Gannon has broken vertebrae in his neck

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -- Oakland quarterback Rich Gannon has a broken vertebrae in his neck that will sideline him at least six weeks.

Gannon had an MRI exam Monday morning and was taken for further tests. Coach Norv Turner didn't believe Gannon was at risk for paralysis and said Gannon was walking around the team's training facility before receiving the news about his neck. ``He will be out an extended period. A six-weeks deal, or maybe longer,'' Turner said. ``It's disappointing.

I'd almost rather see Gannon than Collins. Collins looked real solid last night against the Bucs. He seemed to spread the wealth, hitting his WR's, TE's, and RB's with great results. If he does this again...we may be in trouble.

Yeah, I'd rather be seeing Gannon than Collins too. Collins is going to lock that job while Gannon is out.

Out Implies he'll be back

He broke his neck, I don't think he'll be back again. Breaking your neck when your an old man is not something you want to risk injuring again.

Gannon possibly is out for the season and Collins will start in his place. I think Collins is more dangerous than Gannon if we don't have a good rush on him. He will turn the ball over if we have people in his face all the time. If he gets enough time he has a better arm than Gannon and will hurt you.

ya when I saw that happen and heard the extent of is injury I know that I just watched the last time that Gannon will ever take a snap under center for the Oakland Raiders, possibly in the NFL, his career might be over. Also the Raiders are probally the only team that improves when their starting QB is out. I share your concerns, they were pretty impressive sunday night. Their coach really likes to strech the feild and Kerry is a better fit for his system than Gannon is, so this injury actually made the game harder for us. They are going to test our rookie all day long.

Really is to bad about Gannon. Pretty good guy from what I can gather. Probably the end to his career. I think the results for this game are pretty simple to predict. No pressure = no win. Collins has proven to fold under pressure, but if there isn't any, he will cut us apart.

According to MSN he is expected to miss 6-8 weeks. I'm not sure if that will work out as they anticipate but they are not saying he will miss the entire year.
