Walter Jones stays in Seattle

We have a Seattle fan on the board and I'm sure he's happy. Sorry but I can't remember his name! Nice signing for them.

That would be me....your friendly neighborhood Seahawks fan. I certainly didnt expect things to go this way. I was sure either Hass or Lucas would be signed first and Jones left to test the market. Shocking news indeed!! SUPPOSEDLY Hass will be a fairly easy sign and should not have to be franchised. If they ended up franchising Alexander...I honestly don't know if they could sign the rest of that big free agent lot. After the Jones deal we are looking at having $19mil left over with like 15 starter quality players left to sign :( UGH! There is speculation of Chad Brown being restructured or cut...and some other guys restructured like Wistrom and/or Simmons. Good day to be a Hawks fan though!

Sorry I couldn't remember your name but I did remember our nice conversations about your lovely stadium and the playoffs. I'm not too good with names so sorry about that. :BananaWav

Well this certainly helps us realize what we need to do for the draft. Can you give us more details on Chad Brown and why he may be cut? I was wondering if he would be a good fit with our team because he had a very successful time while with Pittsburgh and I figured he may be good for us even if he is in his latter part of his career.

I believe Chad is considered for cuts probably due to his salary number [although I hear they would try to restructure his contract first].

If Chad is cut, I would think he would be a decent fit in the defense.... if he doesn't produce, he is at least able to serve as a good tutor for Babin and Peek.

I'm sure they will ask him to restructure first. If the Seahawks sign all of the big 5 UFA's....well now 4 with Jones signed, I would think they will be forced to do something with Chad. He has one of the lesser cap friendly contracts for the Hawks, and his production has been down due to injury. I honestly don't think they will outright cut him, but Im fairly certain he would be one of the first approached to restructure...no telling how he will feel about that. Even though he has lost like a half a step, he was probably one of the Hawks hardest working defensive players last year, and when healthy he can produce close to the level he did back in Pitt or earlier with the Hawks. Basically, he is an injury gamble and fairly close to retirement. His body has really been breaking down a lot the last three seasons. The good news...like I said...when he plays, he is still a great player...the downside is he is still being paid like the every down stud he used to be, and seems like he is on the field half the time when you average in injuries.

If Shaun Alexander, Hass, Lucas, and Okeafor are all resigned, then I am fairly certain they will have to make a move with Chad based on the numbers game. I don't see Shaun staying so that makes things a bit more murky.

I can see the Hawks tagging Alexander, while they draft a prospect.

Although it might not be preferable for their pocketbooks, the only good thing the Hawks have going into next year is nothing, unless you count receivers who can't catch a cold in the middle of a cold epidemic with people sneezing on them from all over.

I don't see them gambling on a rookie or Maurice Morris to break out as a bigtime workhorse immediately.

Let's not forget that Ted Thompson is not there to make the good draft picks that Seahawks have been feasting off for the past few years too.

Now, if the Hawks don't retain Alexander, the question is....

How good will Alexander look in a Texans uniform? :)
