then.

"To me it's -- I think we handled it the right way, I do believe that you just rerack the play, get it in bounds and call timeout, and that's why we held it and didn't work out the way we wanted it to."

Even if that were the case, it took 26 seconds to snap the ball, and 8 seconds after they were lined up. If nothing else you call a TO just to see what the **** is taking so long to line up.

Maybe the players were expecting the timeout and that's why it took so long to get into formation? I don't know. We see plays all the time where a pass is completed downfield and players sprinting 30 yards to get lined up in 10-12 seconds or so. They were lined up at 14 seconds, which coming off a sack shouldn't have taken that long, and didn't snap the ball until 6 seconds.

That was a complete disaster anyway you look at it.

The thinking (imo) is that its 3rd down and the Bears have 1 timeout left. They wanted to run the 3rd down play, get in better field position, call the timeout and kick a FG to tie the game. Caleb Williams, for whatever reason, called an audible, had no sense of urgency and didn't snap the ball until there were 5 seconds left in the game. Eberflus had too much trust in his rookie QB to know what to do in that situation.

And now eberflus is unemployed
 
I'm thinking Slowik is a Sith on the spectrum. He had to influence KCs OC on all of those up-the-middle runs when the run clearly wasn't working and on that ill-conceived shovel pass inside the 10. Obviously, Reid is a Jedi master and can fend off enough of Slowik's influence to get them to another win.
