RB will put on a defense. Especally Dungy's two deep zone. If he was just ten pounds heavier I'd be more comfortible with it. How do you pass up a chance to land a play maker of his tallent ? Just ever since the Bosselli fiasco, I was looking forward to our stud on the offensive line. Spread 'em out and chunk the ball. Hope they try to move Mathis befor the draft to pick up an extra pick. If Bush is on the team, Mathis is a very expensive KR.
I would still love to get D'brick, even at #1. He bulked up to 312 to show he was serious about doing what ever it took to reach his maximum potential as a LT. Bush is an amazing athlete, but until he gets in the open field we won't see any of that. In the NFL he won't be able to bounce everything to the outside like he did at USC. Look at Kevin Jones his rookie year in Detroit. Until the coaches got him running north and south he was uninspiring at best. I think Bush is better between the tackles than people give him credit for, especially in a zone scheme, but he just hasn't shown me the running power you look for in a top 5 back.
Brown, Benson, C. Williams, Tomlinson etc. all run with alot of power and break tackles at or even behind the line of scrimmage and still have break away speed(Mayby not Benson). These are the type of feature backs I look for in the top 5. I won't go so far as to call Bush an over hyped Michael Bennett, but he has too many question marks surrounding his transition to the NFL to make him a lock at #1.
Will he make the transition? Probably, but is it really worth the gamble? It all depends on how much risk you are willing to take on a prospect. Somebody will gamble on Bush(probably us), and somebody will gamble on Young. It may pay off huge and they end up as super stars that every team wishes they had, or they may be backups in a few years. I don't gamble with my own money, and I wouldn't gamble with the #1 pick either. Marrio Williams, D'brick and mayby Hawk are pretty much the closest to a sure thing in this draft and I would prefer we got one of them and insured the Texans improve this year, instead of gambling for a quantum leap.
I think once you factor in need and risk, D'bricks value is higher than Bushs. He is a bigger upgrade over Pitts than Bush is over Double-D and he upgrades 2 positions with 1 pick, much like D-rob in '04. We could easily solidify our O-line for the next decade with a trade down for D'brick and either Mangold or Winston. D'brick and Winston would be franchise book ends or if we got mangold, Pitts and D'brick would handle the Tackle positions.
Either way I think Texans fans have alot to be excited about with so many great choices for us, and Hopefully which ever way we go the Texans will never be picking first again. Whether it's getting a running back who rushes for 1,500 yards every year or protecting Carr so he can throw for 3,500 without the 1,000 lost to sacks, we have nowhere to go but up.
As for Mathis being an expensive Kick Returner, his salary is less than $500k and isn't even high enough to count against the cap. I believe only his $120k bonus counts.
