Was Bush our Carlos Beltran?

Wolf

100% Texan
I liked Bush, and I will enjoy seeing him make the highlight reel with the Saints. Would I have minded him in a Texans uniform? Yeah I would

but my question is would we have gotten more bang for our buck?
To me Bush is to DD and Carlos Beltran is the Willie T.. Bush will leave you breathless on some plays, but DD will be solid (as long as he stays healthy) and steady. Say with the new OL and everything, DD gets 1100-1200 yards (which if the line is fixed and we get the schemes figured out, that shouldn't be much of a stretch) .. Bush should get the same if not a little more in N.O. splitting time with Duece.

Would Bush have been worth 60 million back in the backfield splitting with DD for a couple of seasons?

Good point.. It's even worse in NO in that with Bush and Deuce; they're going to have a 150 MM backfield with DMac, RB ,and Brees. At least Saints will be fun to watch...probably will be in top 5 again.

Do you all think that the off-field antics the Bush family are involved in influenced our decision?
They keep saying No, but it wouldnt surprise me. Notice that reports were saying we were close to a deal until Casserly reportedly talked to Reggie and his lawyers? Plus, this situation with him looks like it could potentially get really ugly.

As I recall, it was Beltran's agent who screwed us, but let's not get a couple of facts to muck up an illogical comparison.

Besides, I believe, not sure, maybe someone could help me out here, my recall is going real bad these days, but didn't the team that didn't get Beltran go to the World Series that season.

Yes, it might be coming back to me now.

The only way we can be penalized or not picking bush, is if we don't have a productive run game..... never mind DD's stats, it's about total production out of the running game.

if N.O. is #1 in russhing yards, and we're #10, I can see some folks being upset.

But if we're 9-7 in 2006, and N.O. is 6-10, I had a hard time agreeing.

I believe that was his point. We didn't need Beltran to make it to the Series. So why would we need Bush to make it to the play offs. Plus Beltran was way way over hyped and NY wasted alot of money on him. I think that would of been the same with us. Like Beltran, Bush is talented but worth 60 million?

I like Bush, too. But his record salary (before ever playing a down of NFL football) is something I don't think we'll miss. It's a little arrogant to me, and his entire mentality was that he would be the no. 1 pick at any price. I have to wonder what goes through somebody's head, and it'll be interesting to watch him develop on another bottom dweller like the Saints.

Good luck to him, tho'....hey, why not, he's in the NFC. idonno:

It made a lot of difference.. ESPN reports that Reggie met with the alleged agents and offered to pay a settlement to keep it from going public. The first thing Reggie should have done was to notify NFL Security that he was being shaken down.

Casserly did talk to Reggie and his lawyers, and they apparently didn't answer all his questions to his satisfaction. You don't commit $30 million on someone with all these issues hanging over his head.
